This will sound ridiculous and like I have too much time on my hands but the chicken from Co-op is amazing, tastes so much better than anything I have tasted from other supermarkets or even the organic butcher - highly recommend and they quite often have good offers on making it pretty reasonable! Thought I would share :)

Perhaps we could also get a recipe suggestion chain going...

Think "really good" might be pushing it, I find the meat, especially, is poor quality and overpriced. On one occasion I bought meat that went off in the fridge prior to the use-by date so my experience is polar to what you guys n gals are suggesting. I wuld rather eat my socks than buy seafood from the co-op and have not tried the chicken but perhaps it is worth considering in an emergency. The fruit and veggies not only need improvement, they actually need stocking.

The local greengrocers and the meat from North Cross Road or Billy Rose are all fantastic and not really that different in price to any of the supermarkets, the co-op included.

Does anyone actually choose to shop in the co-op? wonders never cease.

Their Fairtrade Bananas, Chocolate etc are good value, the bread selection is getting better and two bottles of Spitfire for ?3 is okay with me.

Fruit & Veg - variable depending on when you go.

Pork, seafood/fish, definitely not.

@Foxy - try a 'Label Anglais' chicken from Sparkes on NorthX Rd market - they taste the way a chicken should.

I have had one of those from Borough Market.

They do not have much meat on them for ?14.00

Could not tell the diff. if blindfolded.

Fox..

I have to say that I have found the Co op (coop!) chicken 'truly irresitable' range to be quite horrid, and I never ate the breast I had cooked, and threw the 2nd breast away. Its William Rose for me - solely for the taste - not pretentions at using the shop like so many others.

Co op have their own farms and so do Morrisons. Waitrose have a farm in Herefordshire. It could be that these Supermarkets have greater control on their product quality.

Personally, I wouldn't dismiss Co-op food just because the brand isn't fashionable on this forum. All supermarket do some good food. The fun is discovering where they are.

Twat.

Your mind reading powers are truly sensational that you, and you alone, know which of William Rose's customers use his shop for their tasty produce and which use the shop because they are pretentious. Can you spot them in the queue just by looking at them? Do they have a uniform? Hemp bags perhaps?
