Great question!
-
No Mako, the virus won't miraculously avoid me when I am running, anymore than it will when I am out walking or buying groceries... a bit lost as to what point you are trying to make there. KK - that's fair, but have people said that exercise should be limited to jogging, I haven't seen that on this thread - have I missed it?
-
The government have been clear enough on their instructions regarding the lock-down. Stay in your home at all times, unless your journey outside is essential. There are some specified examples of what this means with food shopping and once a day for exercise being two of the most common. There is nothing in the instructions that I have seen or heard to say that people should be taking their exercise in their own gardens. Or that over and above common sense and courtesy, walking pedestrians have priority over joggers. I am going out for a run fairly regularly, also going out for just a stroll some days and going to the shops every now and then for food. I notice that most people who are out seem to be respectful of the instructions and of other people, as I try to be. A small, but significant minority are not in a whole range of ways, and that is in no way limited to joggers.

Steady, I answer to the call of centrist dad and don't mind an IPA every now and then. Toploader though, is taking things way too far...

Not many, I would imagine. But I would hope that most people would have the required judgement to recognise that hanging around in the kiddie's play park as a grown adult without any attendant children is not the right thing to do.

Those that counsel caution against assuming a lone man in a is a threat to children, make a valid point. And the tone of the OP would suggest he or she is well aware of that. But I have to be honest, the string of potential justifications why a lone man could be hanging around in a kids' play park are completely beyond me. There is a law against that and anyone who is flouting that is rightly a cause for concern.

Hi there, We have had two children at Bessemer, one still there. So can give you my feedback on that that school, but can?t really make any comparisons with the other two. Firstly, I believe you are correct in saying all the schools round here are very good, also that if you live in catchment for BG and DKH, you are unlikely to get allocated Heber. Bessemer is a fantastic school with impressive leadership, amazing staff and a great pupil, parent/carer community. It has generous inside space and as you note, separate playgrounds for different age groups as well as regular access to the JAGS?s playing fields. They also have a lovely nature garden with chickens, and a new 3G football pitch. Regarding your list of pros and specifically cons: It is a big school, but it really does not feel overwhelming at all and the split campus with yrs 5&6 in a different building over the road helps. They do a reasonable amount of art and music. When our eldest was in year 4, the whole year learnt woodwind instruments and got to play in a concert at the Royal Festival Hall. I would imagine there are schools that do more in these areas. There are some superstar teachers there, without a doubt. It sounds like you have done a lot of research and have clear ideas as to what you are looking for, so I am sure you will make a good decision that is right for your family. @Hammerhead ? Bessemer Grange is located in SE5 but the ?catchment? covers parts of East Dulwich. Duncan

Does anyone know much about fitness tracking apps for kids? We bought our son a Garmin fitness watch for his birthday which counts his daily steps. My wife and I both have Apple watches, and we would really like to find an app we can all use to set up weekly challenges etc. But so far we haven't found anything suitable, or at least managed to get anything to work in the way we would like - and be suitable for an 11 yr old boy in terms of privacy/internet safety, etc Any ideas?

Looks like it's a shared office/hot desking space. Mini WeWork??

Local MPs active in the local Southwark area

Helen Hayes voted in favour of a motion of no confidence in JC in 2016. So safe to assume she's not a fan. -
To be fair, there has been a significant increase in demand for both junior and senior school places in the area. The state sector has increased capacity with whole new schools being built and some existing schools increasing intake from 2 form to 3 form entry. Although the independent system is unpopular with some, as it stands there is no compelling reason why the independent sector should not also increase capacity. There is an issue though with volume of traffic and a worrying level of inconsiderate and dangerous driving and parking around these schools though. As has been mentioned already, the nature of these schools means a higher proportion travel in, plus they are more likely to have siblings attending different schools which means it?s more likely they are driven to school, so most of the issues that also exist at local state schools are multiplied. I believe the council are looking closely at traffic management specifically around Calton and Townley Road. I hope they are bold enough to implement the solutions that are needed to address this quite serious problem.

Shame, but they were outgunned by Voodoo Ray which opened opposite shortly after they did. There never used be many places to get decent pizza round here, but now there are quite a few so competition is tough. I went in there a couple of times, and it was absolutely fine, but didn?t really have a USP

The new EBay ad uses Dulwich College and Dulwich Pk as locations.

We have never done Open House before, but were walking along the Thames path this Saturday and stumbled across this house. It's an amazing house and I would love to know more about it, I don't think I have been anywhere like it before. And at the risk of being crude, it must be worth an absolute fortune!

I have heard that Chernobyl is good too, but isn't it Sky only? Just started with Catch 22 last night on C4. The catch-up offer on their website is good, goes back a lot further than the one accessed by TV and the picture is decent.

To be fair, they are pretty much all variations on their given names, most commonly using their middle name instead of the first name. As for George Osborne, if my parents had called me Gideon, I'm not sure it would have taken me as long as that to change it by deed-poll.

He is often in the news - not only when he's facing legal proceedings - and they always mention that his real name is... SYL He is a recent example: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/may/02/tommy-robinson-doused-in-milkshake-for-second-time-in-two-days
-
Why is it that the news media always call him Tommy Robinson, but then without fail state that his real name is SYL within a couple of lines? There are plenty of other people in public life who operate under an assumed name that they don?t do this for:

As much as you might like a Wetherspoons in ED, I don?t think pubs come into being via a petition normally, do they? Particularly not if there is a tenant already running a viable business in those premises.

That's fake news, RRR - I don't think you'll find any Brexiters dumb enough to fall for that sort of carry on!!
