  1. Gosh, can't believe this thread almost, very nearly, fell out of the top ten. What were you all thinking, allowing that to happen?
  2. BoosBoss, Thank you so much for posting that; I don't own a TV, had never seen it before, and it made me smile from beginning to end. I think it is actually based on the fantasy dance scene from The Fisher King. This is a favourite film of mine, its main themes being redemption, second chances and love. In the dance scene, a swarm of New York commuters stop and waltz around Grand Central Station for two minutes. Grand Central Station is a magnificently beautiful building and whenever I'm in New York I make a point of going up to the bar, nursing a martini for a half hour or so, watching the commuters down below and imagining them waltzing. Magic. Take a look at the clip or, even better, rent the movie. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cn9ifIhCIhg TLS - I also remember the Nimble ad. That's a real old one. This is an oldie too. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6mOEU87SBTU
  3. What happens if a woman takes it?
  4. Bridie Gallagher, Slim Whitman and Josef Locke. You may need to google them but I wouldn't rush.
  5. indiepanda Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sounds about as romantic as having a boyfriend > taking texts from their ex while you are cuddled > up in bed together after sex > > Not I know any woman lame enough to put up with > that kind of behaviour. Honest guv...(*blushes*) My jaw dropped. That's shocking. You need to have a word.
  6. I've examined my conscience and, like HB, I've come up wanting. I'm glad that you're OK and that, by some miracle, you found someone to take care of you. But I'm also very ashamed because I would have looked the other way. There's a lesson here.
  7. I bank with First Direct. If you sign up with them for their annual holiday insurance package (it's more than holiday insurance but I can't remember what the package is offhand) then you don't get charged for using ATMs when abroad. I don't feel happy arriving in a country without cash. If I haven't got cab fare then I'm not a happy camper. The last time I went somewhere without cash was a trip I made to Hong Kong last April - the ATMs at the airport rejected my card for some reason. I had been lax about getting currency because I was meeting a friend at the airport. But still, I wasn't happy about not having some folding stuff of my own. It's not a good idea to rely on ATMs.
  8. The only film I can think of with a coffin and women in black at sea is "Don't Look Now". But the opening scene in that was of a little girl running and drowning. Can't you give us a clue or something?
  9. I've stumbled into this thread by mistake. I thought it was about fashion. Now I'm disappointed. On the other hand, since I'm here I will say that it's a bit hypocritical when you fly about a fair bit to get uppity about expanding airports. When I was little, hardly anyone ever left the country, now everyone expects to holiday in far flung places. Do we actually need a third one though? Are the other two failing to satisfy?
  10. Witnessed earlier today - a couple intensely snogging in the next booth at dinner. "Get a room" I was thinking, until I noticed that she was texting behind his back. Now I know we women are born multi-taskers but that's taking it too far. There are some things that need your full attention. I felt realy bad for him. He was a hottie too.
  11. TLS - calm down - you're hardly setting a good example of how to start each day with a positive outlook. Behave. Play nicely with the other forumites.
  12. Meanie
  13. I'm sorry. You're doing the right thing by staying at home. Cure yourself and don't pass it on.
  14. Keef, Here's some mindless trivia. Did you know that when Nirvana wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit, they actually set out to emulate a The Pixies? They sat down to write a Pixies song. Years ago I read that someone once said to Cobain that "..... (something) smelled like teen spirit". He rather liked the phrase but didn't realise that "Teen Spirit" was/is actually a branded deodorant for teenage girls. He found out too late and I think it added to the many reasons that Nirvana wouldn't play the song live. I'd forgotten all about that but today I was out shopping and I came across some "Teen Spirit". It's just as cutesy, princessy little girlie as can be. And to think it spawned a thrash classic. How amusing. My first thought was "must share this with Keef". So I'm sharing. Sorry. P

HonaloochieB Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I saw him at the Festival Hall too, the audience > was so full of good will we even gave David > Hasselhoff a round of applause in the interval. How funny. I wish I had seen that. I saw a really disturbing video of the Hoff a few months ago. He's a recovering alcoholoc and had fallen off the wagon. He was completely pissed and crawling on the floor. The video was shot by his daughter who kept on asking him "why do you keep doing this to yourself and to us". Car-crash footage. Heartbreaking. She sounded really young as well.
  16. HB - things are a little slow aren't they. Hasn't anyone declared their love for you in the last 24 hours? Can't someone take one for the team? Well that's just mean. I think you're a darling.
  17. Why can't the forumites posting on this thread just read the HOW TO START EACH DAY WITH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK thread? Would that not do the trick?
  18. One of my ex-boyfriends was a journalist. His daily postbag was full of dire press releases just like the one that started this thread. I once asked him how he coped with reading them all and he told me that his number one rule was to bin anything with "exciting" in the title or the first paragraph. He said anything that titled itself "exciting" never was. I think he had a point.
  19. The Beach Boys. Overated. I saw Brian Wilson a while ago at the Festival Hall and had a great time; sang along to all the hits; a very jolly evening. But the earth didn't move.
  20. Dearest JustG, I'm in my 40s. I wish I could tell you that it gets easier; but the truth is that it doesn't. We are all stumbling along doing the best we can and that's the best that can be said for any of us. You may come across people who appear to have it all sussed out; but that really is just a confidence trick; smoke and mirrors. People who know me would say I'm such a person but my jaw always drops when I hear this. I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I always try to be authentic. I'm as vulnerable and as scared as the next person. The choices that we make are important, for sure; but some things are chosen for us. We don't choose our families, and that's a biggie. We don't choose whether or not we are able to have children (I couldn 't). Society is cruel. There are things we are supposed to achieve and this puts us all under enormous pressure. It's like some sadistic bastard somewhere has created a template and if we can't tick all those boxes on cue then we're failing. You're a thirtysomething feeling the pressure, I'm a fortysomething feeling the pressure, so just imagine what it's like to be a teenager today! Terribly sorry, no good news here. No words of wisdom. Do the best you can. Be authentic. Be kind. Try hard not to screw up. If you do screw up; forgive yourself. Wear nice shoes. Be happy. Px
  21. TLS - may I ask the audience please?
  22. Regardless of how charging 50p can be justified by glass cleaning, service, whatever, I do see it as rather grubby.
  23. All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople (this was on the very first episode of ToTPs I ever saw)
  24. HB you're very naughty. OK now I'm going to be naughty too and get all name-droppey. This will impress the pants of you. A few years ago I went to a David Bowie gig at the Hammersmith Apollo (I think our own Mr McGhabban may have been lurking somewhere around and about at the same gig). Anyway, I sat next to Ian Hunter's daughter, Tracy. Her boyfriend's friend later provided me with a bootleg of the gig, which I still listen to and which has given me much pleasure. Could my connection with Ian Hunter possibly be more tenuous? How impressed are you HB? On a scale of 1 to 10?
  25. Rosie, You will find that your mum gets a lot of support from her local community. A community tends to rally when it is threatened. I remember a few years ago there was an armed robbery in the sub-post office on Crystal Palace Road (since closed). George and his wife were held at gunpoint whilst a riddiculously small amount of cash was taken. They were very elderly at the time and also the sweetest, loveliest people you could ever hope to meet. I have very fond memories of George serving small children with sweets and treating them as though they were his most important customers ever - magic. Anyway, this crime had a real effect on anyone using the shop so I am sure your mother will feel the support of her whole community. Years ago I once stood up to a robber armed with a knife. I told him exactly where he could put his knife and saw him off. Brave? You think? About an hour after the event I started to shake and cry. I am so glad your mum is alright Px
