I can't function without a great coffee in the morning. I'm not talking about the coffee flavoured luke warm beverages at Cafe Nero. Or the slightly burned beans and thin overheated milk from some other lordship cafes making coffee by pushing buttons. I'm talking about a Barista, a true artisan, a coffee nut after my own heart that I can count on every morning on my way to the tube.

I'm new to the area and hunting for an inspiring morning coffee takeaway en-route to East Dulwich Tube? If you're not already rolling your eyes at my coffee snobbery but share the same morning addiction - I'd love your recommendation. My employer, fellow commuters - in fact anyone that has to speak to me before 10am will thank you.

I found the Coffee at La Scala very bitter and strong...

I had a Flat White which despite the name was dark and resembled T?rk kahvesi.. the thick stong Turkish Coffee.

The Cappuccino I had at The Small White Elephant in Choumert Road Peckham was very good..

Staff at both places were very friendly and welcoming..

To be honest, not sure you'll find what you're looking for on LL. Brickhouse is usually pretty reliable and French House (not sure what time it's open) can be good too.

As mentioned previously if you're willing to venture slightly further afield, Old Spike in Peckham and St David's in Forest Hill are both excellent.

As a black coffee drinker, it's hard to find a decent cup. Volcano is pretty rough stuff and needs some milk to make it palatable.

Jades IMHO is the best black coffee in Dulwich.

By comparison I'm quite happy with a 99p filter from Pret. Beats most Americanos into a cocked hat.

By far best solution is (all from Amazon)

1. Buy Andrew James programmable chrome filter coffee maker with integrated grinder (currently ?79.99)

2. Buy Spiller and Tait Rainforest special blend beans (or their other mixes, to taste, but Rainforest is special)

3. Get a vacuum flask (vast array available at less than ?15)

4. Enjoy - much less effort than waiting in line and having to put up with a characterless drink.

    • Hi! I recently came across the website of Dulwich Chess Club. I emailed them, but never received a response. The site (and the information on it) feels a bit dated... Does anyone know if this club is still active? And if yes, do you know when and were is the club currently meeting? Many thanks!!

    • Hello All, I'm starting a fun, online Philosophy class for kids - designed to spark curiosity, build critical thinking, and create space for big conversations! 🧠 What is it? Each week, we'll explore a fascinating question like: What makes something fair? Can animals think like humans? What is truth, and how do we know it? Using stories, games, and open discussion, kids will learn how to ask great questions, listen respectfully, and express their own ideas with confidence. No prior knowledge needed - just imagination! 💻 How it works: 1-hour sessions on Saturdays at 2pm.  Hosted online via Zoom (more information on this will be given if you choose to sign up).  Small group sizes to keep things personal and interactive. £15 per session (per child). 🎓 A bit about me: My name is Connor, and I'm a recent philosophy graduate. I'm passionate about helping kids discover the joy of thinking deeply and creatively. Philosophy isn't about getting the "right" answer - it's about learning to explore ideas in thoughtful and respectful ways. I believe every child is a philosopher at heart!  📩 Interested? Send me a direct message on here to sign up or ask any questions, or ask below! I'd love to hear from you. 🙂
