david_carnell
BigPhil... do you have restrictions on what beers you can stock or are you well and truely a "free house" i.e free of tie too?If so, could I recommend the Pilgrim Brewery run by Dave Roberts in Reigate, Surrey. He's a top bloke with a great range of beers from his award-winning micro-brewery. He's an old acquintance so I always give him a plug. His beers really are ace though. Cheers, and I'll check out the all new Prince Albert when you're up and running. BigPhil
Hi DavidYes we are a true free house. We are actively looking for local ( kent , surrey, sussex ) small breweries to source our ales from.as for lagers we are thinking paulaner , okachim , becks vier , and my Girlfriend wants the strawberry beer Frulli in as well, if only for her and her mates. all to be confirmed when we take the place in 2 weeks , after a small clean up and refurb ( nothing too extreme) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5691-favourite-real-ales-or-lagers/page/2/#findComment-182861 Share on other sites

The former as a result of too many bland 'laaarger' pints and the latter as a result of too many carnival weekends where warm Stripe from a street vendor and a skunk spliff has sent me home from the party early. Keef
Big Phil, please rethink the Becks Vier thing. Never understood why Becks was popular, it's horrid. Funnily enough I had a Courage Best for the first time in decades a couple of weeks ago and it wasvery good. The key is often how well it's kept. Torben Pieknik
For lager is has to be Keo from Cyprus. It is delicious, but tastes better drunk sitting in the sun. Bitter - Wobbly Bob brewed by Pheonix, it is pretty lethal though. Jah Lush
Good call on the Keo TP. I always used to drink that when I was in The Vineyard at the bottom of Camberwell Grove but I haven't been there for a few years now. Jah Lush
No BBW I haven't been barred just haven't been down that neck of the woods in ages especially since they ruined a perfectly good pub (Grove House Tavern) and turned it into whatever the hell it's calling itself now. Torben Pieknik
Jah - they sell it at Bossman wines. SeanMacGabhann
Now that Henieken is no longer the 4.x % swill it was a few years ago, it's a decent pint(I'm a fizzy pop man. I'm sorry. I wish I liked ale... but I don't)As Keef said Becks is vile - but as a 4% drinking lager it's preferable to the competition. Very few draught lagers get me excited... poor as the service is, the M&B pubs (Plough, Dog, Phoenix etc) have the best selection and usually very well keptAs a sidenote, BigPhil is an example to any newcomer (business related or not) in how to join a forum. The Albert is not the easiest pub for me to get to but his whole demeanor makes certain that I will be visiting in the coming weeks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5691-favourite-real-ales-or-lagers/page/2/#findComment-183756 Share on other sites

bigbadwolf
Apart from John Smiths I think that Carlsberg is just pointless. 3.7% isn't enough. I remember drinking 15 tin of this 'beer' and it didn't even get me pissed (well perhaps a bit) and the next morning my farts were soooo powerful I could feel them blowing against my ankles.
