  1. I have really enjoyed these brilliant and interesting programmes. London deserves a second series!
  2. so what did you do?
  3. that's right, no original features.
  4. We have just taken the 1950's fireplace off the dining room and found the original large white tiles from the range at the back, encasing the large square hole. Not only that, but at the side is a pile of art nouveau tiles, assume these belong to the fireplace that replaced the range- when cookers came in- but before the 50's gas fire. The owner like me probably couldnt resist hanging onto things and rather than throw them away, left them behind the fireplace just in case. Hoping to reincorporate them back into fireplace somewhere. After all these years we have just knocked the dining room (morning room?)and kitchen into one, the space is huge!Trying to preserve the original spirit though.
  5. if it has totally fallen apart, perhaps you can force it with the cream choc icing mixture into something to contain it like a jelly mould.
  6. Nigella Lawson has a recipe for a chocolate cake that doesnt turn into a disaster if it falls apart. Its her celebration cake. Have not got it to hand, but the icing is what sticks it together. One 100mg bar of darkest chocolate. Heat some cream, not to boiling, double I think, and drop into it the chocolate, chopped into finest bits. Then electric whizz with whisk till you have a thick glutonous chocolate creamy mess. Pour this over the cake, perhaps pushing cake into right shape and filling cracks, it should stick it together. good luck!
  7. afraid I bottled it in the end and drove and didnt drink. But had a brilliant time anyway. look forward to being better connected in december.
  8. Has anyone worked out a good swift public transport link to Stoke Newington - or even Clapton side of it? from ED or PR? Night out tommorow and loth to drive! thanks!
  9. hi Barry, good to hear from you!
  10. brilliant idea, but Forest hill is too far away. I wish you could stick it where Foxtons is!
  11. I'm getting a whitepage big pause when clicking on 'home' and having to refresh to get page to come up.
  12. he's got seating in the back now so you can eat in in comfort.
  13. our fires work fine on smokeless fuel Sayroo.
  14. I'm a member, think it's very good value. Sometimes, friday 8pmish Ive had pool to myself but absolutley avoid chidlrens times if you are after a lane swim, though if you are a child these times are fantastic and well equipped.Membership entitles you to free classes and use of the gymn. I do zumba twice a week and pilates once, my husband has a badminton court once a week, if you use the facilities a lot it works out very cheap. The pool is lovely.
  15. As part of the open house Dulwich thing, the graffiti artist STIK will be painting the garage doors next to ONE BEAUVAL ROAD SE22. Please go and watch! I ve put this in the WHATS ON but as its such short notice hope the admin don't mind me putting it here too.
  16. Moved to Bellenden area 13 years ago and love it. Live equidistant between ED station and PR station but walk back from PR much lighter and busier. Transport brilliant. Shops lovely. Real family area. and the residential streets are really pretty, specially in spring. We've seen a lot of changes/gentrification but in our experience it's always been very nice, and quite arty and eclectic too. Lots of families.
  17. lidl fresh bakery croissants and 'rustic' bread, fantastic and dead cheap.
  18. and his sister is housebound and can't go either. However, when my mother was in this situation we were able to arrange for a carer to accompany her in a paid taxi. It did cost an arm and a leg but she made the ceremony- a wedding in this case, despite being immobile and a bit doolally. I do wish Computershorted the best of luck with finding a good arrangement.
  19. if there was a 'like' button, Computedshorty, I would be pressing it many times.
  20. Silent Witness returns to our telly screens tonight.
  21. I agree with First Mate. The theory of 'dominance' as perpetrated by cesar melan etc is generally accepted as outdated, unhelpful and even dangerous. Replace the word 'pack' with the word ' family' and you get a much closer idea to social relations . Our old labrador that we had when I was a child was incredibly submissive re people, and very aggressive re other dogs. This was because he was screwed up by his previous owners!A lovely dog who was a nightmare on walks and who let the burglars in too.
  22. I live round the corner from Waghorn street and have done so for 12years, after a move from Pimlico. I love it- I find it less intense than East Dulwich, though only a few minutes walk away. Also, of course it was much cheaper, the gardens bigger.(at the time) There aren't estates around this bit either. Just the block on Maxted Road From the East Dulwich forum it seems a lot of mugging hotspots seem to be around the Barry Road area on the east dulwich side, specially near the pubs. Bellenden Road is great. Rye Lane pretty run down and shabby, but the walk back from Peckham Rye station is a lot busier and well lit than the walk back from East Dulwich station at night, , and we are equidistant between the two. I know East Dulwich residents four hundred yards away quake at the idea of venturing into SE15 but this little labyrinth of streets used to be part of East Dulwich until the boundaries changed and really it's not very different except in peoples heads.
  23. i love these posters! i wish i could make them into a sandwich board for my dog to wear.
