  1. Is it a Fiat?
  2. Can't really disagree with any of that, Dave.
  3. We can always rely on woody to remind us how shallow and futile we all are.
  4. Nice balanced post there, Huguenot! To state the obvious once again: some motorists drive like idiots, not all of them. Some cyclists ride like idiots, not all of them. I fundamentally disagree with the idea that because cyclists are only putting themselves at risk, they shouldn't be criticised. First of all because it assumes that non-cyclists don't care about the safety of cyclists. Secondly because it's not actually true. Any rational person would realise that it is the responsibility of all road users (motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians) to act responsibly.
  5. 100
  6. Not convinced about tax and insurance. I think some sort of licence would be a good idea though, to ensure basic training has been completed, and as a means of banning repeat offenders.
  7. I think better infrastructure for cyclists is key. There's no point having cycle lanes if they're going to abruptly end at critical points. And shared cycle/bus lanes just don't seem like a good idea. maxxi's right that there are a lot of ignorant selfish drivers on the road - London is full of them. But at the same time, almost every day I see a cyclist do something crazy, and I can't help thinking that they're going to end up seriously hurt.

    The BBC

Who made the BBC our judge, jury, and executioner? Why should they be investigating reported crimes, then broadcasting their findings on national TV? This goes way beyond "investigative journalism". As far as I'm concerned, both the Jimmy Saville and Lord MacAlpine cases should have been police matters.
  9. Kind of a cross between Tom Daley and The Karate Kid.
  10. Overall I probably prefer the "feel" of Dulwich, but Clapham has things going for it. Much better transport, events on Clapham Common, livelier nightlife, bigger houses, nicer architecture (in places), much bigger selection of shops and restaurants. On the downside, Clapham has quite a scruffy high street and an abundance of annoying wannabe toffs.
  11. Your iphone and mac are both connected to the same gmail account, right? Why not delete one, log onto gmail through a browser, and check whether it's still there?
  12. Shock horror, young families getting priced out of more desirable areas, etc. Is this really news to anybody at all??
  13. Glue broken shards of glass to your hands, and fight "the ancient way".
  14. I can't believe anything could ever be so bad that it would be improved with the addition of Kula Shaker. As Mr Ben says, repaint it. Another weekend down the drain, but worth it in the long run.
  15. I thought the subject of the thread was the name of the Radio 4 show. Not a cue for people to say in no uncertain terms that their marriage will not work. I'm sure it does place an insurmountable strain on most relationships, but that doesn't mean it's impossible, or that they shouldn't try. Despite the prejudice and animosity they will unfortunately encounter now and again.
  16. silverfox, I thought your post was incredibly spiteful towards the OP.
  17. Gidget, we are under no obligation to reach a formal agreement on this.
  18. No problem really, but as far as I can tell, fairy cake is English/British. Cup cake is American. As for the decorating... well I guess icing is a defining feature of a cup/fairy cake, right? But yeah, as long as it tastes good I'll happily eat one. Or three.
  19. If you let them out around the house they will gnaw at EVERYTHING, including cables.
  20. The cakes themselves are generally fine. I like cake a lot. But it's a temporary fad which reached saturation point long ago. And the word itself is an annoying Americanism which somehow worked it's way into the english vernacular. I expect it will all die down next year, along with "keep calm and" merchandise.
  21. I know GPs are privately managed, that is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Even if services are fulfilled by private companies, the government should be ensuring that they are capable of delivering an acceptable level of service.
  22. I don't really believe in private healthcare either, and have received frankly brilliant service from the NHS for most of my life. But when both of the local medical practises I've tried have become completely dysfunctional, it does start to feel like the system isn't really working.
  23. Saila Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > He used to play electric guitar in the garden (2am) Hosepipe should sort that out.
  24. Why not just get a PC with a large monitor? Then you can you that for watching TV/movies, listening to music, and all the usual stuff too.
