  1. It's pretty pathetic how people seem to want to pin the blame on somebody, for a situation which they really know very little about. None of us knew this woman, or what might have been going on in her mind in the days and hours leading up to her suicide. You can't just blame people for a woman's death based on guesswork and hunches, it's a really stupid thing to do. Yes, the stunt could have been prevented by various people in the chain of command - in both the radio station and the hospital. Not to mention the global media who gave such coverage to a juvenile non-story. But none of these people could have possibly predicted this tragic outcome.
  2. Not a great lover a company work dos. Too much schmoozing. Although there was a funny incident a few years ago, when someone went back to the office and took a shit in reception.
  3. It was far from the worst hoax call in the history of broadcasting. The two DJs could never have known this would happen, it's totally wrong to blame them, however idiotic they may be.

  5. Yes I know that. I'm saying that they are different crimes and should not be considered equivalent.
  6. I think people are absolutely right to be angry about companies not paying their tax. But I hope these people also never pay a trademan cash-in-hand.
  7. To play devil's advocate for a minute, why do we need local live music? What's wrong with travelling to Brixton, Camden, or Shoreditch to go and see a band?
  8. I agree with Fabricio, "different times back then", "it was the 70s", etc, cannot reasonably be used as a defence. Sexual abuse has never been OK. But we need to remember that we have already had one false accusation of a public figure, and it won't be the last. We also need to bear in mind (as others have said) that morally, there is a world of difference between consensual sex with a 15 year old, and assault of a helpless young child.
  9. Right, with you. Search function is useful.
  10. Think you might want to fix that first line, EP...
  11. I agree that buying an ipad just for garageband is a bit OTT... unless you wanted one anyway and just need that extra excuse. I'd just get something like this : http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/tascam-us-122-mkii--67856 Which comes bundled with a basic version of Cubase, and will give you everything you need to record guitar and vocals, and program some basic drums/bass/synth/etc.

I actually had some music on a TV show once. Only a one-off, though. It paid for two band practises. #livingthedream
  13. The ipad could be worth going for if you really need something portable. But if you have a PC, you can get an audio interface bundled with an entry level version of Cubase for around ?100. And you'll get better results.

  15. True, there is LOADS of money to be made in music these days.
  16. Well, ?401.99 well spent...
  17. I think there's quite a high probability that he still lives with his mum.

Right.... Quite. Time taken to take a photo of someone using your iphone? 5-10 secs if you react quickly. Chance of getting a kicking? Quite high.
  19. I have absolutely no problem with billionaires as long as they pay their tax.
  20. KK... I wouldn't use the 'L' word round these parts if I were you. The Great Exhibition doesn't really meet my idea of live music either. The problem is that if you're going to have live music in the main area of a pub, it needs to be something fairly middle-of-the-road so as not to put people off.
  21. I don't agree, Otta. Just because legal loopholes exist, doesn't mean it's morally OK to exploit them. Saying that, I reckon almost all large companies do questionable things in the name of tax "efficiency", and I agree that the only way of stopping it is to tighten up the law. Pulic outrage is short lived.
  22. I stand corrected. As a young couple expecting a baby, I wish them well and hope everything turns out OK. But that doesn't mean I'm remotely interested in the royals. In fact I find their resurgent popularity rather baffling.
  23. How many other pregnant women get taken into hospital for several days because of morning sickness? I hope they're paying for it.
  24. Sorry, The Goose is a local folk music collective. http://www.thegooseisout.com/ I think upstairs at the EDT is just used for private hire.
  25. It depends on your individual circumstances, and what sort of journey you're doing. Some people get by fine without a car, others might struggle. I wouldn't claim that the lack of weekend trains forces us into the car, but it certainly doesn't give us a reason to get rid of it.
