Any news about the girls who were stabbed (by each other?)

It's a bit like the apparent 'fact' that 10% of drivers of cars on the roads in London have no licence or MOT or some such. How can you tell unless they are in an accident or you spot check (and there were LOADS caught on the Vauxhall Bridge Road Sunday that I saw). People will continue to walk their dogs and just hope they don't get caught. I think it is unreasonable and another example of how a few people abuse a system and we all have to pay. Elderly folks living on their pensions and little else can't afford - and nor is it necessary to - chip their dog and have a licence for it.

To see MrPR do once more what he loves doing more than anything else: gliding and teaching people to glide. He is thus a qualified gliding instructor and thus needs to have a good regular income to be able to afford to go do this amazing thing. But his job situation was such he had to stop his hobby for financial reasons. If he gets another job (photography based would be best which he has done professionally for years) and can afford to glide and teach gliding again, I will be happy happy happy.

Go on a year long road trip around the world. Wouldn't be enough time but I don't want to be greedy.

Brilliant idea, and also good thought from Huggers. Peckham Society would have something to say about that. I went on a Peckham Society tour and they discussed that though I think at the time that room was structurally unfit or something. A theatre, and used for theatre. As well as comedy obviously.

I apologise if you thought I was being serious, and I am sorry you do not like the area. Many of us do, and have no problem with it. It is terribly sad when violence breaks out but it is not a common occurrence and when it happens it is also a product of poverty / poor education / ignorance. So it's a class issue. And read any history book of London and mostly you'll see any similar situations in poorer areas. But I have lived here 26 years and walk down Rye Lane regularly. I certainly think anyone who has political power ie a councillor or MP or someone who is in their post thanks to a political party should be made to say so (in their signature?). I have enjoyed reading the posts above and learned from them.

Soo you think do you that most people get mugged and/or attacked on Rye Lane and that those of us who haven't been are therefore lucky? I think living within 2 miles of it you ought to leave. I must be a loose screw then. I often walk the length of Rye Lane to get to 36 bus stop or library or opticians or somewhere the other end. Walked it at night, too. Alone. Me, female. I may not choose to shop in Little Africa (as it is sometimes called, just as Southall is Little India which is fine), but I've seen fights in Kings Road Chelsea, too. I do hope you feel better about things soon and am glad to see you are comforted by the good 'uns!

That's unnecessary Huguenot and also unfair. They care and they don't want to be elected; just to have a fair say, which the councils are obliged to give them but which they never listen to or act upon.

Still, what could you do with a back balcony 3 floors up that I'm not doing. Covered in hanging baskets and trained honeysuckle and wisteria and bird feeders and hanging helmets. And space to sit down in the sun. All in an 8 ft by 6 ft little space! I attend meetings and make suggestions and submit ideas and try to answer to Southwark's never ending requests for our contributions and thoughts on their plans. It never makes a bit of difference. I don't mean - by saying that - that I'm sulking because they ignore all my suggestions, I really am not. What I am saying is that I have never heard or seen any evidence where any suggestion or complaint or contribution to any scheme Southwark Council suggests, is ever acted upon. They have an idea, they implement it (unless the money runs out beforehand). Laws say they have to ask us what we think. Laws do not say the Council has to take any notice at all. The PROS website is great by the way pros! And this is a Drawing Room issue. It's serious and affects us all.

May I make a suggestion that you join The Peckham Society and also read some of Mr John Beasley's books about Peckham? You'll learn that the wood structure building behind 'Crackerjacks' on Peckham High Street has finally been granted Grade II listing! Having said that, the website is not often updated, but the quarterly magazine edited by Mr Beasley himself has come second in some national award for the best local group magazine. How fab is that!

Another point is that the government say they will not do certain things with the information, but they say that now. When road humps came into force TfL or its equivalent at the time stated categorically they would not be putting these road humps on bus routes. You see my point.

I have thought long and hard about this opting out thing. I am an educated person and not a 'reactionary', and I definitely appreciate the benefits well designed technology can bring us. I am neither a luddite nor a moron. I have a Donor card I carry at all times and I have written on it what I am allergic to, my Blood Group (A+) and my next of kin and his number, as well as the conditions with which I suffer. When I was rushed to Kings College Hospital once I had the breath to merely speak my hospital number and name and none of the nurses or doctors bothered to check out my details anyway. Now who do you know who can recite their hospital number (and NI number and self employed tax reference etc!) What use is it if they don't even look at it anyway! But there are other reasons I stated and I stand by my decision and freedom to opt out without being called stupid names by those otherwise probably cleverer than I.
