Keef
Oh Great. They'll probably tear out all the beautiful wood work as well as the soul from the place.
ratty
Interesting. Was a great pub in the 90s but has gone to shit recently!
monica
Lol could not agree more, use to love that pub. Met my hubby in that pub. Anyway Scott Collins from the Bishop has taken it over, good on him, he is a good landlord and a lovely guy.

DrDom
The wishing well was great before everywhere went 'gastro'. When everywhere else went gastro all the idiots from a five mile radius flocked there.
RoosterMcLooster
If you combine Montpellier's wine, Hooper's beer, the Gowlett's straightforward food offering and not lose too much of the wooden charm then it will be a great pub
????
I watched the Euro 1996 semi-final v Germany in there which somewhat tarnished the place for me
Peckhamgatecrasher
I watched the FA Cup 2004 semi-final v Sunderland in there which somewhat enshrines the place for me.

????
Well, however heartbreaking it was/is, I prefer my Cup Finals to be a competitive match with some excitement ;-)
ratty
Used to be a great football pub. Keef
I remember watching a great fight between Eubank & Thompson (the first one) in there, that was a good night. If you combine Montpellier's wine, Hooper's beer, the Gowlett's straightforward food offering and not lose too much of the wooden charm then it will be a great pubNot been to the Montpellier, but other than that, I'd agree with that.I have absolutely no beef with any of the people involved, but just really hope it doesn't become another Bishop (lots of people disagree with me, but I just can't make myself like the place!)! Doubt it will, as it's not on such a busy road.
david_carnell
AS long as they get rid of the giant plasma screen all will be well.Trying to have a pint with a 6ft version of Corrie in the corner is not enjoyable. The back room had a pool table which would be nice to keep and it's a big space. The Bishop's food would, whilst not setting the world alight, be a 100% improvement on the god awful sandwiches we got given on the forum's outing to the Wishing Well last year. It's my local so I'll be intrigued as to how it goes. The rooms above are still letting so not sure how that'll work in the future.
RoosterMcLooster
According to my Peckham and Nunhead history book they had strippers or topless bar-ladies in the 70s.
georgia
To be fair the 'god awful' sandwiches were free and they weren't really obliged to provide us with anything. But I like the Bishop and the food is good so good luck to them
