  1. Greetings Lolalola Only you can answer the question of East Dulwich or Dulwich by visiting the area for at least a weekend. East (I'm talkining in the heart of Lordship Lane near Goose Green) is funkier, livelier, great shopping and good for transport links but then is also more noisy, crowded and can be difficult for parking. Dulwich proper is quite suburban, arguably the residents are a bit older and family orientated. Property is more expensive and transport links not great. Both areas have great green spaces, Peckham Rye and Dulwich Park and are good for the Arts whatever you're into. Have fun.
  2. I'm broadly in favour of a 20 mph zone in principle but I'm not convinced that it wont just become another expensive addition to the the traffic calming wallpaper that gets broadly ignored. The speed humps are a waste of money and easy to ignore, particularly as Rocket mentioned earlier, when the P13 thunders down (often in excess of 30 mph) causing every Victorian house near a speed bump to shudder and quake as another tiny bit of masonry flakes off. The mini roundabout at the intersection with Melford road is a theatre of accidents and everybody (me included) ignores the no right turn both in and out of Underhill/Lordship Lane. With the technology already available it should be possible via GPS to limit engines in all vehicles according to the speed rated area, with the exception of emergency vehicles . . . and perhaps white vans.
  3. agree with that. Perhaps pavements should be widened and non arterial roads made narrower to slow down traffic. Like the skinny back streets of an Italian town. Mind you I've nearly been mowed down by a Piaggio in Naples!
  4. The biggest market force is consumer demand. In the same way that we decide on whether to buy a free range chicken or fair trade banana, if people knew more about the way big property companies, I mean breweries, operate then they'd possibly think twice about where they drink or demand a change in legislation. Scor46 is doing a great job in that dept. That said I'm off to the Plough.

  16. Good point Keef about the permanence factor. Not all conditions and not all people are 100% receptive to this treatment. Conditions that are related to age often need top ups and if you're long sighted you'll probably still need to wear glasses for close up stuff, although your near range will be improved. Just like renewing your opthalmic prescription every few years. I also spoke to somebody who teaches at Moorfields (NHS part) who still wear contacts and wasn't very positive about laser treatment. IMO if you have serious eyesight problems then laser surgery is probably a godsend because glasses or contacts are possibly not an option or too cumbersome. If you have fairly minor or age related poor sightedness then traditional methods are probably a safer option. STB, you're doing the right thing by talking to as many people as possible and doing your research before reaching your own conclusions. There are probably more satisfied than dissatisfied recipients of this treatment.

  18. STB I seriously considered having laser surgery last year, I have mild presmyopia. I found this website Lasik Eyes useful. Ratings on clinics, forums on specific issues and explanations of the different procedures and technology involved. I had consultations at Focus Clinics in Wimpole St, Optical Express in Shaftesbury Avenue and Moorfields. Of those clinics, OE were the cheapest and don't charge for a consultation but I felt Moorfields, although more expensive would've been a safer bet if I'd opted for treatment. There is a lot of hard sell going on and each clinic claims to have the best laser and the most innovative procedures. You have to cut through the crap a bit. In the end I decided against it because I felt the technology still wasn't advanced enough, there's no guarantee of success, each clinic offers a different solution and I didn't want to have an op which couldn't be reversed. Good luck.
  19. I'm sure there's an interesting point in there somewhere. Can you add a little more to illustrate it? What data and what do you mean by leverage?

  21. Second that. In fairness it's the kiss of death taking on the role of Project Manager in the first task and Alex was particularly bad hence the discredit Raef and Nick strategy who were equally appalling. They're all knobs. You've got to be right up yourself to go on a show like that, but it makes great TV. I hope Raef gives as much comedy value as Tre who was truly priceless.
