This letter was posted on last Friday's Popbitch. It made me laugh but I didn't believe it.

Top 'My Wife's Bored' shops in East Dulwich
giggirl replied to honk's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh dear, I've ventured away from The Lounge, which is all very cars v. dresses today. And now this? What's next? I dare say the Joke thread will have a load of "take my wife" jokes before close of business. -

Why are all you boys posting on the frock thread? Are you not taking this seriously? And, *Bob*, you need to know that frocks are WAY too important to only have one favourite. Here's a selection off the top of my head and I've not even begun to think about it. If I was at home and opened my wardrobe doors then the memories would come flooding out. In no particular order: A dark blue Tom Ford dress with a long train that I wore to my friends' civil partnership ceremony in Brighton. The sleeves and the d?collet? are made from tulle. I got to go to a wedding in a dress with a train and I was like a little girl at the candy store. Except the train was nearly destroyed by Brighton pier when I was too happy to notice. My First Holy Communion dress (obviously white with a white veil in case anyone doesn?t know what a Communion dress looks like). I wasn?t blessed with the happiest childhood so that dress is a happy memory in a sea of not so happy memories. A Versace couture dress that was part of the same collection as the infamous Hurley dress. It?s a very simple design. Long, black, strapless, with one zip up the front (for the full length of the dress) and a similar one up the back. It?s very simple and completely stunning. It?s so well made that it holds you in everywhere and makes you stand upright, a bit like a wedding dress. My very first evening gown which was green and gold cotton and came with its own wrap. I wore it to death and was heartbroken when it fell past repair. A dress I coveted for years which belonged to a schoolfriend. It was yellow and purple (this was the 70s). Years later I figured out that it was a high street copy of an Ossie Clark. I would love to own an Ossie Clark dress. Thinking about dresses I have coveted, top of the list must be Audrey Hepburn?s Breakfast at Tiffany?s gown. Swoon. I have a few Alice Temperley dresses and I love wearing them - they always put me in a good mood because they?re mostly bright. My favourite is the ?Orchid? dress from about four years ago. It?s basically a bright pink dress with a big black orchid on it. I just can?t be miserable when I?m wearing that dress. The pink flowery tea dress I bought for my Godchild last year from Soup Dragon. She literally danced when she saw it. We were in Blue Mountain and she put it on there and then and had to be coaxed out of it at bedtime. There?s a girl after my own heart. And to think, all you boys have is your boring old cars. My heart breaks for you, it really does.

I went to bed at 4am but I'm bright and bouncy this morning thanks to a strong caffeine hit (which is now wearing off). I'm going bowling tonight at that place in Bloomsbury. I am actually expected to bowl, which is very inconvenient as it plays hell with a French manicure and they make you wear really ugly shoes. I may need a little energy boost before then. I'm loving the adorable little fellow in the photograph.

My copy of Rum Sodomy And The Lash has gone walkabout, which is very vexing. Still no nearer answering the question, which is also vexing. What about James Connolly? He was Scottish. I'm thrown by the whole Englishman thing.

To be truthful I'm not beautiful when I'm angry. I get shrill because I forget to breathe. More Sybil Fawlty than Betty Blue.

The fabulous Polly Harvey is playing Shepherds Bush Empire in April. Go. http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_london&query=detail&event=308150 I really recommend LEVEL ONE, not standing downstairs unless you're very tall, and I'm not. You get a better view. Go Polly... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jkU5-PJY6B8

Don't worry about losing tickets. If you can't find them just ring TicketBastard two days before the event and tell them that your tickets haven't turned up and that it's pretty shoddy service and that you're not a happy camper and it's just not good enough. They'll put a duplicate set of tickets on the door for you. NEVER admit to having lost them or they'll just tell you to go take a jump. Doesn't work with tickets that you've had to sign for though. I would really like to see The Faces too. I was lucky enough to see Ronnie Lane MANY years ago at the Albert Hall with Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton and all sorts of really top people. I didn't know who he was at the time - wish I could put the clock back.

Any news on The Faces gigs? I'd go to that.

A large and growing collection of Blahniks, Louboutins, Choos and Birkins. That's shoes and handbags to the uninitiated. Edited because I failed the genuis test - sorry - that's not really a secret is it. My secret vice - are you mad; that's something I can't even touch on with my closest pals after several cocktails, let alone on an open forum!

You put a tear in my eye Hoochie. I can barely remember the time when something was this special for me and, to be honest, I'm a little envious. Very special gigs come along so infrequently. I guess you've waited 35 years for your big nights out and that takes some beating. Also, I am very very very spoilt and I won't get out of bed unless I get the best seats.

I just found this comment on Popbitch... The most powerful politician in the world is black. The best golfer in the world is black. The fastest racing driver in the world is black... Michael Jackson must be kicking himself.

Channel 4: Dispatches - The true cost of cheap food
giggirl replied to david_carnell's topic in The Lounge
I don't believe that supermarkets give a toss about consumers. Really. So long as they tread on just the right side of legal and so long as they don't get any bad publicity, they're fine with whatever crap they have on their shelves. They're all competing on price at the moment so I fear that getting them to eat a whole 0.7p per sausage worth of profits is a non starter. Sounds like an interesting programme though and I hope the message snowballs.
