  1. Snoozequeen1, "Ms Jowell was cleared of any wrongdoing after an investigation by UK parliamentary officials." You have obviously read the parliamentary report and disagree with it, do you have some other information that we should know about? She was investigated and she was cleared, if you know of something that would overturn that decision then report it.

Google Analytics does it for us http://www.google.com/analytics/ > For example if it done by ip address do you account for the same user on different machines - like work home and mobile? No, they're different machines and we can't tell without having to invest in special software. > If not I was wondering if you could correlate a user names with multiple ip addresses Yes we can but it's not on the same system as the analytics software so they don't tie in. Hope that helps
  3. There are other parties involved other than just dog walkers and children, Goose Green should be for the whole community not just those two groups. Like I said before if you want to keep creating a battle of "them and us", make it the selfish, irresponsible dog owners vs the rest of us, that way we're on the same team and more likely to get a better outcome.
  4. I like the thought if getting a train directly to Clapham Junction.
  5. It seems to me that some people have made a decision on what should happen after the 6 month trial period without having been through the trial period. Please remember there are other options to a dividing fence down the middle including a dividing fence elsewhere, a small fenced off dog pooh area, dog control orders or perhaps removing all fences. Make a judgement after the trial not before.
  6. I like the idea of a wide pavement to walk on outside Somerfield but I don't like the thought of the disruption caused by the interruption of the bus lane. Nor am I keen on the loss of parking spaces as it may mean loss of business to local traders, or will it?. Is anyone a trader or has anyone spoken to a trader to get their opinion on this?
  7. So everyone agrees that the main problem is the dog pooh so shall we make that the common enemy? Not the fence, not the lack of fence, not the council, not Southwark Parks but the irresponsible and selfish dog owners who do not clear up after their dogs. They are the ones who cause the problem, a solution was tried and it caused an issue. The fence is in the process of coming down so whether you're happy or not, why not get together and focus on tackling the people who cause the "crime".
  8. Don't read the Daily Mail SusyQ or these things will continue to happen.
  9. Are you a time machine salesman Tony? You keep harping on about this good old time 30 years ago without mentioning how we can get back to that great era.
  10. Sorry to hear that woodie. Can you give us a description of these people please?
  11. Argentina's brilliant - go to Patagonia and see the glaciers, up to the Iguazu Falls to see the ummm, Iguazy Falls and go clubbing in Buenos Aires. If you have a local you can tour with do try and go to Colombia, it is a little bit dodgy but a fantastic place. I went to Bogot?, Cartagena, Baranquilla and Sierra Nevada de Santa Martao and they are all well worth the visit, the friendliness of the locals alone make it it worthwhile.
  12. Can I get off the step now please? This George Bush chap sat next to me keeps stroking my knee and making me nervous.
  13. Edited to say that on Monday 23rd February there were 4,575 unique users in one day. Just to let you know that on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 there were 3,084 absolute unique visitors to the forum. So that's over 3,000 people in one day, a new record so thank you to everyone who uses the forum and makes it what it is. Here's a graph of the traffic: [edited once]
  14. So three Christian groups are going to put these banners on buses: "There definitely is a God. So join the Christian Party and enjoy your life." "There IS a God, BELIEVE. Don't worry and enjoy your life." "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God" http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/feb/05/atheist-bus-christian-response I have to admit my first reaction was to think of complaining to the Advertising Standards Authority because a) the atheist bus campaign had to put the word "probably" in their ad to stop offending people, these guys don't b) they're stating something that's unproven (like an ageing cream stating it will make you younger) and c) the last one is calling me a fool, which is rather rude. But it's petty to complain for the sake of it so I won't but in my opinion it shows how the church can get away with saying things unchallenged and how sad it is that this apparent great omnipresent, all seeing being that rules the universe has to promote itself on the side of a bus. I ought to clarify that I doctored the above image and that God was in no way involved [edited once]
  15. It's because she's very convincing. You open the door and she's panting like she's in distress, her voice is distressed and she sounds like someone who really is scared and in need of help. Even her body language is saying "I'm in need". Your automatic reaction is to help and it's hard to tell someone in that situation to go away. What if it's not the person you've read about on the forum and this woman really does need help and you turn her away? How would you feel? And it's only ?6 so sometimes it's better to hand over ?6 and hope she's ok rather than not hand over ?6 and feel guilty. So look out for a tall black lady, mid 30's asking for ?6. She may say something about children to make you feel even more guilty. If you're not sure, tell her you're just going to call the police to report this. I did and she suddenly stood upright and boldly and briskly walked away. Preying on people's good nature is the lowest if the low, it makes people more cautious of helping people in need of genuine help because of the actions of a con woman.

