  1. e-dealer, I hope for your sake that you don't own an Oyster card, credit card, or mobile phone! [ Need to be careful... I've been accused of bullying for less than this... no offence meant, e-dealer, just teasing... not bullying... light punch on shoulder, etc... ]

But I realise that and am comfortable with myself. Which is clearly better than acting like a wally, desperately trying to convince other people how cool you, your music, your clothes, and your friends are.

    New Band

Sounds a bit like my band...
  4. Maybe, maybe not. Who cares. Always fun to wind up the royalists, though.
  5. So you're telling me that an electronic device actually keeps some sort of record (almost like a "memory") of previous operation? Ho - ly - shit...
  6. Copper Blue... now there's kick ass record! UDT cares about what is cool and likes to associate himself with cool people/clothes/music. I don't give a toss about what's cool. But the one thing that we almost certainly have in common is that we are both, quite clearly, hopelessly uncool.
  7. Diana met Hewitt after Harry was born? Of course. Harry looks like Charles? Ah yes, I see it now. Thanks for setting us straight, njc!!
  8. I dunno... perhaps they like big shops, tall buildings, man made beaches, indoor skiing, and the ciniplex.
  9. "Crap" works well both sides of the Atlantic.
  10. Read the bloody thread! The application has been withdrawn!
  11. I don't really mind eating in scruffy places if the food is good and the price is right. Seems like they just need to keep the dog out of the restaurant.
  12. UDT, posts like that are the reason for 'the thread that was deleted'. If you reigned it in a little, we'd all get along so much better!
  13. maxxi, I'm going to stick up for UDT here... I think you misinterpreted his last post.
  14. Erm... no! Maybe 6 weeks rent as a security deposit, one months rent up front, and a smattering of various "fees". Mind you, depends how expensive your flat is. If you'll be paying ?2,500 a month, then maybe...
  15. I guess people have different definitions. Some people would describe any commercially succesful music as "commercial". If we're saying that commercial music is the stuff which is cynically produced to sell units, with little regard for artistic merit or integrity, then I'd be happy with that definition. And in which case, I don't listen to commercial music either!
  16. Well said, KK. Me too.
  17. Most amateur (originals) bands lose money hand over fist! Even if a gig is well attended, you're lucky if you can cover one rehearsal and your petrol. Even at the level above the amateur pub/club band - bands who can pull in crowds of a couple of hundred nationally and release material on a decent underground label - there are plenty in that bracket who are happy working a day job, and doing the band as a hobby. It's not really pretentious, sometimes it's a lifestyle choice, or an acceptance that the genre you play will probably not have mainstream appeal.

El Pibe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I can't see why anyone would get into making music > without aspirations of commercial success, to do > so would smack of the worst sort of > pretentiousness. I don't really agree with that. Making music is a pleasure in itself. And there's a big difference between not really seeking commercial success, and actively avoiding it.
  19. Who cares what the guy does in his own private time. He's young, single, and wasn't breaking the law. Although he does look a lot more like James Hewitt than Charles...
  20. Pibe, for me, I think commercial means either commerically successful, or created with aspirations of commerical success. I've never understood why people actively avoid commercial music, but plenty of people do. In fact, there are many out there whose stance is so hardcore, they make UDT look like a Take That fan (i.e. the lads who beat up Jello Biafra in Berkeley for being a "sell-out"). Although I do think it's a shame that so many people just listen to mainstream stuff, without exploring what else is out there.
  21. The Brothers Johnson were commercial/mainstream in my book. They were on a major label, had chart success, and made music which fitted in with the fashion of the time. I'm sure they made a tidy sum of money.
  22. I am most definitely style challenged! But not really too bothered by the fact. I don't think soul music's crap or pretentious though. I really like a lot of the northern soul stuff (not really a fan of disco or all that 70s club soul stuff though).
  23. rahrahrah, while I agree that transport in SE London is bad, I would argue that crossrail, connecting the airport with major centres such as the west end/city/canary wharf is also a very important project. I really doubt the tube will be extended into SE London in my lifetime.

    BBQ Meat?

You could try this guy: http://www.markymarket.com/MarkyMarket/home.html Although I'm not sure if it will work out cheaper than the butcher or not.
