  1. It's just a revenue earning strategy. Next, I hear the council will be trying to chargs businesses according to how much light passes through their shop windows, a tax not seen for some years in this country.
  2. Gorilla why not just talk to the lady and let her know your concerns, perhaps then she can vary her pitches, possibly giving several local residents some respite.
  3. "This is a problem that Dulwich DIY have made for themselves. It has hints of New Delhi where shop building extensions encroach on the pavement. Suspect a complaint has been put in. Cannot have ED brought down to this level" What's New Delhi got to do with it Charles ? If your referring to the people on the photo I think they're Pakistani origin. Personally I'd prefer less-sterile shop front set-ups than we currently have in ED. This ain't Knightsbridge.
  4. cheers all, i want new to save time as i need it to work and don't wanna be dealing with functional issues. i hear Maplins is a bit of a mare ? on that basis I'm off to PC World now.. cheers for suggies.
  5. I quickly need to get a printer than does the scanning / copying thing. ANywhere near ED I can do this now pls ?
  6. So is the deal basically that because she liked a shag (like most humans) it was not rape, even though she didn't actually consent ?
  7. And there's the rub. You could have the best food in town, but fake reviews lose custom before you've even started. There's something about blatant lying that just puts people off.
  8. "Oh well. What an opportunity lost. Yet another run of the mill 'curry house' to join the many others in the area" I made this point a few weeks ago on a separate thread, saying that something more authentic would be useful for our area, but was called pretentious (which as a result I clearly now feel crushed and devalued). Seriously, get down to the Everest Curry King canteen (which is basically what it is). 10min drive and no sitting waiting for anything, you get served at the counter ahd more choice than any buffet, at buffet prices. Haven't been to a local curry house proper (went to Xoco) in months. I would paste some Tamil script in here but (a) I'm not clever enough to figure it out, and (b) that would be sooo pass?.
  9. I had cork tiles once. Heavily varnished. They lasted for years.
  10. I think it was 1706 the next one, I just made it to my appt anyway. Fact is, trains are inconsistent enough generally that you have to factor in a service not running if you want to be sure of getting to LB on time. I failed to do that which was no-one's fault but my own.
  11. interesting how many of the (recent) likes are off Blood On The Tracks. Years ago, as a result of a combination of feck-ups, I spent Xmas on my own at a mates house - log fire, cooked my own bird and went through his record collection. Found BOTT. When Shelter From The Storm came on as first track I was covered in music for the entire day and when folks arrived later feeling sorry for me I was Mr. Grateful for what I'd had access to that day. Great album and such a tiny part of what he's written. Rendel thanks for finding this thread again, I could not find it earlier and assumed it'd been deleted. So now we're here, my current fave (and one I may try playing at the Jam in Nov) is Fourth Time Around: (can't find it on youtube !)
  12. ...apart from the fecking 1650 which has just been cancelled. Bastads.
  13. Cheers BNG - double yay !
  14. I think a few years ago I started a 'Bob Dylan fave songs' thread, perhaps worth resurrecting, if someone can find it, in honour of Zimmer's award.
  15. Are trains between ED and LB running today pls ?
  16. He also wrote Tarantula back in the day but that's not a defining work.
  17. Oh come on Steveo, you've just taken a photo of the Constable hanging in your parlour, can't fool us that easily.
  18. "Wow!! This beautifully constructed menu is well worth a try. In fact those that don't go are well and truly missing out. I visited spinach for its soft opening on Wednesday and sampled some (quite a few) of what this exciting menu had to offer. i think I've stumbled across my new favourite south London restaurant! Between the intriguing wine selection and the incredible dishes that are on offer I'd find a harder spot to rival this new restaurant in east dulwich. I'm not a creature of habit by nature, far from it however I think I'm going to be a staple regular at the delicious new home from home. Can't wait for my next visit." If you negate it, it reads: "Jeezus!! This terribly put together 'menu' is just not worth the bother. In fact those who do go are well and truly wasting their time. I visited spinach for its soft opening on Wednesday and sampled some (quite a few) of what this boring menu had to offer. I know I've stumbled upon a terrible south London restaurant! Between the predictable wine selection and the average dishes on offer I can easily find a better spot to rival this place in east dulwich. I'm not a creature of habit by nature and I think just as well based on what I've seen. Won't be going there again." There you are, two ficticious reviews, the truth probably lying somewhere between each extreme.
  19. a mate of mine has got 1-2 inch pepbles set into a waterprrof concrete base, including inside his purpose-made shower cubicle. They're all pressed-down to the same height at the top (I think he used large boards to get the 'eveness' across the floor). It looks ace and feels weird on the feet. Personally I used ceramic tiles which look like floorboards, got them from the tile shop down by Harvester and wothout fail everyone says they thought it was wood (although bare feet tells you it's not, esp now it's getting colder).
  20. If poetry can be included (not sure if it is/can) then I've no problem with songsters too. If we do look at songsters, Dylan is the main man by a country mile. I get that he don't write books and if the rules for the prize say books only then yes he shouldn't have been nominated. But somewhere the rules must say he is legible for consideration, so he was. There's no single book or single author (say Dostoyevsky, Gogol, Turgenev, Tolstoy) that have impacted me as deeply as Dylan's words in his lyrics. Horses for courses though. I can understand the shock horror of him being awarded. I'm not bothered whether Dylan gets this prize or not, it's not like he needs extra credentials to validate his abilities and legacy and he's probably embarrassed by the whole thing and will reel-off a hundred (in his view) more worthy wordsmiths.
  21. Yeah, that and the 2x soak aways. Pure class innit.
  22. I'm literally re-arranging my drains to support a DOUBLE outside toilet block (albeit into a cess pit and out in the country). Back on subject, a couple of years ago I had a quite large bathroom, which I've now split into a moderate-sized bathroom (bath/shower/sink/WC) plus separate loo (WC/sink).
  23. Pizza delivery guys carry cash, so the pizza boxes may just actually be a a bonus to what the scammers are really after.
