Quite the > opposite is true. Well, I am speaking from my own experience- Grammar school kid made good from a very poor background in Newham. Then 25 years teaching in various south London comps... This country, as a whole, has severely suffered from a lack of REAL academic education- the truth of which is borne out by the way we have plundered clever skilled people from very poor countries

This reminded me of when Harriet Harman who lived in Stradella Road sent little Harry to St Olave's in Orpington instead of paying for DC or Alleyn's (I expect she had a state funded chauffeur to take him there in 1994)- thereby depriving someone in Orpington of a grammar school place...especially since Labour got rid of grammars - thereby depriving all poor bright kids of a decent education.
  9. This is the Animal Welfare section https://ec.europa.eu/food/animals/welfare_en Since when have all these things been adhered to or enforced?
  10. I;m not saying I shouldn't have got a ticket- I'm just pointing out that Southwark will use motorists as cash cows at every opportunity.
  11. Most of the junctions around here have no kerb where they have crossing places for wheelchairs, pushchairs etc. I woke up one morning to find that a traffic womble had ticketed my car at 07.10- the bumper was overhanging the crossing place by about 4". Then a few days later another car parked near me had a ticket issued before 07.45; that car had about 2" of rear tyre on the kerb. If they resume their zealousness after the lines have been painted then Southwark will be quids in- not that I'm cynical or anything
  12. I feel sorry for the shop assistants when the the stores start playing the naff music on a loop. The reason for the Xmas ad fest is because it is Black Friday this Friday and you should be getting in the mood to get into a mountain of debt!!!
  13. I wonder how many extra traffic wombles they will employ to gather the revenue when/if it's done? Also, maybe they are doing this to use up the money before next April. In my experience the only vehicles that are a danger at the moment are bloody inconsiderate cyclists...there was one on Sunday afternoon travelling at speed on the pavement in LL. The next council elections are next year btw
  14. This is on a par with those people who move to small villages with church bells and then moan- if you don't like it - MOVE

'Brextremists'- I suppose by the Laws of Equal and Opposite reactions someone had to counter 'Remaniacs'
  16. the consultation questionnaire is online now and leaflets were posted on Saturday.
  17. Unfortunately, due to 'local democracy' front line public services are used as a political football- especially by Labour
  18. If you want the unadulterated truth read Private Eye once a fortnight.
  19. And meanwhile Southwark Council approve every planning application to convert small houses into 2/3 flats, and any corner plot like the old hairdressers' warehouse, the old police arms storage and the development on the corner of Heber/Lordship Lane etc etc into multiple rabbit hutches...
  20. Some people would love to cycle but can't due to disability. Don't forget construction pollution http://www.sustainablebuild.co.uk/pollutionfromconstruction.html And as for flying.....
  21. Doesn't matter what the cops do because the CPS are probably under strict instructions NOT to get people prosecuted so they let them out on bail and they disappear....
  22. I daren't go anywhere- was offered some Xmas something or the other with my coffee in Starbucks on the motorway and I nearly told the girl what she could do with it- I cannot behave myself for another 7 weeks.....7 weeks...
