  2. It will certainly take you to a few places off the usual tourist trail...

    Advice :(

I used to know somebody who was a compulsive liar. It didn't make them a bad person, I considered it to be a disorder of sorts. But of course, that's totally different to being in a relationship with someone. You need to talk about it with him, he obviously has a behavioural problem (maybe - but not necessarily - psychiatric illness) which needs rectifying one way or another. If he loves you and understands how you feel, he'll agree that he needs to change. Otherwise... see the above comments.
  4. I would usually only recommend the bus as a last resort, but sandyman's suggestion sounds sensible, because when you have luggage, you really want as few changes as possible. And I imagine the 176 should be fairly quiet at that sort of time.

  6. My initial reaction was along the lines of why would a woman want to work for an organisation where they weren't wanted. But actually it seems that the council DID want female bishops, by a vote of 324 to 122. So how does that work? What sort of system is that? eco 79 - I think you'll find that "lady rabbi" is sexist, the correct term is "rabette".

  8. Ah, yes. Fresh veg is too expensive, so they buy mars bars and chips instead.
  9. What's the one on Maxted Rd like? Anyone tried it?
  10. littlelau - no I don't have a dog. But I do quite like them, usually. I did read all of your 9:38PM post, but didn't actually see the previous post. That post (taken in isolation) to me sounded as though you were advocating walking dogs off the lead generally. That is why my response was a little aggressive. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
  11. Motorists need to realise we should give cyclists *more* space than for cars, not less. However, some cyclists just seem to be ultra defensive no matter what. This morning I was driving behind a cyclist... not enough room to pass safely, so I stayed behind him until it was safe to pass. At which point he deliberately slowed down to walking pace, and turned round and started shouting at me! So frustrating, because a lot of drivers would have tried to overtake.
  12. Dogs off lead in the park - fine. Dogs off lead on the street - selfish. You have to respect the fact that not everyone likes dogs. I apologise for any misunderstanding, but to me your post was not clear.
  13. littlelau - I think walking your dog off the lead is rather selfish. All animals are unpredictable to a certain extent, and a dog like a staffie is capable of causing very serious injury. You also have to take into account the feelings of people who may not particularly like dogs, and would be intimidated by a bull breed dog not on a lead. There is really no excuse for this behaviour, it's pure self indulgence.
  14. The problem with buses is not just the journey time, but also the waiting time and the overall unpredictablilty.
  15. Interesting to see that a "Crossrail 2" north-south link is under discussion. Will it come to SE London? Will it fuck. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/4572e4d4-a11e-11e1-9fbd-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2COGrpYz2

    Dubstep

The Skrillex thing sounded like a 90s computer game, interspersed with extreme/mangled sections. The Ruffhouse thing was far too minimalist for me to enjoy, but at least I didn't find it annoying. As Bob was saying, I couldn't really detect anything in common apart from the half-time drums.
  17. Libaries... I think the emphasis should be on modernising the library system, not just creating more of the same. I don't personally think there's a long term future for the conventional format of a large building stacked with books. It seems sad, but printed text will soon become obosolete.
  18. So we're allowed fireworks later into the night for Chinese New Year and Diwali than we are for Guy Fawkes Night... PC gawn mad, I tell you!
  19. Is this whole thread one big joke? Has my irony decetor been failing me?

    Dubstep

Each to their own... you can't really say that one sort of music is intrinsically better than another (except for all that X-factor shit, of course). I've just never been into dance music of any variety, really.
  21. Mine.

    Dubstep

I honestly don't think I've ever heard any dubstep.
  23. I use the word frequently, but usually as an intentional exaggeration. For example - that guitar solo was a disgrace. That fake jager has left me with a disgraceful hangover.
  24. There aren't many houses on the market right now, so maybe they're just trying their luck. But basically, ridiculous over-valuing by the estate agent, coupled with a greedy vendor.
  25. You can't pretend to be anarchists, and then release pop singles on EMI. Hypocritical bullshit.
