Great lyrics - "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die...."
Keef replied to Mick Mac's topic in The Lounge
Mrs Potter's Lullaby - Counting Crows. I think some of these lines are beautiful. Well I woke in mid-afternoon cause that's when it all hurts the most I dream I never know anyone at the party and I'm always the host If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts You can never escape, you can only move south down the coast well, I am an idiot walking a tightrope of fortune and fame I am an acrobat swinging trapezes through circles of flame If you've never stared off in the distance, then your life is a shame and though I'll never forget your face, sometimes i can't remember my name Hey Mrs. Potter don't cry Hey Mrs. Potter I know why but Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me Well, there's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing And the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings And there is always one last light to turn out and one last bell to ring And the last one out of the circus has to lock up everything Or the elephants will get out and forget to remember what you said And the ghosts of the tilt-a-whirl will linger inside your head And the ferris wheel junkies will spin there forever instead When I see you a blanket of stars covers me in my bed Hey Mrs. Potter don't go Hey Mrs. Potter I don't know but Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me All the blue light reflections that color my mind when I sleep And the lovesick rejections that accompany the company I keep All the razor perceptions that cut just a little too deep Hey I can bleed as well as anyone, but I need someone to help me sleep So I throw my hand into the air and it swims in the beams It's just a brief interruption of the swirling dust sparkle jet stream Well, I know I don't know you and you're probably not what you seem But I'd sure like to find out So why don't you climb down off that movie screen Hey Mrs. Potter don't turn Hey Mrs. Potter I burn for you Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me When the last king of Hollywood shatters his glass on the floor and orders another Well, I wonder what he did that for That's when I know that I have to get out cause I have been there before So I gave up my seat at the bar and I head for the door We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars We stand up in the palace like it's the last of the great pioneer town bars We shout out these songs against the clang of electric guitars You can see a million miles tonight But you can't get very far Oh, you can see a million miles tonight But you can't get very far -
What everybody else has said. It is a very weird situation, and I don't know how one says goodbye to someone like this, but I'd agree that you'll always wish you'd done it if you don't try.

Best wishes to you, and have fun!

You'll find a few on this very old thread. -
It's been up for sale for a good 5 years. There have been some interested parties, but nothing has ever come of it. I could be wrong, but I think Tricia had a 10 year lease on it, in which case, that is probably coming to an end in the next year or so. She definitely had it when I came back south from Liverpool in 2001.

Hmmm, I am beyond rubbish, but this could be the opportunity to get a bit fitter, that I so need! Just so long as there is a pint afterwards!

Ha ha, sorry mate, but I really don't think that is why you spelt Sean Shaun. -
In my opinion, CBT is just a sticking plaster, doesn't really get to the route of a problem, just helps to deal with it. There is definitely a place for it, but I think there is too much of a trend towards it as a cure all at the moment. Regarding self harm, my ex from when I was younger (18 - 23) was a big cutter of arms and legs. She'd tell me it was a release, a "silent scream" if you will. There was nothing suicidal about it, and it wasn't a "cry for help" as such (there were times when it was, and it got to the point where she'd use it to blackmail me emotionally, but mostly not). Basically, it was something she felt she had control of, when, in her eyes, everything else was out of her control. Fortunately, after me, she got a bloke who was a bit more firm with her, and she sorted it out. Looking back, I think I may have been killing her with kindness, and should have taken a firmer stance, but that isn't really me.

Well to be fair, the question... Was answered by the second post, so the thread needed a new direction ;-)

C-section recovery & Kings labour wards
Keef replied to Countjc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just as a response to anything negative you've heard about Kings, my wife had to spend a week in Tommy's after our daughter was born, and the wards there, although perhaps a bit shinier, and with a better view, were just the same. At the end of the day, staying in hospital is a bit naff, wherever it is, and they are all equally busy. But you'll have a lovely new baby to keep you more than busy, and make you smile. Best of luck, and enjoy your baby. -

I'm enjoying this new m7post caricature. It's like Maurice, meets dulwichmum, meets BARA. -
I'm genuinely shocked at you Sean. A till with a screen is a far cry from the internet, and why should anyone just automatically know what a PM is?
-
Yeah, because being able to use an internet forum is a vital part of working in a pub. What a silly comment.

Our daughter did a lot of BLW, although admittedly, we have let it slip a bit, as it seemed harder work than mush, and sometimes you just can't be arsed. She would pile loads in, and store it in her cheeks like a hamster. I think it is normal. Another problem is that she just throws a lot of it around, but I think that playing with the food is part of it, as it's meant to help with fine motor skills, and she is good at picking little things up with thumb and forefinger.
-
I think I know what you're saying there, and I know what you mean... Either that, or I totally don't know what you're saying.
-
Exactly! I like a cider if I'm feeling a bit hungover when I arrive at the pub. Nice easy pint to start with. Have to move on after a couple though, as it's a bit acidic.

Fair play, but please don't ever acquire the CPT! ;-)

Dulwich Constitutional Club. Bit old school, but a nice place.

Times article - 'is motherhood a form of oppression?'
Keef replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Having said that, I still don't think Mrs Keef had any, or no more than a couple during the whole pregnancy, because had something gone wrong, she would have blamed herself. When we lost a baby, the hospital said to us, "even if you've been drinking and taken drugs (which she hadn't!), that is NOT why this has happened". ClareC, your comment about the guilt reminds me very much of Mrs Keef, she said she's never felt so guilty about EVERYTHING in her life! I remember before the baby came along we were saying "well once she's 6 months, we'll be going out, and both having a few drinks"... Ha, what a load of nonsense that was! -

A doctor friend told us that this advise is given because they expect people to break the rules. If they say "you're alright having 2 or 3 a week", they think people will think they can push that and have 5 or 6. So, in saying you can have none, they think people will have a couple. Like I say, it's only what a friend told us, but it seems to make sense. -
Not saying anything negative about them, just decided they weren't for us. Thought NHS classes at Tommy's were great for us. Plus, whilst we could have afforded it, we felt a bit like people were priced out, and that made Mrs Keef less inclined to give them our money. Just a personal thing.
