M&S do some decent beers.. I particularly like the Black IPA.

Looks like the upstairs restaurant at John the Unicorn hit a brick wall. The chef (ex-Opera Tavern) is moving on. TBH while the food was great, it wasn't really working... never seemed busy, really weird d?cor and furnishings, and possibly the wrong location. Will be interesting to see whether they carry on down the "posh food" route, or try something else.

How utterly childish. Not really childish. A trivial amount of effort to view someone's posting history, to illustrate the point (which should be obvious) that different people like to discuss different things...

Agree with the sentiment that Nunhead doesn't need another "trendy" pub/bar, but I think the Man of Kent could use a bit of TLC. It's possible to make a place pleasant and comfortable without going full-on seasonal sharing plates and ironic furnishings.

Had some pork chops from Asda once... absolutely horrible. Watery, bland, nasty texture. Will never buy meat there again.

Deliveroo: please keep your cyclists safe

As long as the load is centrally balanced, should be fine. Not excusing the reckless cycling of course. -

But I'm OK with M&S too. Iceland... I stand by my opinion that they specialise in revolting, nasty, processed rubbish - however I do concede that they are cheap and do sell some actual proper food too.

The meat (especially steak) is definitely better than Tesco, Sainsbury's, etc. It will come in handy when the butcher is shut. Fruit tends to be pretty good too.

Because maybe modernisation is a more worthwhile long term aim than caving into union demands?

But yeah, I agree that a few people are bound to rock up in their cars for a larger shop.

Dulwich Park Cafe change of owners.

I got a cheeseburger for myself (limp and grey, with sachets of dubious brand condiments), and a "children's pasta" (fusilli with frozen mixed veg) for my daughter. It was cheap, I suppose. -

The M&S at Moorgate - much larger than ED - has only 2 manned tills. Much of the time only one of those is open. They seem to manage OK. As long as there is someone on hand to "approve" your booze purchases, then I don't see the problem. It underlines the fact that they expect people to go for "basket" shops... occasional items for individual meals rather than large/weekly shops.

I'm too young to remember the 70s... I'm a child of the 80s really. Don't remember much in the 80s or 90s which could stand up the best stuff around today. Apart from sitcoms maybe (which seemed to have their heyday in the 90s with stuff like Seinfeld and Frasier). But dramas... not really. Maybe Twin Peaks..

I'm thinking of the (mainly imported) on-demand stuff on Netflix/Amazon - if you consider that to be "TV". All the obvious stuff... House of Cards, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, etc etc. Far better than anything I remember from when I was growing up. If we're talking specifically about free-to-air broadcast TV, then I almost never watch it these days.

Surely nobody is really surprised by it's popularity. The place was a nailed-on success. I do get a bit tired of the grouchy anti-child nonsense on here. Kids in the supermarket - during the school holidays! How dare they!

Thanks BNG... was more of a rhetorical question but I appreciate your response anyway. The cynics amongst us are not optimistic about the full service ever being reinstated.

Thinking of Moving to Pytchley Road - East Dulwich Estate?
Jeremy replied to DVMummy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not lived on the estate, but used to live round the corner on Ivanhoe Rd and walked through it every day. Didn't have any problems. It's a very, very convenient location with three stations within walking distance. Saying that, you need to be realistic.. it's densely populated and you're probably going to come across minor annoyances (kids revving scooters, people pumping out crap music) a bit more often than you would otherwise. -
When do we get the 6 train per hour service reinstated, rather than the 4 train per hour service, which was supposed to be an interim measure during the London Bridge works...
-
Well... I wasn't familiar with them. Maybe not something I'd normally listen to, but I thought it was pretty cool.

There was one v hot night when I couldn't really sleep (maybe Wednesday?) but apart from that it's fine. Shame we had to wait until the end of the summer for some sunny weather.

Can anybody recommend a mobile scratch repair service? Preferably one who works on weekends. Could really do without the hassle of taking the car into a body shop.

Actually ended up getting F&C from Roses, and it was good. Huge bit of fish, plump and flaky, lovely crisp batter. Chips were not as golden and crispy as I like, but fine. Tbh one fish and small chips plenty of food for two people.
