Style&Savoir
I can't function without a great coffee in the morning. I'm not talking about the coffee flavoured luke warm beverages at Cafe Nero. Or the slightly burned beans and thin overheated milk from some other lordship cafes making coffee by pushing buttons. I'm talking about a Barista, a true artisan, a coffee nut after my own heart that I can count on every morning on my way to the tube. I'm new to the area and hunting for an inspiring morning coffee takeaway en-route to East Dulwich Tube? If you're not already rolling your eyes at my coffee snobbery but share the same morning addiction - I'd love your recommendation. My employer, fellow commuters - in fact anyone that has to speak to me before 10am will thank you. Beulah
La Scala? Good enough for me and is fairly close to station Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/122621-best-coffee-in-east-dulwich/#findComment-1045952 Share on other sites

Style&Savoir
Ha! Tube, clearly I still think I'm in North London. Thanks everyone! d.b
For me the best is the coffee shop in Denmark Hill station, though may not be suitable location for your morning cuppa. Have you tried the van outside ED station? I don't generally want coffee on my commute but it smells good and seems to take itself seriously. Baggs
Hands down the best coffee from General Store on Bellenden road. Not open on Monday and Tuesday. Guest
La scala is the best around ED station. The coffee van is not really good. It's convenient thoughIf you're not limiting yourself to the commute to ED station, there are a number of good places. St David's in Forest Hill is my fav. alex_b
I think BrickHouse is the best near East Dulwich station. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/122621-best-coffee-in-east-dulwich/#findComment-1045998 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
I found the Coffee at La Scala very bitter and strong... I had a Flat White which despite the name was dark and resembled T?rk kahvesi.. the thick stong Turkish Coffee. The Cappuccino I had at The Small White Elephant in Choumert Road Peckham was very good.. Staff at both places were very friendly and welcoming.. njc97
If you're willing to walk to Peckham Rye, you could go via Old Spike Roast. Excellent coffee. heartblock
Brickhouse makes a good coffee and the bread is great too. The staff are either charming or rude depending on the phase of the moon though..... Jennys
What about buying a coffee machine and a reusable thermal mug. You can make coffee to your precise liking at home for a fraction of the price and take it with you. You will have to source the beans that are to your taste, of course. adsyb99
To be honest, not sure you'll find what you're looking for on LL. Brickhouse is usually pretty reliable and French House (not sure what time it's open) can be good too. As mentioned previously if you're willing to venture slightly further afield, Old Spike in Peckham and St David's in Forest Hill are both excellent. Robert Poste's Child
Don't worry, Alice, when the OP moves to phase 2 of the campaign and starts to trail 'an exciting new coffee house' in the parade close to ED station, you'll have another to choose from. Lowlander
As a black coffee drinker, it's hard to find a decent cup. Volcano is pretty rough stuff and needs some milk to make it palatable.Jades IMHO is the best black coffee in Dulwich.By comparison I'm quite happy with a 99p filter from Pret. Beats most Americanos into a cocked hat. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/122621-best-coffee-in-east-dulwich/#findComment-1046232 Share on other sites
NewWave
I find Brickhouse very milky and quite tasteless.StDavids in Forest Hill best by far. Dogkennelhillbilly
Getting further away from East Dulwich tube ;) but I find Jade's milk-added coffees far too milky. A soup bowl of warm milk with a shot of coffee added. jaywalker
By far best solution is (all from Amazon) 1. Buy Andrew James programmable chrome filter coffee maker with integrated grinder (currently ?79.99)2. Buy Spiller and Tait Rainforest special blend beans (or their other mixes, to taste, but Rainforest is special)3. Get a vacuum flask (vast array available at less than ?15)4. Enjoy - much less effort than waiting in line and having to put up with a characterless drink.
