  1. CWALD - don't disagree with much of what you say, you have made some well argued comments that are obviously held strongly. my concern is the abuse of the system which means that a single man will never in a million years (certainly not 100) get a council flat unless there are some real issues in his life. I believe it is indirect discrimination that this is the case. There are many issues that I have against council housing but not out of first principles but more in the application and their ability tp stoke hositility in communities. I'm glad you're proud of your status, and why ever not shouldn't you be, it is your life and your choice. I don't agree that you have somehow subsidised my life, in fact I was paying rent for 10 years at exorbitant amounts when I could least afford it because of the choking off of council properties by the colonisation of social housing by certain groups.
  2. Or Blue Mountain?
  3. Goodness. I can see this one turning quite ugly. I am ambivalent regarding social housing. As has been said before for this economic model (i.e. the UK) they ought to be for those in need. There are a number of folk him live in them who could well afford not to. They are not means tested after the tenant has moved in and to me it is unfair. I also don't like how people can 'acquire these homes' but I shalln't say anymore on that topic. I know that on the continent things work slightly differently but even so if folk wish to rent then it should be done privately as we don't have enough homes/space to provide social housing for all. If we did I wouldn't have an issue about it.
  4. Even if it is a tax it is one of the few I am gladly willing to pay. What is the alternative?
  5. It's really not my cup of tea - as mentioned in earlier threads. Each to their own I guess.
  6. For me it is money well spent and supports Uk talent in the fields of broadcasting, drama, journalism, music, education, comedy etc... YEs it sometimes gets things wrong and is often victim/stooge of the Government of the day, but I for one and happy we have it.
  7. it looked very much as though he was going to go for it, things that made him wait would be: Tory bounce/bribe Polls in the marginal rates Uncertainty over the economy Should the economy get back on track the election will no doubt be called sooner rather than later.
  8. You're an asset to the aussie cause.
  9. I've always got ladybirds invading the house all year through. Yes you've guessed it there's a lot of foliage in my garden.
  10. It will do just fine. There are plenty of 'middle class' and 'commoners' living in the area to patronise whichever establishments they wish. Good luck to Bellenden.
  11. I'm an entertainer not a fishmonger.
  12. I assume this was written by an adolescent.
  13. Domitianus - as informative as that was a link or a summary would suffice, also, in reference to the admonishment from Admin, how is this directly relevant to ED? The Chancellor, Alistair Darling (not Broon), has today said he sees the economy slowing and possibly stalling, this is relevant but how to ED? That I think is what we have all been discussing and ought to be the point of this thread otherwise this too will be lounged. Out of interest a friend of mine worked for a large media company on Nutbrook Street (behind Goose Green) but the staff at that site were mostly made redundant (300 people) some months back. Another example of skilled/professional jobs no longer being provided in the area. Yes, there is more investment coming to ED but much of it is consumer focussed (retail) and that will be where the local economy will suffer as it does not seem to have a diverse enough work force. Our macro economy is fuelled by consumer demand and it won't be as strong going forwards.
  14. I think the largest colonies are in Richmond and Bushy Parks. They spread out from there.
  15. *takes a bow* waits behind the curtain for the encore... but it never arrives :-$

  17. They've always favoured the well-heeled.
  18. where, are, you
  19. That's nothing, you should have seen the one in my bathroom only last week...
  20. Great news I will pass your details on to a friend of mine.
  21. Stumpy Understandably you may well have been hurt, if indeed you know the owner of the car, but let this one go as it doesn't really show anyone in a good light. Stick around and you'll see that it is actually a good place to mix with other people. You may find your forum-phobia goes away. If not then so long, but please now desist with the negativity.
  22. They normally reside in Dulwich Park. I think they are green parakeets which are noisy little so and so's. http://www.worldbirdingcenter.org/bird_info/images/green_parakeet.jpg
  23. There's a little steam left in the engine yet. It is after all London. But for how much longer...

Some of us are alright. My sentiments exactly. Your profession is not as holy as you presume. Yes it is regulated and predicated on a particular level of trust and confidence but you typify the ugly underbelly of it with your arrogance. Conveyancing lawyers, personal injury lawyers and matrimonial lawyers are they any better than estate agents? The point is your attitude does not engender warmth whereas HP does. So however superior you may feel you or your profession is people judge you by your conduct.
  25. Sorry to be contrary but I like Porsches and hopefully that will be my next car. Each to their own. You certainly cannot know someone from the car they drive, the clothes they wear nor the way they speak. If you think you do then you ought to evaluate how you yourself perceive others.
