Progress report... 5 bods on site .. 11.30. with 13 Blocks lined up to be lowered into place.. unfortunately no sign of the little machine that lowers them into place and the ground does not look prepared to accept them.. seems like 2 - 3 blocks a day is the average.. I was in Berlin in the 70's.. a Junction the size or Hyde Park Corner was being resurfaced. Dozens of lorries and machinery turned up Friday afternoon. 100's of road engineers worked around the clock and the junction opened Monday morning.. and the technology in the 70's was less sophisticated. It's a joke.. a few kerbstones and some paving.. ?? DulwichFox -

The Cherry Tree / Vale has always had the potential to be a great pub. But everyone that has lived here for any time knows what / who the problem was, Now a great opportunity for the new owners to turn this place around. It has the space to accommodate sport along side food and a good selection of ales . I'm not so sure they will need to resort to Quiz nights. EDT tried that recently and it was a total flop. The EDT is not a failing pub but Quiz night was the whim of a new manager Who has since been moved on. I do occasionally go to Dulwich Hamlet when I'm not at Millwall And may well pop in to the Cherry Tree post match. Also Hong Hong is my Fav. Chinese so another excuse To pay them a visit Foxy

No one seems to be in any hurry to get in there... Building could be left empty for a while and every day it looks more tatty.. More of a eyesore than the much criticised Iceland 'eyesore' Careful what you wish for. Foxy

Hopefully we'll be able to install some nice street containers> with planting to soften it a bit, but I'm guessing> that this will be against some new highway> policy... Please bear in mind planters may well impede view of oncoming traffic / cyclists from motorists turning out of North Cross Rd. There are other examples of this where railings impede the view of oncoming traffic. Ok from vans but when in a car you are much lower down so as a driver you have to edge out to see what's coming. Most people usually Choose to work from home for the very reasons I have stated.. If you are running a business from an insecure network then you asking for trouble.. Likewise online banking and other business related internet access. Dangers of insecure networks To understand that we first have to understand what a hacker normally does when he infects your computer with a virus. Infected computers allow hackers to do lots of no-good things such as: Use your computer to send SPAM. SPAM is generally sent from the computers of unsuspecting people who?ve been infected with a virus. Perform a Denial of Service attack. Key Logging. This is an attack where a virus watches everything that you type on your keyboard and relays it to a hacker somewhere remotely. Not so interesting if you?re writing an email to your mom, but VERY interesting if you?re entering account information into your bank?s site or typing in your credit card numbers to but something online. Privacy issues and identity theft. Once a hacker can control your computer, he can see pretty much everything. An infected computer is dangerous to use. However, when hackers attack routers and networks, every computer in the home becomes dangerous. This is because these attacks: Allow hackers to take control of your DNS system. Direct your computer to places which will infect it with viruses. Take you to sites that only look like the ones you want to use. They?re really sites controlled by the hacker where he can serve you any information that he wants. Source:- http://www.routercheck.com/dangers-of-insecure-networks/ Many people just aren't aware of the dangers or think their anti-virus will protect them.. The Hackers will take control of your device and disable your anti-virus. DulwichFox -

I'm sitting at home working on my laptop, TV / Music on in the background. No buggies.. Kids running around.. If I want a coffee / tea biscuit, I pop to the kitchen put on the kettle and I'm all done in 5 minutes.. Why lug Laptops and power leads down the caf?. ?? I think a lot of it is the desire to be seen. Well the days of the young upwardly- mobile professional are long passed. Went out with the Filofax. Some people need a whisper in their ear.. And your home Wi-Fi is going to be FAR more secure than any Pub/Caf? internet connection.. Scammers and ID thieves love these places.. The person on the next to you may well be sharing more than just a table with you.. Your email can easily be compromised without you knowing and your credit card details can be accessed. And this can be done with simple kit and cheap available software.. DulwichFox -

Best solution is to keep food waste to an absolute minimum.. Wish I could truthfully say that I do.. The thing is with Supermarket packaging being designed around couples and families and living alone there is always waste. Things like meat and fish. Once opened use immediately. I waste a lot of bread. The more expensive sourdoughs without preservatives don't last long and I cannot eat a whole loaf in two days.. Foxy

I did my predictions on the 19th Aug.. I even printed them off.. Just checked.. All week 3 predictions GONE.. Have done them again and seems ok.. Advise every one to double check. I had Man. U. 2 Newcastle 0. But now too late. Foxy.

Have people here never heard of the Freemasons.. ;-) Foxy -
I've checked the Southwark website and it would seem that black bags are acceptable. I really think it is down to the crew that comes out.. they seem to have their own interpretation of what can and what cant be taken.. One guy refused my Green bin because it had dirty kitchen towel in it. Tissue and Kitchen Towel cannot be recycled.. where are you supposed to put it ?? Foxy.
-
Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Surely what is in the green bin is stuff that > cannot be recycled anyway, so it's irrelevant > whether it's in a black bag or not? > > Some of the stuff I put in the green bin might > occasionally be in a black bin bag, but most is > not. Nobody has ever left a note telling me I was > doing it wrong :) I don't know.. needs clarification.. Green Box is for house hold waste.. So old pots, pans cutlery, lots of stuff.. It does get sorted and recycled if suitable. rest goes to landfill. black bags cannot be recycled and cannot be sent to landfill. I took some garden waste in a heavy duty green bag to Devon st. Depot. As I tipped it into the garden waste hopper the bag tore and I lost hold of it and the bag fell in the hopper. The Depot guy gave me a right telling off. I apologised and said it was an accident. He said we don't accept plastic bags.. There is a separate wheelie bin to put plastic shopping bags in.. There is a hopper for Wood, one for metal , one for building rubble, one for household. You can recycle anything at Devon St. Paper, Books, Batteries, ink cartridges, clothes, shoes, electrical goods, Engine oil, cooking oil.... You just need to show you are a Southwark resident. Foxy

geh Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > what goes in the green bin 'general waste' if its > not in a black sack it won't be collected and you > get a note on the bin then? That's not correct. Have not used black bags for many years an My waste is collected every fortnight Black bags are NOT biodegradable and cannot be recycled. Dulwichfox

You are not supposed to use Black Bin Bags anymore they were 'outlawed' years back.. I used to use bin liners and they used to take the whole bag and contents to prevent them having to tip the bin then they stopped taking them and my bins were not emptied.. I think to some extent it depends on the bin man. DulwichFox

Mrs TP Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bromley has an M&S and it's not just a food shop - > oh wait that's another thread ;) Southwark has a Marks and Spencer at 311 Walworth Road, Southwark, and it's not just a food shop.. Southwark is not just East Dulwich although reading here on EDF you might get the impression it is.. DulwichFox PS.. Back to green food waste bags...
