Who cycles to work from East Dulwich?
boosboss replied to willma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What's the shower time got to do with the journey time? Showering still takes the same amount of time whichever end of the journey it's at. Lucky enough to have showers, locker room, drying room and a safe bike store at work. I do the Peckham/Surrey Canal/ Burgess Pk (Daylight)(OKR- NKR in the dark)/ Back rd (rt 23) coming out at New Kent Rd and finishing at Elephant. Easy and quick :) -

Where are we missing? We had a banner at Goose Green roundabout, Peckham Rye/East Dulwich Rd Junction and Barry Road/Peckham Rye Junction. Posters were displayed in Peckham Rye Park, Dulwich Park and in shops on Lordship Lane, Forest Hill Rd, Nunhead Lane, Rye Lane, North Cross Rd and East Dulwich Rd. It was also listed on Southwark Councils website and in SE22/23 magazine. If we're not obvious enough, we'd really like to know where and how we could do better (given cost constraints :) ) Noted and may take you up on that offer :) Thank you! I'll pass your sentiments on to the fete organising committee Thank you for all the suggestions and comments. We will be looking into and considering each of them more closely early next year. -

What would you like to see the stalls selling? What other food sales would you like? Definitely more cake next year. I'll start badgering all you cake-bakers earlier next time Live Music - Have emailed Sue-Gooseisout and was impressed with the short acoustic treat we had with the accordian and fiddle on saturday, will try to extend that side. We underestimated the skill of the local residents! We ran out of coconuts about 4pm, (3 large bags of them) Taking note of the generous local businesses for the Tombola. We decided to provide the beer/pimms/wine ourselves this year as the profit generated is so great. Hopefully you weren't too dissappointed. We had originally planned it for the last weekend of Aug, which was beautiful. Will look at earlier dates next year. PeckhamRose & Standswithfist , will respond later. Must do some work now :) Thanks, keep the comments coming. -

Yes but the gov't buildings are either open to the public or workplaces, in which smoking is banned regardless of ownership. So should smoking bans therefore be banned in all private dwellings too?
-
Rico - What makes you anymore of a council property landlord than someone living in one and paying the same taxes you do and what gives you any more right to want a ban in those properties than they have to smoke in them? I don't understand why this is even an issue for you, haven't you something else more important to worry about?
-
I've got the answer! Limit the ownership of property to one per person/family. Compulsory purchase all the private rental properties at land value only from the greedy private landlords. Alter the status of the tenants from tenants to owners, converting rents into mortgage payments, thus driving down the cost of home ownership so that lower income families and individuals can own their own home. Pensioners would be able to pay a mortgage from their pensions as opposed to paying rent. If everyone owns their own home, they wouldn't be smoking a home that is socially owned. Any property that is left to someone via a will should be returned to the housing market and sold at the market rate, obviously being bought by someone that doesn't already own their own home. Allow smoking in council run social housing and don't clean them after the tenants have left, thus encouraging the tenants to move on as soon as possible by providing substandard conditions and as such freeing up the property for the next poor (circumstance not monetary) individual. Sorted! And if you think this idea is barmy, reread the original post :)

Does anyone travel to Paddington ...

It is 19 mins from E&C to Paddington (as long as nothing goes wrong!). Get on the middle of the train and you'll be near to the exit at Paddington (although the front carraige is likely to be less crowded). I do this journey many times during my working day ;-) 63 or 363 to Elephant is quick too and the stop is just over the road from the Bakerloo entrance. -

dog owners/walkers in dulwich - doggy poo

Yes it's fine to tell a dog owner that their dog has crapped. It may just be a case of the owner being distracted (Not excusing it!). If someone told me mine had crapped, I'd appreciate it more than a fine from a lurking warden. My usual approach to non-pooper-scoopers is to offer them a bag to pick up with (fortunately most of my pockets are stuffed with poobags lol). Obviously if the dog owner gets aggressive, you need to assess the situation and walk away if your safety is at risk. If you know who the person is but are nervous about approaching them, report it to the council to deal with. :) -
Great thread :)) I'm one of the 'far too self obsessed to even consider giving it all up for kids', but I really do enjoy the benefits of having nieces and nephews. I get to see their faces light up when opening gifts at Christmas/Birthdays, listening to their laughter, singing and other happy stuff etc while still having the option of making my excuses and leaving when the grizzles, tantrums and bawling kicks in. I'm always the 'Good Guy' too. I don't have to be the one disciplining them, putting them to bed against their will, making them leave the playpark etc. It's great! My nephew wrote an essay at school about who inspires him. He wrote about me! I'm always 'Good ole Uncle Joe' I'm leaving all the real hard work to my siblings, there's six of them so I've got plenty of current and potential good times with kids ahead. Do I want my own? Nah! Why spoil things? :)
