Let's pedestrianise Lordship Lane

Recommended Posts

But where would all the traffic go? Barry Road, perhaps, but I doubt it has the capacity to cope with so much extra traffic - especially once you put all the bus routes along there too. So then people would probably head off down (more) residential streets. I'm not at all sure the traffic chaos would ever bed down. Too much hassle for a very questionable benefit, I reckon.

editing fro speeling :/

'Desireable solution' to what?

I don't think this would be a good idea.. LL is a major artery for the area, and the reason why so many people come here to eat, drink and shop in the first place. Where would all the cars and buses divert via?

I would support pedestrianisation of Northcross road at the weekends and expand this as a shopping area.

I agree that it doesn't seem feasible to totally pedestrianise - i think all that is needed is one more pedestrian crossing - currently it is a nightmare to cross such a busy road especially given it's on a bit of a bend so you can't see cars and buses coming at you from all angles. . Ideal place would be just near the the Bishop/ Black Cherry bars in my opinion......Or at least an 'island' - the amount of times i've stood in the middle of the road stranded!

so it appears that most people would support pedestrianisation of Northcross Road, at weekends at least. there would need to be residents' access. it would be interesting to hear what the shopkeepers think. i can see the boutiques going for it but there's also, for example, a huge joiner's yard there who might not be so pleased

returning to lordship lane, how about no cars at weekends - only buses ???

Lordship Lane - where would you suggest the No Entry points are nofanofcars? Where would the diverted traffic go? I think it's a brillaint idea although I need persuading that it would work.

However with Northcross Road - I'd suggest blocking from Lordship Lane to outside the Blue Mountain so that traffic could still travel from Lacon road across to Ulverscroft Road.

bit of a daft idea really thinking of pedestrianising lsl, where would the traffic go down barry road or through the village,as for trying to get buses up and down minor roads never mind artics total no go,the amount of times i have wasted hugh tracts of my life sitting on a 37 in melbourne grove alone suggests it should never happen.

I?m all for it. The traffic can be diverted through the village. Knock down a few houses and put a flyover over the golf course.

It will be great I won?t be woken up by police cars at 4 in the morning anymore. Or have to listen to the calming sound of busses as I drift off to sleep.

Good idea. Pedestrianise from Goose Green to and including Northcross Road. Send the traffic along Peckham Rye and Barry Road.

Maybe allow a single lane of bus traffic and let traffic use the road between 7pm and 7am so that lorries can get in and out.

Agreed?

What about a name for the new pedestrianised area? I like Top Town but Lordship Place is obvious I suppose...

How long after until you get a Franky and Benny's New York Italian Diner, a multiplex cinema and a bowling alley?

It's rather more than a "few doors" to the Iceland one and the fact 2 minor roads join LL close to Somerfield makes crossing the road here especially hazardous, which is why a pedestrian or Pelican crossing is long overdue. But I don't see why there cannot be one close to the Bishop too (even though there's one by the Goose Green roundabout), or indeed another across East Dulwich Grove where it meeets LL, as crossing EDG here can also be a bit problematic.

pedestrianise LL - nope. Following on from the note about buses on melbourne, it would result in drivers speeding round backroads making these exceedingly dangerous. I used to live on a 'rat run' and P13 route and it was quite scary what people would do when they saw a clear stretch of road on a completely residential street (that includes the P13 drivers) A few more crossings yes, but please be practical.

It doesn't make any sense to pedestrianise LL. Traffic is simply diverted elsewhere in greater concentration.

I'd be in favour of the Northcross Road option up to Blue Mountain.

The crossing at Somerfields is a good idea as that stretch is very wide and hard to see as it is on a bend with lots of parked cars.

    • The problem with delivery people nowadays is that they are on such a restrictive schedule that they literally have to just try to deliver and run, otherwise they are penalised. I understand the frustration though.   And good luck making any kind of complaint to Evri. I once sold a laptop on ebay, took it to the Evri pick-up, where it was processed and it then went 'missing' between their pick-up place and the hub. Went through a long, long process where they offered me a desultory amount in compensation and I had to take them to small claims court before they came up with a fair offer the day before we were due to be in court. Long story short, Evri are shite.   Go to look at this forum for the number of people who have issues: https://nationalconsumerservice.co.uk/forum/183-postal-and-delivery-services/
    • I haven't had a rude EVRI delivery but last week I had an unexpected delivery at 10.42 pm. He didn't ring the bell or knock on the door (or rattle the letter flap) but just took a photo and put the box down.  If it hadnt been for the door camera giving us a beep we would never have known there was a parcel ready to sit there all night.
    • Sorry if I’m being slow but there’s no point in having a gate then is there?  Would have thought it was basic manners to respect someone’s property
    • I didn't say wedge it "slightly" open. I meant to wedge it fully open.