Looks like the workmen removed lots of the ice on that bit of pavement (nice one workmen) and the rest's just been hand salted and gritted.

    Ask Admin

Good point, it does state that it's for East Dulwich residents and businesses in the terms but I doubt if people actually read them. I've got Admin to add some text to the message at the top or the wanted section and added "East Dulwich..." the wanted section's description on the home page. If you're interested, typical email conversations with businesses go something like this: Them: why can't I promote myself on the forum Us: We're sorry, it's because you're a building company in Essex and the forum's for East Dulwich businesses Them: but we have a client in East Dulwich so we are offering a service to people in East Dulwich Us: Yes, so do British Airways, a Dutch cabinet maker, Volkswagen, Mrs Miggins tea shop in Cornwall etc etc but we have to draw a line and that line's East Dulwich. You can pay to advertise if you want. Them: I think that's ridiculous or Them: why can't I promote myself on the forum Us: We don't know where you're based and the forum's for East Dulwich businesses Them: We're based in East Dulwich Us: So please state your your trading address in your post Them: OK no problem

May I recommend that you don't reference a Mel Gibson Hollywood film as the accurate teachings of your lord, it gives us ammunition with which to undermine your argument. Have you seen Mad Max or Lethal Weapon?

  21. microbite Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Mark - you have no way of proving or disproving the existence of a higher being. Why can't it be proven? People talk about an omnipresent being that looks over all of us, why can they not prove it? This thing is meant to be massive and can speak to some people. Why can't it just give us a sign? It's not much to ask, how about writing a message, something like "Now do you believe in me" in the sky written with planets? There's a pink unicorn behind you that's called Dave, oh he's invisible so you can't see him. Just because I said that doesn't make him real but still you cannot disprove him. Neither of us can prove him or disprove him but because we're rational we know he doesn't really exist. Same with god. I agree about the universe being massive and there may well be other life forms on another planets.
  22. Bizzy, I was pointing out that (simplistic version...) a) Condoms do not let the AIDS virus pass through it. Fact. b) A medical advisor to the Catholic church says they do. Lie. I have looked into god's existence, believe me, it'll be good if there was a god then there would be someone to thank/blame for what's going on, but there's not. There's no heaven, no hell, just the life we currently have and we should make the most of it. Like I said before if you need to believe in a mythical being to make your life better then fair enough, I just don't like it when bad things are done in the name of a god or religion. There seems to be too much punishment going on which religious people says it's because "it's god's way" or "it's because he says we are sinners". Just plain daft and medieval in this day and age.
  23. 20 years ago medical research showed that condoms are effective in stopping the aids virus: http://www.popline.org/docs/0716/034014.html Last year the Catholic church said that condoms let through the aids virus and the only answer is to abstain from casual sex http://catholicactionuk.blogspot.com/2008/07/vatican-no-condoms-to-curb-aids.html The church does many good things but to me that is an example of a step backwards, all the hard work done by medical research and the education of third world people undone by the church. Or a church, or a god, or the word of god or whatever it's packaged as.
  24. Bizzy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Simply put, God doesn't expect people to believe in God... You are making a statement based on the assumption that there is a god. I think that's what I find odd about all these religions, people make statements and get together and have the same thoughts based on the fact that there is is someone/thing that acts like a person. "He wants you to do something", "he says this", "we spread his word" which to an rational outsider like myself is strange and unnerving, when you see people who talk about something mythical as if it's real then you just want them to be less blinkered and see what they're doing through normal eyes. I understand that it makes some people feel better to believe in something like this however from my experiences in life the only person who can get me through things is me. I take responsibility for the things I do. Nature's occurrences aside, the good things and bad things in life are mainly caused by people, not by a god, so the people should take responsibility for them. Bizzy, I hope it comes across that I do respect that you have a belief and as much as you want to tell people "The Word of God" I would like to ground people by reminding them about reason and science how it's our responsibility to look after this world we live in. There is not another life after we die so let's make the most of this one, if you need to believe in something to help you through that then fair enough but please don't preach falsities to people, it's just another step backwards for the progression of humanity when you do.

Do you accept that it is ok then to do that? Lev. 21:20 states that you may not approach the altar of God if you have a defect in your sight. Do you have perfect vision? Do you feel sorry for others who do not know the truth of which you speak? The word of God that you follow, where do you personally get them from? The bible (which one?)? A vicar? Thank you for your answers by the way, it's great to hear from someone like you who whole heartedly believes in God.
