Robert Poste's Child
Penguin68, I'm not going to argue with you. My interest is the man involved and how best to get him to accept help from the available services so he can live more safely and comfortably. JoeLeg
Do you genuinely believe threatening him with a Section 3 order will be productive? Blah Blah
Sometimes it is productive. It depends on the individual and the nature of the mental health issue. JoeLeg
I think anyone would have a hard time making a case - it requires two medical signatures, both attesting the individual is a danger to themselves/others.While I agree he?s in desperate need of help, I?m not so sure a Section 3 would be feasible, and I reckon he knows it, which is why I reckon it would be counter-productive.If he?s an alcoholic, he isn?t going to be helped until he wants to be helped. In the meantime if anyone wants to help him I think it?s admirable, but he?s the only one who can make the decision to get off booze.ETA - to be fair, an alcoholic can be sectioned if it can be shown that left alone they will drink themselves to death. Jules-and-Boo
the services know about him, know about the fire, know he doesn't want help - is their professional decision to leave him as is? TE44
There's certain questions it feels wrong to ask, about padraics personal care, but lilithangel has explained how bad things are, if there are any charities involved, these difficulties need to be addressed however difficult that may be. Carofen
Think everyone should stop making these ridiculous comments about getting him sectioned. He's lived on the streets for over 15 years by choice. Yes, I'm sure he has a drink problem and other mental health issues like many people do. He has been assessed and has capacity to make his own choice.you can't compare him with an anorexic teenager. Actually guidance issues in December states the vulnerable should not be harassed using anti-social behaviour powers.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42471062 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/172525-homeless-man-in-wheelchair-living-outside-harvester-pub/page/9/#findComment-1212101 Share on other sites
lilithangel
He hasn?t been around for a few days. My neighbor said she witnessed him slashing out at a child at the bus stop and the father hit him and the police came but do not know if this is true. I hope in the recent bad weather he decided to take the help of one of the charities and is in a shelter somewhere. I don?t think he?s a bad man, I just think life has dealt him a bad hand of cards and he hasn?t been able to recover. wodey
I have read this thread for a while and am very tentative about contributing but feel compelled to say....Please give Podrick the time of day if you see him. Sit down and have a chat, he will gladly tell you his story but you will also find he is a kind, friendly, funny, intelligent man who appreciates a chat. I saw him today for the first time since before Christmas and he's not doing as well, having lost everything again. There was an incident at Sainsburys today where he was accused of being 'completely pissed and aggressive' towards a member of staff. I did not see this but had been talking to him for a good half hour before going in to shop and although he had a drink he was very sound. He does get verbal when treated like a spectacle or a nuisance by onlookers at bus stops, shops etc or moved on by security or police and i don't blame him. I have spoken to the authorities who are continuing to help, hopefully something suitable will be accepted soon. In the meantime he appreciates the help and kindness many local people are showing him.
