  1. I can't remember the Palmeston ever being a particuarly nice boozer when it was the Lord Palmeston. Whether or not it is overpriced it is a definite improvement on its previous incarnation (in my opinion)
  2. How long does it last - this is my third day of cramping and slight fever?
  3. I don't think I could go out with a smoker any more - the smell of stale smoke on clothes ugh........... they would have to love me enough to give up!;-)
  4. Which we did - and had a wonderful German Red with our cheese - it's a shame that more places don't do that but I guess you would have to be supremely confident in both your wine list and your punters that wine wouldn't go to waste.
  5. I have eaten the set weekday lunch at the Palmeston and found it to be a bargain - can't afford to eat there a la carte. Sadly their excellent Chapel Down is no longer on the wine list due to lack of interest in English wines which is a real shame. Have also eaten the set lunch at Arbutus - excellent food but extremely small portions - although I guess to be expected at such low prices (it was ?15 for 3 courses when I ate there). Love the way they do wine by the 1/3 of a bottle - gives one the opportunity of trying expensive and unusual wines. For really good value food I would recommend braving it to Croydon and eating at Albert's Table - before it gets a Michelin star and the prices go sky high!
  6. Is it licensed? B.Y.O.? I like a glass of wine with my pizza.
  7. Emily I am always in the market for second hand clothes - what size are the Ghost items?

  9. I have never drunk in the Castle - but I certainly do agree that there should be something for everyone. There are people who prefer the gastro pub, those who want a child friendly place, those who like cocktails and those who want to watch sport. Surely we are all capable of accepting that in a diverse area like ED there should be a diverse selection of places to relax and have a drink. Why should anyone (even if taking the p*ss) think that everything should cater for their tastes?
  10. Says it's going to have a Sardinian twist - sounds interesting.
  11. We stayed here: http://www.emzoe.com/ I think that should suit (as long as your parents are quite fit as there is a spiral staircase and no lift). The breakfasts are absolutely wonderful, and the garden and rooftop terrace (with views of the Blue Mosque, the Haga Sofia and the sea) are brilliant.
  12. Gosh *Bob* you sound so interesting yourself - mmm let me guess - balding and 3/4 length trousers. A real East Dull-wich man.
  13. "Au contraire, I would suggest interesting men are probably far better in bed than pretty ones - less of a lie back and adore me attitude" I'm not talking about making love - I'm talking about having a shag - horses for courses!
  14. Who cares if he was interesting - I thought this thread was about who you'd like to shag. Interesting men and good shags are not always the same thing. And I still think Lily Allen is on the chubby side.
  15. She's a bit blooming porky isn't she? or is chubby a nicer way of putting it? Can you have puppy fat at her age? I liked Jim Morrison but realise he's a bit of a porker himself - or was - as I guess there is little in the way of flesh hanging off those old bones now!
  16. Tulse Hill has far better train connections than East Dulwich.
  17. Oh my goodness I've just agreed with every word that Snorky said...............

  19. You can buy stamps at the card shop and at some of the newsagents - they add a couple of pence on but if you are in a hurry it is another option.
  20. I'm off LL and got mine on Monday.

  22. I had a quick look round - again although I fully appreciate how much work had gone into it and could see that lots of people were enjoying it - not quite my thing. I did find it amusing that two of the main 'foodie' stalls - number 22 and Baburs were not actually ED restaurants. Their food is fab and they are both favourites of mine, but did think it was a shame that the event did not have a more local foodie representation.

    MPs' expenses

Best of all these perks are all entirely tax-free (voted in by MP's quite recently) - so a double whammy.

What I was saying was that I don't care how many threads there are in the Family Room about schooling - and I didn't understand why Snorky does. I honestly cannot see how someone without children can be bothered about "posts on Schooling, ranking & fighting for places" Can't see where knife crime comes into my comment tbh!
  25. I don't have kids, I don't go in the Family Room and I don't read threads about schooling. Why should anyone who is not actually affected by this bother? Incidentally I only read this thread because I wanted to see what 'Snorky' - any version improved or not, had to say about schools.......... should have known really.
