unfortunately there has been a fatality. A car has over turned outside the vale pub. my thoughts go out to those involved. There are police along the corden line. Which runs right up to sainsbury turn off. You can not cross the road until there. i dont know what time is happened i live close by and never heard sirens.

Hi,


I believe that you cannot access the station and trains are not stopping at ED. To me it seems a little strange that they close off the road from L/L through to Sainsbury's and intermediate roads as well. It would look like the RTA is only part of the story.

Are you sure? It looked to me like the gates were open when I walked past. However, I admit that I didn't check carefully so I could well be wrong

Quorn Road was the only road open and that was for back street traffic going up Dog Kennel Hill... That was earlier so not sure what is going on, did make enquiries with police to see what the situation was and they could'nt tell me much, just that Quorn Road was open...

I was walking towards sainsburys on dog kennel hill this morning about 5.50 when a green convertible golf came down the hill at around 70mph.

As the car got the costcutter opposite the dominos pizza it seemed to hit the traffic island and the drivers side front wheel collapsed.

The car carried on past me at speed even the it was scraping along the floor and hit a post opposite the vale pub, that's when the car flipped and landed on it's roof.

I ran to the car and helped a guy out who had cuts to his head.

I went to the other side of the car to help the driver but it seems he must have died on impact.

I don't know what happened to the guy who survived, a woman who came out of the vale pub was seeing to him.

The police took my details then I had to leave to go to work.

No, I couldn't see any news reports either, but I think a lot of things don't get into the news unless they want witnesses. Allgoodh was there and saw everything, although it was so early in the morning. I think it must have been very hard for Allgoodh, being 'first on the scene' but he or she seems to have known the best thing to do. And went to work afterwards - I would have been traumatised and would have had to go back home! So I am very impressed by Allgoodh, and I am very sorry for those involved in the accident, and their families/friends.

      This concerns me as it essentially disregards the significant number of people who do experience a high level of disruption because of the event.  While it's great that you personally are not inconvenienced, this is absolutely not the case for a great many residents many of whom are elderly or who do not have private gardens and rely on the park.   Great that you have a PHD in ecology but might also be worth reading the report into the environmental impact of Gala which paints a rather different story to yours. This comes round every year with a request to extend. This seems to me to be a distraction to steer everyone away from the main event. However, Southwark Council and Councillor Catherine Rose in particular must bear responsibility for what is effectively privatisation of our community space.  I requested data on the results of the last consultations and had to use a subject access request to get it.  In 2024 the council received 111 responses of which 108 were negative. The event went ahead. Last year they received 136 of which 82 were negative and 34 said only with major changes (which did not happen).   The impact of the event on the community and the enviroment is well-documented.  The council has so far refused to supply data on the demographics of the attendees but it doesn't take much to work out that this is largely single under 30s from out of borough judging by the steady stream of people from the station.   Please do take time to protest and also to email Events as we try to hold the council accountable for their disregard of the public consultation results.       The permission covers two properties, the retail unit and a first floor flat, so it is in part already a residential building. There appears nothing in the documents to suggest change of use, which I don't think would be classed as 'minor' which this is.
