  1. There's very little audience out there for original live music. However, Brixton is close and has a couple of good venues. As Otta says, you can occasionally see stuff in Herne Hill or Forest Hill. Saying that, if you like Folk, then The Goose put on quite a few gigs locally.
  2. There were no trains on Saturday either. Real shame that we can't be provided with reasonable public transport on the weekends.
  3. The Super Furry Animials live in West Dulwich?
  4. To repeat my question - why should historical boundries be considered more relevant than modern ones?
  5. Selfridges Express / Harrods Simply Food.
  6. edhistory, e-dealer... do you not accept that borders and boundaries change over time? Why are historical boundries more relevant than modern ones? Do you still that Dulwich is still in Surrey?

    random stuff

Just a regular guy taking his dog out for a walk, right? Wrong. Very wrong. The dog is more than just this man's best friend.
  8. Sorry to revisit this old thread, by I do get annoyed by people who take advantage of the good nature of others. Recently I spotted somebody who was asking for free furniture for their new flat. The line went something like "I just about managed to save enough money to buy my first flat, but I can't afford any furniture, please help". A few weeks later they were advertising a furnished flat for rent.
  9. Not an obvious mismatch, no. But nevertheless, a fight which was possibly made for the wrong reasons, and which attracted a large audience because of a big name.
  10. You don't have to agree with everything James B says or does (I know I don't), but some of the abuse dished out to him on here is completely out of order.

    Great Gigs

It's up to them, isn't it? Why on earth should they retire, when they clearly still enjoy playing, and there's still a huge audience of all ages.
  12. KK - yeah I'm sure that the money was one of the motivations. But unfortunately boxing is dominated by money these days... it's how matches get made. It's the reason we get served up guff like Harrison/Haye, Hopkins/Jones jr 2, Calzaghe/Manfredo. I don't think the Hatton comeback stinks anywhere near as much as those three.

    Great Gigs

I don't understand why the tickets are so expensive. Surely they already have more money than they know what to do with.
  14. The developer of the flats opposite the station wanted a coffee shop on the ground floor, even including one in their sales brochure (complete with starbucks-style logo). After 1yr+ standing empty, they ended up with an estate agent!
  15. Actually I was thinking about a different gallery... one that's a leeetle bit more established...
  16. I can't think of any reason to visit Dulwich Village, except for the gallery. It's a picturesque spot (by London standards), but absolutely nothing there.
  17. I was only listening to it on five live, but it sounded like his punches were missing the target more often than not, and he was getting caught with shots that the old Hatton would have slipped (not that he was ever the slickest mover). I guess after 3+ years out of the ring, he lost his instincts... the timing, judging the distances, etc.
  18. You did good, Pebbles. London would be a safer place if everybody rushed out when they heard a cry for help. If she said that she's fine and doesn't want help, then I don't see what more you can do.

  20. I would say that a pub is basically a more traditional environment. Draft beer (ale as well as lager) is essential. Pubs don't do cocktails. TVs showing sports, pool tables, dart boards, fruit machines, newspapers and board games are all things you may find in a pub, but not in a bar. The availability of peanuts, pork scratchings, and scampi fries are also good indicators. Usually open during the day. Food, if available, is likely to include English classics including fish and chips, pie and mash, and sunday roasts. A bar would usually have more modern decor. Possibly a greater proportion of standing vs seated space. More of a "nightlife" sort of place... may not even be open during the day. People would get a bit more dressed up, and the music may possibly be louder. There may be a cocktail list. Bottled lagers. Ale on tap would probably not be the norm. Meals are not usually available, but if they are, would be likely to have more exotic aspirations.

  22. I used them for all the carpet and wood in my current place, and also a couple of rooms in my last place. I'd probably use them again for carpet, but for the wood flooring, the price was quite high and I had to call them back to fix a few problems.
  23. I often have trouble sleeping, but it's usually because of sleep anxiety... worrying about not being able to sleep, and how tired I'm going to be tomorrow, etc. Perhaps things like the kidney bean method act like a sort of placebo - i.e. you're much more relaxed because you think you're going to sleep well.
  24. I don't agree with the "wait in line like everybody else" comment. When cyclists have room to negotiate their way through queues of traffic, then why not do it? As long as they're careful not to find themselves on the inside of a bus/truck/van while it's turning. The main problem I have is the denial that reckless cycling is a danger to other road users - not just pedestrians and cyclists, but yes, drivers too.
  25. Thanks for that.
