Would be great if local councillors could get as involved in this as with other projects like sourcing sites for new schools etc. This issue is just as important. Do we have any support from the council? If you can't help could you please actively advise who can.
  2. Due to poor turn out the meeting that was schedule to take place yesterday evening did not happen. Yes it was late notice for people but you can't blame those at the surgery for trying. Comments like littleones referring to not accessing information about the meeting until late due to being a work and such is not helpful. Most of us work and can't just drop things last minute. There's no point complaining you were not involved. You could help yourselves - call the surgery, express your interest in wanting to help in whatever way you can. MAKE yourselves heard instead of expecting others to run around doing the work for you. I had only found out about the meeting shortly before posting on here that is was taking place - directly from the surgery. I also was unable to attend and I'm only passing on information as it is being shared. BicBasher attached is a list of surgeries being advised to join. I have concerns that although there is "choice" I'm not convinced it will be easy to simply switch. It was already identified there wasn't a suitable surgery that could take all Dr Sarma's patients in bulk so the other surgeries are expected to absorb these patients - what if a large number wanted to register at a particular surgery over others. They wouldn't be able to cope resulting in patients being refused and having to go elsewhere which could then be a similar occurrence across the board. Patients being pushed from pillar to post. Not particularly fair.
  3. Are you saying the only problem (minus the unfriendly staff) is the card won't work? Does this stop him using the facilities or anything offered as part of membership? I'd certainly inquire to the having the card replaced. If not having the card working is stopping him from using the facilities surely he shouldn't be paying for a service he's not receiving especially if the company is not offering a way to solve the problem and he should stop the direct debit.
  4. For anyone interested, particularly patients of the surgery, there will be a meeting held this evening at the surgery 5pm. Would strongly advise anyone who is free to attend.
  5. Please see attached DRAFT letter due to be sent patients shortly. The PPG (Patient Participant Group) met with NHS reps yesterday after being invited to attend by the surgery. Many had assumed it would be to discuss the rumours currently being circulated with an opportunity for input and helpful information on next steps. This was sadly not the case. The purpose of the meeting transpired to be purely for the PPG to accept the draft letter before official notification/circulation to patients. The opportunity to actually do anything about it has long since passed with plans being made to close going further back than anyone had assumed. I'm surprised local councillors were unaware (or claim to be) that this was in the pipeline.
  6. I stress again - nothing has been made official. Surgery staff, rightfully concerned, should not really be discussing this with patients in the openess that they have been. It has nothing to do with "requiring proof" as I have also heard the rumours. We shouldn't be assuming the surgery is automatically closing. Plans may be being made. That's all.
  7. Sorry to say, you really should have considered this before the hayfever has kicked in. As with most natural remedies you have to start things off before the condition sets in. There are other natural remedies you might want to consider - acupressure bands for example, whilst don't erase the symptoms of hayfever they do ease it quite considerably.
  8. lameduck how do you know Dr Sarma is retiring and the surgery is closing if patients have not been told? My impression is at present this is nothing but GOSSIP. If nothing has been officially said what will be happening to the surgery to anyone has anyone thought why would that be? Might it be those concerned aware the need for the surgery to continue especially with the future of the hospital always in question. Perhaps we should wait for more solid information to come through?

Come now, lets not be soft. Besides, depends on the route taken. Cycling is quite popular I hear. I used to walk every day to and from school from East Dulwich to West Dulwich no more than a 30 minute walk, never did me any harm and certainly taught me to not depend on motorised modes of transport. I'm confused over your comment over amenities. What is your definition of an amenity? BOTH areas have an abundance of everything one could possibly need - shops (whether a cluster of tacky independent shops or several "local" supermarket chains near by), schools, transport, health facilities, pubs/bars/eateries. What more could you want? When people think of East Dulwich where do they actually mean? Lordship Lane? Of course it's a buzzing area (LL) but then what else is there, if you were to take away the "high street", that makes ED superior to West Dulwich?
  15. Does it really matter? Both are not THAT far from each other really! Transport in both areas IS good (despite some comments already raised). Both are close to all amenities - not only for shops, schools (both primary AND secondary)and transport but also for health - plenty of doctors to choose from (of varying quality) and near to the hospital. Property wise both areas are ridiculously expensive for what you get... *shrugs*

  17. From BBC Travel news 06.55: A2216 Lordship Lane East Dulwich, both ways between B219 Barry Road and Landells Road A2216 London - A2216 Lordship Lane in East Dulwich closed in both directions between the B219 Barry Road junction and the Landells Road junction, because of a serious accident. Diversion in operation - for buses 40, 176 and 185.
  18. Do be careful not to get too carried away with your trimming and be mindful for possible nests WITH babies within the "bush" Neighbours recently practically destroyed their annoying monstrosity of a shrub and completely ignored the blackbirds dive bombing them as they disturbed/destroyed an established nest. Was quite sad watching the parents of the destroyed nest continuing to fly around after the incident occurred in search of any survivors.

  20. Oooo are you baking me a bday cake loz? :)) what type of food are you really interested in monitoring? Meat? Cakes? Bread? Not that I have a clue about such things! I'd like to follow my neighbours way of knowing when food is ready - when the smoke alarm goes off - but I think that may be a little on the over done side ;-)

  22. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yummy_mummy "Yummy mummy is a slang term used in the United Kingdom to describe young, attractive and wealthy mothers" Made me chuckle especially "The stereotypical yummy mummy was described by Nirpal Dhaliwal in The Times as having an existence "bankrolled by a husband working himself to death in the City, [dressing] in designer outfits... carries the latest must-have bag [and] whose hair and nails are perfectly groomed". A yummy mummy would have several children and yet remain a "girl-about-town", dressing fashionably and appearing well-groomed and carefree" Can we really use this particular definition to the ED lovelies? I've never seen much "fashion" or appearance of "well grooming" around here! (yes yes I know they have kids, what else would one expect blah blah blah)
