  1. was never a fan myself, but I thought that Quietus article was a great read This other article, by Fish himself, is also well worth reading for anyone interested in the economics of touring at his current level http://fishheadsclub.com/2013/01/29/touring/
  2. oh that is a good point Dopmine - either I haven't figured it out or it's a common thing, but I've not been able to restart any of my bluerays from where I stopped And the load times are noticeably longer than DVDs, with all the menu and splash screens and trailers each time you switch back on. It IS a pain, but dangnabit, theyhave me and I won't go back
  3. woody is on a roll these days andit's good to have hime around but the day people start doing what he actually tells them to do? Oy vey baby
  4. Generally I'm not a fan of TVs and players that have proprietary "Smart" technology - I always turn all that stuff off if I can. It can only operate to generic rules which, depending on the source video, can be awful
  5. "I actually threw away my copy of bladerunner" I bet the day you bought that DVD it was like holding some holy grail - "not just a crappy VHS, but pristine DVD! With extras! And a commentary!"
  6. oh goodie, a format war thread. Those are brilli *shoots self in the head* I'm platform agnostic, but have yet to find a phone that does things as well as iOs. And nothing in the pipeline overlooks the (probably correct) rumour about Johnathan Ives overhall of the OS design. The OS is feeling pretty tired and disjointed after a few upgrades An equivalent Android/Windows/whatever phone isn't saving you much in terms of ?? - so I don't quite see how anyone is a fashion victim Drop down a few android levels and you really start to notice screen quality and other problems so top whack will get you a good android/windows/ios phone with best processor and screen. Brand doesn't really come into it But ted with a chip on his shoulder - who knew?
  7. I'd agree the jump isn't as dramatic as from VHS to DVD right up until I start watching a DVD and go "urgh... it's bid muddy this." Sound is better too But you would need a TV of at least 40in to get the benefit of picture improvement
  8. I was going to say something like "helluva fax machine you got there DC"
  9. Huguenot begins with the letter H so does Howard Roark coincidence?
  10. " petty small minded resentment." a phrase which sums up the hypothetical she's predicament Edited for shocking spelling, WTT LadyD
  11. Mrs strafer and straferette went today and were quite vocal in their endorsement
  12. If you have an iPhone would you not have iCloud switched on? In which case all your photos will be safe and sound anyway. You should be able to see them on your pc/Mac If you didn't have it switched on your photos should still be on old phone sim or no sim Ted - stop being so unhelpful
  13. How much are people on payg paying a month these days?
  14. sorry cle - I only picked out one particular point from your post as well. It did just jump out at me tho blackfriars to st pauls is a 5 minute stroll - central line to Oxford St in what... 5-10 minutes after than
  15. you can't actually cross Fleet St (or couldn't earlier) - on foot/bike whatever
  16. "Blackfriars is useless for the West End" in what sense is this true? it's a 15 minute walk to the Strand/Theatreland/Covent Garden You can bus it if you don't fancy walking useless?
  17. of course being rich doesn't solve everything - life is much more complicated than that. (Then again you wouldn't find many rich people swapping voluntarily with their poor counterpart - "what you're complaining about me being rich? come on then let's swap places and see how YOU like it!") I maintain that most of the time nobody bemoans the rich JUST because they are rich. If people start picking on specific rich people there is probably a wider story there. People picking on Cameron say - no he can't help his background, but making the decisions he does.. well it leads to a wider debate. People aren't hating on him just because he is rich
  18. I'm not saying rich people SHOULD be picked on simply for being rich What I'm saying is if rich people have to suffer a few people moaning about them being rich, it's a small price to pay isn't it? You have your riches, your goods, your future sorted. You're in clover. is it fair if people pick on you JUST because you are rich? No it isn't "fair" but it's not likely to bother you ultimately That just doesn't apply if you are poor - if you are poor it's a miserable, daily grind. Throwing a few mean spirited words their way seems nothing like someone grumbling about a rich person. Why would you even compare the two to demonstrate fairness?
  19. "SJ does not agree that fairness needs to apply to the higher earners in the same way as it applies to lower earners. The balance of fairness needs to be struck in the right place and to encourage more entrepreneurship." I meant to address this as well What does that first sentence mean and where does it come from? How are high earners being treated unfairly? Why do I in particular support a different fairness for higher earners? And encouraging entrepreneurship is all well and good, but that just oversupplies an economy that lacks nothing on teh supply side. What's lacking is demand. People aren't spending.
  20. "some rich people may not deserve the stick they get. " If that is the point, can we have some real world examples of which rich people getting what stick? In the given hypothetocal, we have a plucky heroine who I can't see getting any stick for being rich There is a perception that rich people are picked on simply for being rich, but I really don't think that is the case. Even if it was the case, they are rich, they'll get over it
  21. Huguenot logs in [passive aggressive mode] = on "No no no. If you think 'make a difference' is phrased to suggest 'just go with the flow' is somehow saying the former is superior to the latter, it suggests you lack self confidence. Nothing to do with me" Jesus wept
  22. And what's with the "you are not sidelined here" comment I haven't said anything to suggest I am Don't bully boy me with your superior tone buster
  23. Done making an app "makes a difference"? Wow. What does this app do? Make a difference to who? As for going with the flow, don't underestimate the workers. We make things... Work. There needs to be a LOT of us. If you think that's a lesser calling...
  24. That's what you read from what I wrote? Selective
  25. "The SJ thing" Definition in slightly more words?
