Annasfield - stop being so cheeky ;-)

Louisa - I think you've probably described it accurately but as I've said it's not really in competition with anything is it?

And I definitely think that passing by on LL is now far more pleasant than the boarded up skeleton that has been there for so long

I haven't been inside this particular White Stuff yet - but I am looking forward to visiting. They have a lovely shop in Padstein er... Padstow in Cornwall. The shopfront there doesn't impose and blends in beautifully, the staff are nice, and they have some lovely things. They say they are not producing their clothes in sweat shops and they are not too badly priced. I am delighted to see them on Lordship Lane.

I popped in with a friend just to visit and take a look around and ended up spending nearly ?100 on buying clothes.

Lots of people think its bland but I think its a great addition to the parade.I think it will actually bring in more customers even for the other retailers on that stretch selling clothes( celestial and moo too).

They said that the next shop next door will be a kiddies clothes or shoe shop and belongs to White Stuff so they will choose the best tenants for the area. Looks like they got a good deal from Parkhill , the freeholders.

Oh it looks amazing! I can't wait to get in there, thanks Mark.

Dear EDDW,

I just came back from a holiday in Cornwall and although there is a surf shop in the situation you describe - I didn't see a White Stuff. Where was it?

There is the O'Neill Surf Academy, Fifteen, a fast food outlet and two surf shops...

The only White Stuff I saw was in Padstow. Don't tell me I missed a shopping opportunity?

Yeah I like the odd scruffy old shop like the exterior of the battered old bookshop has loads of character.

Although I do prefer places that sell food to have a bit more of a scrubbed up sterile look.

White stuff looks a bit ?90s to me. Like I imagine the EDT looked just after its last paint job.

I don't see why a shop that's been there a long time can't still keep the exterior looking neat and clean.

When you get whole rows of shops which are all scruffy and faded it just makes the whole area look depressed.

I'm all for shops sticking around, along with a mix of new and different ones but think it's good when shop owners invest a bit of the profit in making their shop, and therefore the street, look attractive.

What gets me more than dirty shop fronts (don?t like dirty but do like scruffy there?s a difference) is dirty streets. Have you ever looked down at the flag stones on LL? They are disgustingly filthy! I don?t know how people can complain about ?gentrification? or whatever bollocks it is when our streets are paved with spit, shit and regurgitated gum from the gobs of degenerates.

Bugger all to do with the white stuff but just an early morning rant!

erm - It's a DIY store.

If I'm walking down the street and I see a smart frontage of a clothes shop I do probably think "that shop looks nice, I'll take a look inside and see if there's any clothes I might like"

If I'm walking down the street and I see a smart frontage on a DIY shop do I think "that shop looks nice, I wonder if the have a nice Bosch 700w cordless drill"?

Just not worth their while to look too flash. It's a great DIY shop and they are good value for money. If they started tarting it up I'd be wondering whether my drills would start costing a bit more... I'm happy with it as it is I'm afraid.

Plus it makes for a bit of diversity as mentioned plenty of times on this forum.

    • Hey fellow cat owners! Was hoping that you would consider putting collars with bells on your outside cats? I’ve wee fledglings in a nest and at the moment I’m defending them against an orange and white dude (I call him Trump) and his nemesis, a lovely Tuxedo cat (I call Elon)… they are quite the double act in my back garden!!!! It would give the wee ones a bit of a better chance if a bell could announce their approach. And as a feline owner myself, I know cats will be cats, but every little helps even the odds. many thanks.
