  1. Cheap popcorn. Cheap tickets. Art-house films, foreign film, kids films, family films, classics, as well as the usual big releases. Showings at 7:30pm (none of this two-screenings-a-night nonsense). Big, comfortable seats. Immaculate housekeeping. A location in central East Dulwich. Sounds great for everyone, except for the poor bastard who's investing his cash.
  2. So Denmark Hill is losing the Victoria-London Bridge route, and possible the Blackfriars route too. Where exactly will you be able to travel to from Denmark Hill? Canada Water and Clapham Junction? Whoop-de-doo.
  3. Chisora had Haye worried for a while! But Haye was too fast, too accurate, and too heavy-handed for Chisora to live with. Time for Khan to step back and re-evaluate his standing in world boxing? Does he really belong in the top 4/5 of the LWW division? Maybe it's time to take on some of his domestic rivals around his weight class (Ricky Burns, Kell Brook, Gavin Rees, etc) and re-establish himself.
  4. Chisora is probably Haye's toughest opponent apart from Wlad. I think he'll put up a better fight that Barret/Ruiz/Mormeck. But I'm still going to Haye by TKO. Will probably be at the MOK later tonight with Otta...
  5. Come on, it's not fair to pick on a guy who never had much got in touch with his father.

Judaism claims to span back for 3000 years or so, I don't see why "prehistoric" should be taken as an insult. People can believe what they want as far as I'm concerned, but children shouldn't be indoctrinated into these things without being given the opportunity to make their own decisions. That, to my thinking, is a far bigger injustice than circumcision.
  7. The Fenwick Road houses have the same problem as the ones on Barry Rd - plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, but not enough living space. At least the Barry Rd ones were realistically priced though.
  8. I'm also against imposition of religious views on the young. However, two points: - circumcision is not really a big deal, the impact on the child's life is small in comparison to the indoctrination into a prehistoric belief system. - The holocaust comparison is incredibly stupid.
  9. DC, you're right that of course I'd like to see decent living standards for everyone, but I'm generally more in favour of facilitating the means for people to attain it (including minimum wage and decent education), rather than providing it directly. I've never really considered myself to be conservative (with either a small or large c), in fact I think in some respects you're more c©onservative than me, e.g. advocating high military spending.
  10. Back when I passed my test (north London in the mid ninties), my instructor actually recommended going for a busy period because I'd be guaranteed to spend the majority of the test sat still in traffic.
  11. I'm not in favour of putting down animals with no history of violence. But I still don't understand why people want to own these bull breeds.
  12. I'd be happy to see the tail end of the vulgar language. I'm sure there is a relevant claws in the forum terms of use.

    random stuff

1993. Brian Sutherland from South Carolina described himself as an "undefeated street-fighter". He figured since he was such a tough guy, he may as well get paid for something he was apprently so good at. So, proudly sporting a mullet haircut, a thick moustache, and a pot-belly, he stepped into the boxing ring against Liverpool's Kenny Rainford. At the start of the first round, Sutherland rushed towards his opponent, throwing a wild flurry of slaps and overhead punches, leaving the commentators in fits of laughter. His opponent, clearly puzzled by such tactics, resorted to simply pushing Sutherland away. After one minute Rainford had seen enough, and hit Sutherland clean on the chin. Sutherland spun round and crumpled onto the canvas. Putting an end to surely the worst pro-boxing career ever.

  15. cosmonaut, I think you're onto something there. I understand that Peckham is the focus of a certain amount of regeneration, so I don't see why the cinema shouldn't be part of that. Rye Lane isn't exactly much of an evening destination at the moment, but I think it is improving.
  16. I really don't see why the ED-LB train service should be impacted that much. Although LB station itself will probably be carnage.
  17. You missed out the other standard answer. A3; Scrap Trident/Olympics/Royal Family.
  18. I've got a feline that we haven't heard the last of Lishyloo.
  19. Here's an idea - borrow a turntable off someone, hook it up to your digital four-track recorder thing, and then burn the resulting MP3s onto a CD. (You would have to play around with the EQ though, as the signal which comes directly from a turntable is treble-heavy).

  21. Yeah, the problem is that it's such a slow, laborious, and boring process... digitising the stuff in real time, and then separating and tagging the tracks. You'll probably spend longer converting and cataloguing the tracks than you'll spend listening to them.

  23. I'd like to think that it's possible. But considering the transport links, it would have to rely mainly on local customers. And I gather that rent round here is fairly expensive, so pricing will be a delicate balance. It sounds quite risky.
  24. A few people on here promising they'll go regularly doesn't necessarily equate to a solid business model.
  25. But rising property prices harm the community - they only really benefit investors, or people who plan to leave. I'm not naive, and more financially/economically aware than most, but I find it a little unsavoury when house prices are discussed in such a cold manner, littered with faux-business jargon.
