  2. This is one of my pet hates and I sympathise. Why they can't collect during 9 to 5 on any day, thus avoiding waking up people at unreasonable hours as well clogging up the rush hours traffic. If services are contracted out, it should be written in as a clause. Just because the bin men want to finish early is a crap excuse. Saturday morning whinge over, but I will write to the Council about this, because it makes me seethe, well a little.
  3. As well as M&S, Jones & Higgins, Peckham used to be full of smaller shops that would put Lordship Lane to shame. We used to love the little Deli under the arches of the station and all the antique shops at the top of Rye Lane. Not sure that the degeneration of North Peckham caused the deteriation of Rye Lane. Both were victims to the Thatcher recession, sorry economic miracle which swept away many small businesses that had been around for years.
  4. What's not to love about Peckham? I could happily wile away the hours in my local internet caf/ laminating/ printing/ hair styling and grooming/ everything for a ?/ mini cab/ money transfer/ travel agent/ estate agent/ cd and video and food emporium. And all under one roof. I agree about the drugs in SE15 and SE22. The only difference may be what kind of drug they're taking, whose dealing and possibly the cost.
  5. Me Mam, when she comes visiting. Always good for half a dozen bottles. Then, the local supermarket and Green and Blue if I'm going to dinner.
  6. I should get worked up about 42 days, but with all the machinations of both parties and posturing of ?Dickie? Davis, it?s been reduced to a side show. Why has Brown bigged up the issue, when there are more important issues to stake your political future on? The argument seems to be that the police will need more time to do their job against terrorism effectively. Isn?t that more about resources? Is that really worth sending a message to everyone that you can be detained for 6 weeks without being charged? The recent stance of the Tories that they are the party of individual freedom makes me laugh. I presume Davis thought he was onto a winner, taking Shami Chakrabarti?s advice and making a stand. Makes you realise that having principles and being an effective politician don?t always go hand in hand. I find CCTV aggravating, but it doesn?t really worry me. What did news programmes do before we had grainey footage of people, err walking. Imagine the Jill Dando story without her walking into the shop on the day she was killed? We all watched. You?d probably learn more about most of us reading this site. Some gormless image of me, picking my nose, meandering up Lordship Lane, daydreaming, is of interest to whom? Oh, and should the Police get paid more? No. Particularly my whinging brother in law.
  7. When I started clubbing it was Fridays- The LA in Shoreditch which turned into 333 Saturdays- Love Muscle at Fridge followed by Trade at Turnmills on Sunday morning and a while later Sherbert at the Soundshaft on Sunday afternoon- which lasted a couple of years- the best club ever! Sundays- FF at Turnmills, which was always a bit manic. Didn't really get to see much daylight at the weekends.

I was in one of those transition periods and sort of forgot my dignity.
  9. Live on the edge of the Rye and work in Vauxhall, home to mongey Gay clubbers everywhere. Try to walk to work most days, up over the hill and down Camberwell Grove and along the main road. A relaxing walk. Unless I'm hungover, when I retreat to the bendy cattle-truck.
  10. So, they printed a load of vouchers to advertise a bag that was meant to encourage us to recycle? I'll add it to my bags for life pile.
  11. I hear you. Standards of cleanliness are generally rather lax. Am I the only one who takes their own bedding and matress cover when staying at a hotel? Also, a discreet once over with a Johnson's wet wipe before nookie, makes for a much more relaxing experience (Other Generic-Branded wipes are to be avoided. You get what you pay for).
  12. The new layout seems too complicated and not very safe, particularly for bikes. Walking down there today, I watched two lorries and a van reversing in the road, as they could not fit through the restrictions. I can't see why they didn't stop all cars going down, it was so much quieter.
  13. Great idea. Get rid of the stupid fences. As far as I can see, our lovely, friendly pet owners think it is pen to allow their dogs to wander without lead and blow their guts on the grass for any hapless person to step/ sit/ fall on. Perhaps, it will encourage them to keep them on a lead, or be forced to scrape a very flat Tiddles or Fang, or whatever they call their dogs, off of East Dulwich Road. I think the fence was always a mistake and just because it's there, it shouldn't be a reason for the Council to change their mind and realise the error of their ways. They did the same successfully on the bottom of Peckham Rye.
  14. There was a storm?
  15. I reserve my right to flounce off and return as though nothing happened. I think that one thread here has really got my goat and would rather express how I felt and have it out in the open, for others to agree or not. I do try to separate what somebody writes and comments as opposed who somebody really is. Why come back? Becuase I enjoy it, it's local, it keeps me busy at work and I like slumming it with the hetties.
  16. Sean If I was feeling a bit OCD about it, I would happily cut and paste some fantastic quotes, but no, I'm not. I was really angry when I first read this thread and the way it developed. When it came back today, I felt that I should express a little solidarity and support. I wanted to say that I personally disagreed with many of the comments. I am sure that there was no intention to be bullying or homophobic. I think I was quite careful to not accuse people of doing that, rather that the written comments felt that way. I am just confused by the whole idea of having to justify a gay and lesbian parent group, no matter how politely it was meant. Perhaps, one of these days, I should drag myself to one of the drinks nights.
  17. I'm not suprised Cazzyr is angry. Reading many of the comments, I experienced many of them as at the very least bordering on homophobic. Cazzyr was asked to justify the idea of a group, when it seemed to me a prefectly "normal" question to ask. The fact that many rallied round with some dreadful and yep, misogynistic comments was a real low point. That many in the group felt the same, does not mean your attitude was correct, just that a group of like-minded people gathered round. It felt very much one against the group and I am not suprised that Cazzyr has reacted that way. It felt to me like bullying.
  18. Anybody apart from current neighbours would do. 4 in the morning and it sounds like he's sawing his girlfriend in half. She sounds in pain. Leave off, and go to sleep!
  19. A lot of the side roads in East Dulwich are generally very quiet and it tends to give you a false sense of security. I'm also one of those, who walk around day dreaming and not paying much attention, and have come very close to being flattened. Particularly if I'm a bit hung over in the morning and trudging to work. I have been in car in Clapham, when a kid on roller skates came suddenly from a side street. Watching him bounce of the screen was not the nicest of experiences. The wierd bit was watching his mother come out from her house, trying to look after him, but managing to continue and finish the cigarette she was holding. Also, a few months ago, I watched a woman push her pushchair on Rye Lane into an oncoming 12 bus. Luckily it missed them by a whisker, but it was horrifying to watch.

I am curious about this. Somewhere along the line, words like standardise, organise sprout a Z. For me, it's about the pronunciation. I don't want to go round buzzing Zs everywhere.
  21. Organization or any other word that's lost its S along the way. Unless you're referring to America or some other country, lay off. I hate the way it sounds, the word just fades out as you speak it. My email at work keeps auto-correcting words to Z, no matter how many times I try to change the settings.
  22. Having been the lucky one to have been contacted by a kind bereaved chap from Sierra Leone, who tansferred $100,000,000 to my account, I now spend my time answering adverts to increase the girth of my ever-growing manhood.
  23. I would steer clear of the trying to sell on well known auction sites. Everybody is trying the same and it's got all a bit swamped. Unless you're piss poor and need to feed the kids asap, it is an awful lot of effort for not much return.
  24. My Winter wardrobe without a coat.
  25. Not to panic, you cats will be OK with this http://www.rtfract.com/rtfract/GASMASK.jpg
