  1. I think it might have been possible to implement most of the changes she did without being quite so "one of us?" about it Much like the current lot really - I think it's possible to be unpopular, to take hard decisions, to make necessary cuts without being quite so supercillious I think that may account for a lot of the ongoing hate. It's what I would suggest as a (mild) alternative anyway
  2. when we had the north sea oil money and privatisation in full swing? Not so many. I know, I'm as surprised as you! We did have a big recession at the start and at the end of her reign tho. So it wasn't all gravy and prudence
  3. Rebuild from os disk and reinstall any software you need
  4. Instead of a titter maybe I should have said "as if" I wasn't laughing at a newbie
  5. The next xbox has all manner of horrible rumours about it (and given the way MS have pushed adverts and a cluttered dashboard in recent updates I?m inclined to believe the rumours) But not playing 360 discs doesn?t bother me somehow ? the PS3 never really didplay PS2 discs, apart from a brief bit at the beginning The 360 tried to play xbox discs and sometimes did but it wasn?t very satisfactory Backward compatibility just isn?t something I expect (I?d LOVE it ? who wants all the extra power and cables) ? but it doesn?t seem all that feasible
  6. "After just 63 posts and less than a month registered on the Forum," * titter *
  7. It was to allow multiple devices to connect to a single socket on ack of an old school Telly It ,was cheap back then and worth almost nothing now Sorry
  8. What that really tells is mr Ben, is not the difference in politicians today. It tells of the process of politicians, how they are selected, how they are reported and how the public judges them In short he wouldn't stand a chance today. People SAY they want vision and boldness...I'm not so sure
  9. check for the HDMI port then - if you can see it then any hdmi cable will work If you haven't got a HDMI port on the xbox, check the TV has the RGB sockets - that'll be the way to go without HDMI (el pibe should be horsewhipped for even suggesting the yellow video connector!)
  10. Otta You will probably have a red green blue set of connections on the tv somewhere? What model is it? I should have some spare cables for you If its a newer Xbox then just a hdmi cable. Again I have spares
  11. " I gave up on GTA4 on xbox pretty quickly because I bought it at the same time as RDR, and the latter wiped the floor with it." yup - so many things were better. better missions, annoying mid-mission save points corrected, atmosphere etc etc However I do still love GTAIV for that NY vibe
  12. Louisa adopting an "overplaying her devils advocate cards" strategy today I see
  13. Given who can actually OWN a club and what they get up to (allegedly), the leanings of a manager seem small beer in comparison But the fact is a manager is high profile whilst owners get to be shadowy characters in the background. There are probably loads of managers with worse views than PdC but have the sense to keep schtum. Not sure who that makes better or worse but there it is So ? a lot of heat and noise around the appointment. It?ll fade away. Fans seemed vocal in support yesterday (compared with Chelsea fans and Benitez) and if results go their way I doubt many people will care either way Edited to add: I do think his appointment will end badly however. What can work wonders in a lower league can wilt dramatically with a more moneyed and self-regarding group of players in the Premiership I sspect short to medium term he will have a positive impact but as soon as the first sustained dip happens?
  14. Over the years of James writing those columns, I came to rather like the guy. Maybe he does have an axe to grind but as a commentator on the game in general I quite like him
  15. cheers for the recs Pibe I haven't gone all PS3 no - but I don't "go to the shops" much these days and it was a game I could download immediately from PSN so in a moment of impulse, I did No amount of me pleading with you to get to the reveal in Bioshock 1 succeded in getting you to do so - so the conclusion that the game mechanics are fundamentally not your bag probably remains as true today. The world and it's feel are very different ( and having a 1920s barber shop quartet fly by on an open top zepplin whilst singing a version of God Only Knows is a moment I won't forget) but you will find yourself doing very familiar things But I hold with the idea that you don't play these games for the mechanics - it's all about Da Big Oidea and what it all means and the discussions thereafter
  16. giggirl has changed her tune: ;-) http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1050699,1050724#msg-1050724
  17. Bioshock Infinite beautiful game and world. Looking forward to the end so I can take part in the discussion around "what it all means" shooting things is getting real old for me PS3 controller is a shocker (see what I did there?)
  18. Carry on as you began greengod http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,545408,545408#msg-545408
  19. 7.30 sound perfectly reasonable to me As for why people take kids to pubs any other time I can only say I love taking my little girl to the pub. And she likes it too. Particularly the actress after nursery on a thu evening Kids who interact with adults in an adult environment learn better and faster IMO. They may not always behave perfectly (I always remove mine immediately if she kicks off) but they do learn to appreciate the mores of adults.
  20. I'll be honest. The 3G signal isn't the best here, it's freezing and not many people have driven up tonight because of this show, and I can't even watch it properly on my phone Not a happy bunny
  21. You look younger than I imagined L
  22. Wouldn't you just go to a petition website and cut and paste 99% of them? Suggesting the crackpot ones can be mined like hold nuggets is giving them too much kudos

    Iain Banks

Nicely out H Or as banks himself put something similar "?Oh, they never lie. They dissemble, evade, prevaricate, confound, confuse, distract, obscure, subtly misrepresent and willfully misunderstand with what often appears to be a positively gleeful relish and are generally perfectly capable of contriving to give one an utterly unambiguous impression of their future course of action while in fact intending to do exactly the opposite, but they never lie. Perish the thought.?
  24. If anyone is locked up in Lousia?s house, it?s not going to be Louisa Day off tomorrow Chillaxed, but your location on the train duly noted for future reference
