  2. A road in Peckham with a couple of OK shops does not equate to a village.
  3. Hahaha, the Italians don't eat pizza! Only pizzeria in Rome is a Pizza Hut! This is brilliant.

A lot of banks are telling staff to get in early, bring lunch with them, and not leave until the evening. I think RBS will actually be completely locking it's doors. I think it's right that people are making noises, because some of the banks have a lot to answer for. But I am slightly concerned that there are people who don't have the capacity to distinguish between the decision makers, and the majority of staff who are just keeping their heads down and doing their jobs. (As well as the usual low-life who are intent on pushing their minority views, yet are still content to reap the benefits of a developed economy).
  6. I think it's very entertaining... all these delulded 25 year old salesmen, who think they're business tycoons, talking about their "management styles", etc. If any of them were half as talented as they believed they were, they wouldn't be bending over backwards for a 100k job working for Alan Sugar in some Essex backwater.

  8. Wonder what made you drag up this old thread? I agree to an extent, of course it makes sense to convert some houses into flats, in accordance with demand in the area. But I am not convinced that the need for houses is declining, particularly not in this area. And your comment about parking is rather naive... I'm sure the government are happy for people to move away from cars, but plenty of people still seem attached to their cars (I wouldn't give mine up).
  9. Superb post, Louisa!! Now pizza is "a class thing"! I don't think anyone is claiming that it's haute cuisine, but it is an ideal accompaniment to a couple of pints IMO. Simple and quite tasty... not too stodgy but substantial enough to soak up the booze.

I don't trust our fragile-looking security guys to keep any protestors out of the building. Perhaps I'll bring a disguise with me - so if things go pear shaped, I can join in and start trashing stuff too.
  12. I heard that red squirreles were starting to return in places... something to do with a disease which is deadly to the greys, but the reds are immune to.
  13. Being fit and healthy is not necessarily related to body image. It's also incorrect to suggest that gardening can have equivalent benefits to an hour of intensive exercise.

I think it's just the name of the station rather than an actual area... but people often describe an area by the name of the closest station (at least they do in London). I don't think there's any snobbery at play. Bellenden Village, on the other hand, is basically just estate agent language for Peckham.

I agree, it was a bit of a strange comment. A shop selling imported groceries will, almost by definition, mainly be selling food which is tinned, frozen, preserved, etc. There's plenty of other places for the Poles to buy fresh veg and meat.

I don't entirely agree actually, I don't think they make much money on the console itself. ?150 or whatever for a fairly sophisticated bit of kit is a bargain... half the price of a basic PC, similar price to an ipod, etc. So I would expect to pay extra for subsequent services. Although I agree that ?40 a year sounds like quite a lot.
  18. One of my favorite mods is this mini Commodore 64: www.picobay.com/projects/2007/01/picodore-64-commodore-64-pda.html Sometimes I wish I had the time to have a go at one of these. But it would probably turn out crap.

  21. I don't think many (any?) people are disagreeing that it's tragic. Nobody wants to see a young person die long before their time... and leaving kids behind to grow up without a mum... yes, it's a sad story. But the same thing happens every day, all around the world. Each one is tragic. I didn't know Jade Goody personally, she didn't enrich my life... I will not miss her, I have no reason to mourn. It would be insincere and hypocritical to pretend otherwise. Let's leave the grief to her friends and family, who actually knew her and will genuinely miss her.
  22. Louisa, I'm sure pizzas at the Gowlett cost nowhere near ?15. Not many pizzas would cost that much (maybe the huge ones from Basilico perhaps). A frozen supermarket pizza is unrecognisable from a proper pizza you'd get in Italy, or even a decent pizzeria in London. I can't believe you honestly think it's the same thing. btw, maybe you could explain what's so wrong with wanting a bit of simple food to eat while you're drinking? It means you don't have to cook before you go out, it's cheaper and less formal than a restaurant, and it means the pub makes enough money to pay the bills. Everyone wins. Do you really enjoy a pub less because a couple of people are eating food?
