  1. Well...I knew you all when you were nowt!! :))
  2. *waits for Louisa to complain that furthermore there's no "Ann Summers" on NCR* - surely this perennial cri de coeur from her is way overdue? >:D
  3. "Spaced" is being repeated on Dave from next week - more excellent displacement therapy!
  4. Yes, we do this, and find there can be lulls when it seems little gets taken, and then all hell lets loose as sparrows, blue, great and long-tailed tits and finches all bombard the assortment of seed, nut and suet-ball feeders we have in the garden and hanging off the house, in what seems like a kind of shift system! A pair of blackbirds and a robin clean up on the ground beneath.
  5. Well I sort of hoped it might be pigs kept in ED allotments that inspired "Blandings" you see....
  6. Cafe 2050....
  7. Wodehouse attended Dulwich College I know, but has he any real connection(s) with East Dulwich?
  8. I was at Chener's yesterday and John Kennedy confirms that the whole shop front is being refurbished, probably by January. It will also be buggy/wheelchair accessible.

I wonder if these weirdos also collect stamps....B)
  10. Happily I am in York for a week during this break, so this should help keep the cravings at bay. Enjoy the break and do bring us all back a stick of rock...:)
  11. Yes, ???? beat me to it. The Nobel Peace prize lost all credibility for me when Kissinger was awarded it. Obama's award is a little early though
  12. They'd lose all the European TV games income too though...
  13. But...what, approximately, is the current income from TV for the two Glasgow clubs? If they were admitted to League 2 then that's at least 3 seasons with a seriously reduced income. How many of the current players would want to stay with either club for those first seasons?
  14. I think it started a bit weakly but is improving...
  15. URCarrieBradshaw&ICM?5 B)
  16. Thank you Captain Fabregas for my bestest score ever of 95 points! >:D
  17. Okay...if you insist, and more in sorrow than anger, hurts me more than it hurts you etc etc..."flowerbed" should have been "flower-bed" B)
  18. Is anyone here going to the Friends of PRP meeting on Wedneday? I cannot attend but would be interested to get any news, e.g. of when the Japanese garden bridge will be fixed.. (Moos = Guardian Country File):)
  19. No I thought the two goal margin was a bit flattering too. And Liverpool should have had a penalty at 0-0....And Drogba still falls over more easily than an 18 month old. I felt a bit sorry for Torres coming up against an excellent Chelsea defence straight after the Hull game though!
  20. Parcel posted on 9th September finally arrived today! :))
  21. Although ante-nuptial settlements (as they have always been termed in this country) have never been legally enforceable they have nonetheless been a standard feature with toffs/the landed gentry of this great land of ours since time immemorial. I know this as back in the last millennium when I was nobbutalad I worked for a very grand firm of solicitors indeed. Although my position was a lowly one it did involve sometimes assisting with the drafting or administration of such trusts. But this was a rarified class of people for whom land meant all, and a "good" marriage was nothing to do with being romantic. This did not mean the union in question was not a romantic one - just that the ANS was regarded in much the same way as taking out the marriage licence or booking the church.
  22. And speaking of that bridge in the Japanese garden...I thought it was due to be repaired in July? I miss viewing the mini-soap opera on the island and pond form there....
  23. That was what the original plea bargain established - the "punishment"/sentence Polanski would get in exchange for making a guilty plea. He got the lower "sentence" - the psychiatric evaluation which he complied with: in turn the victim did not have to testify at any trial. The problem was the original judge then had second thoughts and decided to renege on the plea-bargain and re-sentence. Polanski then did a bunk as he claimed that had he been facing the sort of sentence now being talked about he'd have insisted on the case going to trial. One problem of the present coverage by the media and by some people in here is that what was no more than the evidence given by the victim to the Grand Jury is being treated as the incontrovertible facts of the case. We don't know what took place at the time: the girl's version was never challenged in court. This is not to suggest Polanski is any sort of innocent martyr - just that it is a very long way from being proven that he is - or was then - the evil raging paedophile beast some would paint him as.
  24. Rupert Murdoch
  25. The only crime Polanski was actually found guilty of was "unlawful sex with a minor". Wasn't this the same thing Paul Yarrow did 3 months for back in the 70's, later receiving a pardon from Jimmy Carter? So if it is now proposed Polanski should do additional time for the other, nastier stuff he was alleged to have done over 30 years ago then there would have to be a fresh trial, and a compliant victim and witnesses and valid evidence. This is not going to happen.
