I knew somebody would come up with some such sanctimonious bollocks. I was fishing for it in a way, I suppose.

I more or less agree with Otta. Although I think a soundtrack can have songs written specifically for the film (e.g Ghostbusters). I would say that a soundtrack consists of "songs" which may or may not be specially commissioned. A score is written for the film, and the music could be more accurately described as "pieces" than "songs".

The upgrade is the correct reaction to the deal reached by Greece/Eurozone/IMF a couple of weeks ago. And that in turn was a result of political will to make the Euro succeed. It doesn't suddenly make the Euro a roaring success. Although I do really think the Euro has brought many benefits pre-2008, and will probably continue to do so. But there's a clear need for a better mechanism for structuring eurozone debt.

Yep, Infanta de Castilla is apparently another theory!

Remember that B- is still well below investment grade, and one of the lowest credit ratings for any country. i.e. - still hard for Greece to borrow money.

So as I suspected, these free tickets were essentially limited to people who don't have to go to work in the morning. Great.

Yeah it seems that Swiss Cottage and Angel were named after pubs, and I'm sticking with my story about E&C being named after the pub too! Sun In The Sands I guess has become an unofficial one too...

Most source online seem to say it's named after the pub (or coaching inn), so I'm sticking with that. Although of course, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the name of the pub was derived from a local industry.

Have you heard the original score which Kubrick scrapped? It's available on CD... but it's hard to imagine 2001 without the classical soundtrack...

100K doesn't sound like a lot of money to regenerate an area. You can spend more on that on refurbishing a house.

How to see a doctor in East Dulwich
Jeremy replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think you can get same day appointments at DMC by turning up in person 10 mins before opening time, and queueing up. -
woodrot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > kings on the rye...the horror , the horror > > its odd that buses still use kings on the rye as a > named stop innit Elephant & Castle is still called E&C after the pub disappeared (even though there's a newer pub now with the same name). The Angel in Islington ceased to exist around 100 years ago. Probably lots of others.

The > Xmas street event was great. Bellenden Rd is looking great now. I think it struggled for a while to attract/retain a good mix of businesses, but places like The Begging Bowl and Victoria Inn have really brought it up a notch. No doubt in a few years time, people will be reminiscing about how it used to be in its heyday.

Small businesses often go under, even during good times... and these are not particularly good times by any means. And bear in mind that at least two of the businesses mentioned in the OP closed for personal rather than financial reasons. The loss of G&B is a shame, but the shop part sold expensive products that most of us would only buy for a gift or a special treat. The bar/cafe side of it had a nice feel to it, but they clearly struggled to attract enough customers.

Not so long ago I was in the Man of Kent in Nunhead with another forumite. Wasn't scary, but glasses of Malbec or skin-on chips with aioli were very much off the agenda. Certainly rougher round the edges than The Castle.

No luck with the "escorting" business, so decided to explore your options?

fatcats is right, the best way to meet people is via some sort of activity. As well as sports and book clubs, you could try one the local choirs (they sing show tunes and stuff, sounds like it may be up your street). There's a local baking club called the Band Of Bakers, which is apparently very sociable and fairly 'young'. If you like the idea of getting/keeping fit, you could try British military fitness.

Calzaghe won it, he was in Vegas at the time (watching Hatton get battered by Mayweather, I think). Although he wouldn't have stood a chance against the 2012 bunch.

I agree with SJ, people's views can change, especially over the span of a couple of generations. If it's at all possible for any good to come out of this, hopefully a lot of people will start to question the wisdom of gun ownership.

I would be totally in favour of a pardon, but for everybody who was prosecuted for homosexuality in the UK. He was of course a brilliant mathematician. His contributions to winning the war were huge, and his influence on modern technology is immeasurable. But I really think this is a separate issue. He shouldn't be pardoned because of what he achieved, he should be pardoned because of a deeply unjust law and inhumane punishment.

Alan - logically you are right, but unfortunately some people see the proliferation of firearms as the answer.

I'll miss it. I didn't go there that often, as most of the wine I buy tends to be cheap and cheerful. But it was the perfect place to buy presents for wine loving friends/relatives, and a nice space for a glass of wine and a bite to eat occasionally. And it was one of the unique businesses that differentiates us from other parts of London.

StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > if I was carrying stolen cards, telling people > where I was travelling from and to wouldn't be a > good idea Nah, banks are not interested in catching perpetrators of petty card theft or fraud. Police are even less interested.

I think I'm speaking for everyone except property investors or people who are planning to leave. If you're not going to leave the area, you're either planning to keep your flat, or trade up. In the first scenario your profit is not realised, in the second scenario you would be worse off. Not to mention the people who grew up here and would like to stay. Or people who are renting and would like to buy. So the gentrification process is all well and good, but the associated rise in property prices only benefit the minority.
