I like the bus 36 from Camberwell to Paddington - not the quickest maybe but easy with luggage etc

Not the quickest - I'll bet! Off-peak how long are we talking here for Camb to Padd? Can see the luggage point. What a good thing Crossrail will provide a new corridor link into central London from our absurdly sited and linked to main airport. Oh, wait a sec, it won't.

Gatwick - train from London Bridge

Luton - train from London Bridge

Heathrow - 68 from Camberwell to Holborn tube station and then Piccadilly Line. Or the 36 to Paddington

Stansted - Dont bother, the Gatwick Express is laughable

City Airport - get a taxi, you are probably flying on business so put it on exes.

ADS-Airports Direct Services is a local firm of Airport car specialists who carry up to 100 passengers each week from the SE22, SE21, SE23 AND SE15 areas.

We would be interested to find out if customers would be happy to sign up for our cab-sharing scheme to the various London airports as we intend doing a trial run this summer.

What we have found is that on certain occassions we have 5 or more cars picking up from the dulwich area and going to the same airport at more-or-less the same time of day, and this could be coordinated so as to pickup within 15min time slots and dropoff according to who has the earlier flight at the terminals...

Our fares typically start at around ?38 and we believe customers who travel reasonably light, or in not more than twos, could save up to ?14 as the average charge would be just ?24 for each collection!

Considering you are getting a 5 series BMW, an Audi A6/A8 or a Merc E class, i think it is a jolly good deal!

I am planning a trip and I can get flights from Luton or Stanstead, but wanted to work out which one was easiest.

Guessing it might be Luton via Herne Hill?

Depending on the time of day - Luton from Denmark Hill would be quickest.

Otherwise, Gatwick and City are far easier to get to than Luton or Stansted.

You can get the overground to Clapham and then the train to Gatwick approx. ?10. It is pretty stress free. Also, if it is early morning you can get a taxi for ?40 to Gatwick which can make it cheaper depending how many of you there are

Luton may be quick to get to but it is a soul destroying experience flying from there. The station is not actually at the airport, you have to get a bus transfer, the queues for security are very long once you are through to departures there is not much in the way of seating and when you get to the gate there are no seats at all.

I have managed to get through to the departure lounge at Gatwick within an hour of leaving my house before now so would choose Gatwick every time!

Randomly, Google maps sometimes suggests for Heathrow to go via Clapham Junction on the Overground, and then Feltham and a bus. Has anyone ever done this?

I'd probably do train to Victoria - District to Hammersmith, Piccadilly line. Cheap, but bring a book!

Going up to Paddington may not save too much time.

I am the manager for ADS transport, and we are looking to start a car pooling service that can slash fares from Dulwich area to all the London airports. Although we tried to generate interest a couple of years back, it didn't quite get the attention it deserved.

I think it is a good idea for both the drivers and the customers as the drivers would earn a little more, but most importantly, the passengers would be saving up to 40% of a typical cab journey of say, ?40 to Heathrow and ?42 to Gatwick. Moreover, typical journey times wouldn't exceed 70min to either airport, and considering it is a door to door service, I think very good value for money!

I don't understand your point about journey times. Are journey times likely to be different by using car pooling?

On a daily basis we transport people from SE22, SE23,SE21, SE24, SE15 and similar areas. On occasion, we have had 3 cars taking people eg Barry Rd SE22 at 5am to Heathrow, 2 cars picking up at Lordship Lane also to Heathrow and say, another 2 cars picking up at 5.15am from Peckham Rye also to Heathrow,

My point is with good organisation, one could arrange these pickups in such a way that one car could take 2 or even 3 pickups if the times were staggered like 4.55am, then 5am then 0505am since the pickups are less than a mile apart!

Obviously, things like terminal and number of passengers would have to be considered, but it only takes a little to arrange such things!

Yes, I used that route a lot when working at Heathrow as it's quick and cheap. The bus can be quite busy at rush hour but picks up right outside Feltham station and drops you in Heathrow T1-3 at street level, so no flaffing up the escalators from the tube/train
