Also because the Olympics isn't the pinnale of the tennis calendar, unlike most other sports at the Olympics. So I guess he doesn't get as worked up as he usually does.
  2. The injury thing makes a certain amount of sense. Although obviously among judo/taekwondo black belts there can be a huge disparity in power and skill. How about ice skating in the winter olympics? Didn't Torvill and Dean have to stop competing because they wanted to tour and earn money?
  3. Huguenot/DJKQ - UK includes Northern Ireland, therefore surely our team should be called UK?
  4. I've always been confused about the boxers too. If we can have Ryan Giggs and Andy Murray representing us, why not Amir Khan and Carl Froch? Track-and-field athletes are also professional sportspeople (appearance fees plus prize money at competitions). I realise that the regulations and scoring are very different for amateur vs pro boxing, but any boxer with a decent workrate would easily re-adapt.
  5. Not sure I'd lump Nunhead in with Wandsworth/Clapham/ED in the gamut of gentrified South London suburbs. Let's be honest, it is a bit of a scruffy area with not many facilities (does it even have a restaurant?). Sure, it does appear to be on the up, but it's early days.
  6. Nope, sounds like a torx head (common on electrical equipment)...
  7. Pies. Now we're talking.
  8. Strategic alliance? Pigeon style to planning? UDT, you really are a special case! I just wanted to know the reason dwhite conducted his "detailed and in depth investigation for a case study". The use of this language would imply some sort of professional/legal, or perhaps academic involvement. He declined to answer.

  10. Great photos, Chick. But times change, technonolgy becomes redundant eventually. The fact that all that stuff has stayed in use until now speaks volumes about its quality. I don't agree with you about shortwave vs internet though. Who owns a shortwave receiver these days? Certainly not me!
  11. One good argument against a shop selling dope smoking paraphernalia - we're not seventeen anymore.
  12. I think Nunhead has already seen moves towards gentrification. There are obviously new residents who are fairly affluent (i.e. good income but can't afford a 600K house). Businesses are springing up to cater to that demographic, houses are being renovated, etc.
  13. I seem to remember reading that the tweet was something like "you let your dad down" (his father died last year). Nasty and spiteful, but not threatening. Not sure how it's illegal. Unfortunately if celebrities want to use social media, they are going to have to learn to ignore the idiots.
  14. Chillaxed, everything he's posted this year has obviously been a pisstake/windup of some sort, so not really worth engaging with him any further.
  15. Surely after declaring that you've conducted an in-depth investigation for a case study, it's not a strange question to ask what motivated you to conduct such a study. It seems only natural to assume you have had a professional or personal connection to the house. I don't have an agenda (other than to see a derelict building restored). I'm not the one who's spent a chunk of my life researching the subject!
  16. What's your agenda, dwhite?
  17. I had quite a few matches, including a female sailor from Poland. Ms B, fancy a swap?
  18. Most people don't mind a party, but it's different if the loud music plays from midnight to 3pm the next day. Longboy, I realise that you just come on here to wind people up, but nevertheless, you come across as a complete idiot.
  19. Felt really bad for him, after all he's been through - they gave it a good go, but at the end of the day they didn't do the business. But don't forget that we still have the individual competition to go. I don't think he's overhyped, he's obviously one of the top guys, but that doesn't mean he's nailed on for a medal.
  20. In fact it's so quiet, it's almost reminiscent of the Christmas period. I guess a lot of people have taken time off work, due to the combination of the olympics and the school holidays.

Yesterday evening was much quieter than normal, as was this morning (both nat rail and tube). Plenty of volunteers on hand telling bemused commuters which way to go.
  22. Dave and maxxi are talking about gravy. You can put mashed garlic and veg in it, add wine if you like, but it's still gravy. Gravy is a given with a roast, so we should assume that the OP is looking for a condiment to use in addition to the gravy. I'd go for the redcurrant or cranberry - or nette's quince jelly sounds nice too.
  23. Objecting on this forum won't do any good at all unless you are also sending your objections to the council.
