Sorry but it has been like that for years and is fairly obvious. I would probably understand if it was new but it isn't.

Then again we all make mistakes - I got caught in Lewisham around Christmas turning right when not allowed 9though the sign was partly obscured by roadworks.

I work right next to this junction - there are no entry signs on the right hand and left hand pavements and a big sign painted on the road saying buses only - they are not trying to disguise the fact that you are not allowed to drive along that section of road!!
part of the Highway Code (or was when I took my test) states that it shouldn't matter if you are in a familiar area or new town - a driver should be alert at all times. If signs change in your local area you can't defend yourself by saying "but that old sign was there for years"

yes, I got caught out there as well - and we have lived here for years, but had never had cause to drive down rye lane before.

there is a sign, but not huge - we were behind several buses at the lights (yes, should have been a clue), so didn't see sign or the lettering on the road. If the traffic seems to be driving along somewhere with no problems, one tends to (sheepishly) follow!!

Yeah well I am new to the area and new to driving in London so all this bus lane malarky is taking a bit of getting used to. Out of interest I was on the bus earlier and saw 2 cars ahead of me making the same mistake so maybe it's a bit of a blackspot!
sean og has a point, all you ever hear on this site is people whinging about being fined for this that and the other. im no saint but i dont get fined for dropping fag butts, going through bus lanes, parking on double yellow lines, disabled bays etc. know why, because i dont do it, and thats the crux of the equation dont do it you wont get fined for it, its that simple.

stb... glad we made up after the recent street fight

I'm not saying I don't drop litter, speed or drive the wrong way down one way streets. but I am saying if I did I wouldn't claim immunity if caught. and I wouldn't go on a public discussion board to state a claim for some imagined victimhood.

don't get me wrong... anyone is within their rights to do so. but why would they?

Driving past the spot today I noticed just how much signage there is along our urban roads. The majority of us, probably, drive on 50% auto pilot following car(s) ahead of us and setting speed accordingly. The working assumption becomes that it's OK to do what's being done by the vehicles in front & alongside us and that the road is the driver's highway and won't be disturbed.

There have, I understand, been experiments in Europe where all traffic control measures and signs were removed - with a resultant greater attention being paid by all road users - pedestrian, cyclist, motorist and public transport drivers and a consequent reduction in accident rates.

CAn anyone substantiate this?

i read about this not so long ago in the guardian, i believe it was a town either in holland or northern germany where the experiment was carried out and its pretty much as you say, people were forced to concentrate on their driving due to an absence of roadside furniture and it improved road use by all concerned.

Yes we shouldn't disregard the human rights of these people. Southwark traffic works dept have come up with this solution.

In addition there will be Wardens posted at 25m intervals ahead of the junction holding placards bearing 'DON"T ENTER THE BUS LANE PRETTY PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP'

    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.
    • Isn’t a five yearly electricity safety certificate one of the things the landlord must give for a legal tenancy?
    • Very sorry to hear this, but surely the landlord is responsible for fixing the electrics?  Surely they must be insured for things like this? I hope you get it all sorted out quickly.

This not-for-profit, worker-run, wheelchair accessible music and arts venue at 213-214 Edward Place SE8 5HD THE CRISIS: From Liv, Grace & Sonia, On Friday 31st October, there was a flash flood in Deptford, and we found ourselves with water pouring in through the lighting fixtures, damaging our electrics and sound system. We have been forced to close for one of the busiest weekends of the year, losing thousands of pounds in income, and are now having to fight our landlords for support with the leak. We are asking all our allies for support as we try and reignite the crowdfunder to reflect the new expensive work that needs to take place, and the gear we need to replace. Thank you in advance for your support so far, and your support going forward. If you have any ideas with getting media attention, or fundraising - please get in touch on [email protected] Even if you like myself have not previously visited this venue, supporting small not for profit venues are vital to the life blood of what 'commmunity' is all about.
