Formula milk: Melbourne to London flight
Convex replied to Bonfire2010's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We took enough formula to last the trip, including ready made for flights and powder for the rest of the time. Depends on luggage of course. We had to open and taste a selection at heathrow. We took our own bottles but agree disposables might be more practical. In NZ I worked out formula was 4x the cost so it was worth it for us. -

This happened to me with my first, was kindly lent one and couldn't find all the leaks! We bought one in the end as I didn't want to risk then same thing happening with another 2nd hand pool. Paid extra for next day delivery and baby didn't show for another 2 weeks or so! -

I'm sorry you are finding it hard. I am on mat leave now but found compartmentalising worked best for me. Ie, at home I don't think about work, at work I don't really think about home. I'd ideally like to go back 4 days, as I think this offers a better balance, would this be possible for you? And could you sort your hours so you always do either breakfast or bedtime? Then you have that regular time to hang out.

Beauty products/ remedies you swear by..
Convex replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have had really dry skin over winter and started putting bio oil on my face and neck/chest(figured as I had it in the cupboard anyway and couldn't be arsed to sort out a night cream etc) It's brilliant and my skin is much less dry. I suspect any oil suitable for facial use would have the same effect. When I'm out of all the oils I have I am going to start buying the Neal's yard one, someone got me some 'mothers massage oil' from there and their products are just so lovely to use. I agree re decent foundation. I had to chuck all of my makeup due to getting conjunctivitis (yuk) and bought mostly cheap stuff to stock up but had to go back for Clinique foundation! Plan to gradually stock up with good products over the year so will watch this thread with interest. Also for lips, I just out moisturiser on them. Tastes gross but works! And for day cream I use the oil of Olay because I always have! Can't imagine changing. -
We have just booked at shot by the sheriff. They were great last time. Costs a bit more but saves hassle!

birthday present ideas for a 2 year old girl
Convex replied to pommie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
maybe just get her clothes etc then or a selection of small treats like stickers, extra bits to go with toys she already has, etc? if you really want her to have a big present you could always put the money aside and get her something midway through the year when you see something you know she would really like. we realised after xmas that actually what we need is a play kitchen!!!! and have just bitten the bullet and ordered one as i am about to have no. 2 and am hopeful that it will occupy him when i am busy with the baby and all the kitchen-y stuff that comes along with a newborn and then weaning infant. something we have recently got as a family present is an adult scooter and i have to say that has made a big impact on our outings - my son loves to scoot after his dad on the big scooter so it has made him use his scooter a lot more (and a lot more skilfully). hopefully i will be able to join in once i have my balance back! -

Duplo and toy food are a hit in our house. My son also loves his train set and his tea set. We have a lovely emma bridgewater teaset which I would recommend, they do it in jojo with the heart pattern and you can get a spots pattern online. -
Meant to say you could post your query on the just kampers forum, you will get lots of advice and opinions there!

We own one, a vw T2 bay window camper. We have had it for about 5 years I think. They are lovely to own and we have had real pleasure from it. But we have found with a very young baby we didn't use it as much. Our son is 2 now but we are expecting another, we want to camp a lot this year so decided to go for a newer van. Basically there is less prep involved per trip and we tend to do short trips. But with your ages I would have thought a vintage van would be brilliant! You need to be prepared for some upkeep though, they are old vehicles and need to be looked after, I think that's why everyone ends up naming them and treating them like extended family rather than simply as a car. If you decide to go the vintage vw route then we will be selling ours in the spring. You would be welcome to come and have a look at it, though we aren't ready to let go yet I think. But do look into converted vans - if you are willing to go for something less attractive then your options are much greater. Also have a look on as many online forums as you can to get lots of impressions and gauge how it might fit in with your family.

I had my first at home and am planning the second one now, due soon. I had to transfer in after the birth for stitches so didn't get the lovely 'tea and toast in my own bed' experience but overall glad we did it at home. I'm probably too close to my next birth to meet up but would be happy to meet you after this one is out! My husband has gotten a few gadgets based on his experience of last time so I will let you know if they were worth it afterwards! Which team are you with? -
In terms of meeting people.... I made really good friends through NCT and also the EDF bumps club. So I would definitely recommend them but you only know afterwards whether it was worth it, depending on the friends you make! In terms of birth prep... I did find NCT helpful. Apparently the NHS ones are quite good too, we didn't manage to get onto that one. If I had my time again I wish I had done hypnobirthing first time around, I'm doing it for my second (due imminently) and it's really helped. But basically the more you can do to meet people in the area the better. Having a couple of good friends in the same boat as me made all the difference to my maternity leave! And congratulations on your pregnancy x
