  2. "Shoplifters are warned, our security take no shit"
  3. Now I understand. Road signs telling you not do something are not enough. You want another sign to tell you to definitely not do this, as you are going to be caught. Why not just follow the rules or get off the road.
  4. It's good to get a range of view points. I think everyone would agree that a new bike shop is a welcome addition to the area. Reading the first post, I can't help feeling that it was crapping all over the shop and its owner. It's only one view, which is their right to express, but how constructive is that? Are they offering that view as a warning to others? Does it mean this bike shop is not worth visiting? Have yet to go into the shop, but had a quick email reponse from the owner. Seems helpful.
  5. It sounds that the staff stepped out of line and it would be interesting to hear the other side of the story. There are plenty of people who believe criminals are able to use the system to their advantage. Without hopefully sounding like a facist, doesn't it come down to people not caring for authority, whether it's staff in a shop or staff at hospitals or the police. I absolutely believe the rule of law, but if it leaves everybody unable to deal with somebody committing a crime, what do you do? Just to spend your time seething at people appearing to 'get away with it'. A while ago, I watched the police take a chap who was causing unrest at a tube station and bundled him away. There were people taking photos, as they wanted to believe that they were watching police brutality, rather than them just doing their job. Perhaps, he said something about their Mums.
  6. It always confused me. Who are these people, who decide in the middle of the night to go to the local charity shop and dump there stuff outside. Is there some de-cluttering gene they have that is only activated in the wee small hours.
  7. Who knew that a plastic owl would be so expensive. Do you have a child you could dress up as one, twit-a-twooing as they go. Could make it into a game. Could you ask your neighbour to stop feeding them?
  8. Had to listen to the chappie, who used to service our lifts at work, bang on about how safe they were. He is now no longer able to work. Some kind of freak accident with a lift.
  9. Getting a puncture and being ploughed over by the 436 bus. Have that thought most days.
  10. Pedestrianise the whole area and build a huge flyover maybe through Herne Hill linking Camberwell and the South. Make the guys at Costcutter on East Dulwich Road smarten up their shop. Ask Tesco Metro staff run to check out when they're are more than one person waiting, rather than sluggishly coming when staff ring the bell. I'd get hold of the CCTV footage of the scene outside Ms Smalls house and arrange a public screening. Build a chair lift up Dog Kennel Hill for those lazy days.

I'm under no illusions that many would be interested in my trials and tribulations. I've posted a few personal things, but nothing reallt earth shattering. Unless knowing I'm gay and what school I went to floats your boat. I used to post on a forum where you could upload your avatar and realised that some of the crap I'd written could cause me problem, ie if somebody at work had looked. So took down the photo and deleted a few posts. I did google somebody name from another site once and all it really brought up was the tat he'd being trying to sell on Ebay. On any site, I would only really talk about myself and not include information on friends or family. I also don't sign my name and haven't gone on any of the drinks yet. C*****

O don't buy it. My > sister suffered from eczema for years, the doctor > just gave her steroid cream - not great given it > thins the skin and hers was particularly bad round > the eyes where the skin is already thin enough. > That is rubbish. Is there anybody in the medical profession who believes that they have the answer to every medical condition. To compare the level of training gained with a 3 year degree in, as you call it "conventional", un-conventional medicine is absurd. When you find yourself with an illness that might posssibly kill you, rather than just having a skin rash, believe me, I would not put my medical well-being in the hands of anybody who was not a fully qualified doctor.
  13. I would probably be feeling shaken if I'd have experienced what you saw. Well, except for the fact that I would have been inside the house, behind the sofa with my ipod at full blast, waiting for the RSPCA or somebody else to deal with it. I love seeing foxes pottering around these streets, that is until they come within 20 feet and then I'm a complete wreck, screaming and trying to shoo the mangey things away. Some of the comments above may not be terribly sympathetic, but as I've never had the inclination to bond and get to know them individually, hey ho. Am I the only one who raises an eyebrow at the very thought of a Charity calling themselves the Fox Project?
  14. Thanks for that Espelli. Not having children myself, I often feel wary of having contact with children, in case it is misconstrued. This thread reminded me of a visit to Dulwich Swimming Baths a number of years ago. I was with a guy I was seeing at the time. There were 3 young boys there, two of which were being a bit loud. They approached us for some reason, asking questions and then one asked if were we gay. We just swam off, not wanting to get involved. The third boy just kept staring at us and no matter which end we went to, he followed. After this kept happening, we decided to call it a day and leave. Afterwards, when we were discussing it, we both presumed the staring boy was probably a gay kid. We were so wary of how it could possibly have been seen, or if one of the boys had said something dumb to one of the staff, that neither of us wanted to continue swimming, which was stupid. Not sure how I would react today, but I am still sensitive around children I don't know. In the park and many other situations, I often find myself just look past them as though they're not even there. I was certainly allowed to roam all over as a kid, but I don't think it was necessarily safer. I was mugged on the way back from school, was taken to hospital after I kicked really badly to the floor once after nearly hitting a guy with a peashooter and another time, two guys tried to drag me into a car aged about 9. I was still allowed out to play with friends. One thing I do remember is that in all these cases there were adults, who I didn't know, who came to my help.
  15. Perhaps, there's still hope that my 'lost' Amazon parcel might turn up one day.
  16. "No Keef, it is relevant - see my post above. Social services, the police and the school failed to communicate the information they had about about Huntley being a paedophile." So, we should spend our lives waiting for something so exceptional to happen? Or get on with our lives, not always worrying about the worst case scenario.
  17. NSPCC statistics show that there about roughly 80 child murders a year, of which about 80% are killed by their parents. I really don't understand the argument about Holly and Jessica.
  18. KateW Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The difference being Pierre that he was FILMING > the children. At the moment, we only have the report that Jimbo's Mother in Law saw this. I'm sure that she is a fine upstanding woman, but as yet, it ain't necessarily a fact.
  19. What worries me is that somebody with a video camera around children can suddenly escalate in to him being a furtive, possible paedo. The police are called and those involved are reassured that the world is a bad, bad place, where children have to be protected/ smoothered and must not be let out on their own. And that's sad. Yet many people seem happy enough to share shots and videos of themselves and families all over the web, post all sorts of personal history for anybody to have a shuffty at.
  20. When I was growing up, there was a guy who was known as the local perv. From what I remember, he used to enjoy the company of young boys. He was just kind of around and we never really took much notice. Oh well, there's always one. Perhaps, he'll go on and get hardcore with CBeebies.
  21. I kind of expected that I would be in the High Crime area, but then it does take in the main roads, Peckham Rye and part of Rye Lane. I found it interesting that they report that there have been 9 homicides in Southwark in the year up to June 2008. It's still grim, but I would have estimated it higher. That there have been over 9000 crimes using violence is depressing. It's good to know this information, but not sure what we can do about it, except run to the shops and back to avoid the crim fraternity.
  22. Tomorrow Was War at the National Pravda (again) Carousel, Joanna Riding and Patricia Routledge (saw this again and again) Follies, Julia McKenzie, Diana Rigg The Normal Heart at the Royal Court Hamlet, Mark Rylance Arcadia, Felicity Kendal, Rufus Sewell Three Sisters at Greenwich. Joanna Whalley was simply staggering. Angels in America Henry IV parts 1 and 2 at the Old Vic with John Woodvine as Falstaff and err, 11. The House of Bernarda Alba, Glenda Jackson and Joan Plowright
