  2. Hi ExDulwicher Can you publish the modelling work you did or share it on here ? if you are going to talk about it let others see it. The TfL London Travel Demand Survey you shared was for 2011 /12 and is made up of 8,000 responders therefore it is 8 years out of date and only represents 8,000 ( https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/about-tfl/how-we-work/planning-for-the-future/consultations-and-surveys#on-this-page-1 ) out of 9,304 million Londoners (2020 figures) which means the survey represents approximately 0.086% of the total London population ? that?s worse than a Loreal advert that tells you 85% of 120 women prefer it? If the survey was done with a realistic sample then it would represent the views of Londoners, however with such a small survey there is a chance that (for example) 1,000 parents questioned on their way to take little Johnny to football could easily bias the results. The data is a) out of date and b) not a large enough sample to produce the full conclusion of 35% of all car journeys are less than a mile (2km) To use this survey in a meaningful way in this debate you would need to ensure it covers at least (modelling finger in the air) 5% of all Londoners (465,200 Londoners or half a million for ease of counting) which would provide better objectivity and a more reliable outcome. I agree, for some people the creature comfort of driving rather than waiting in the cold and wet is better than using busses / trains but a lot of the journeys undertaken would involve multiple changes or long awkward journeys (when I was younger I used to commute, not by choice, to Kent on a daily basis which was only practical by driving as an example.) Remember this area is a through route to other places (Kings College Hospital, the South Circular and so on) so a lot of drivers in this area (not SE22 resident's) are possibly doing more than local short journeys. God I would love to own an Aston Martin as I suspect 99.99% of all drivers would, but two points to mention here, there are not that many Aston Martins in Dulwich and as much as I would love to say ?Bond, James Bond? sadly motability cars don?t offer an Aston Martin as an option 😆 To follow up on your comment, you need to think that a lot of cars in the area are owned by families with kids who need to carry them and other things in the safest and quickest way from A to B (cycling, walking and Public transport often doesn?t offer an option.) The concept that people still drive company cars is also a bit out of date, over the past 20 years tax advantages of doing so have been eroded so now the number of company car drivers is very low compared to 2000 or 2011.) The issues with the scheme needing to bed in over months (as you point out) would be true if there was a limited number of LTNs but that?s not the case as they are virtually everywhere in London now so traffic can?t evaporate to other roads as they are also blocked hence demand is forced into ever decreasing bottlenecks pushing pollution in certain areas even higher. I will accept that some journeys are unnecessary but until you provide the following I can?t put any faith in your stock answers as a lot of people actually do need to drive but the pro-active travel lobby are making life hard for them and increasing (not reducing) pollution as a result.. 1. A copy of the modelling work / or link to it with the base date behind it. 2. A current 2019/20 London Travel Survey (preferably with a good respondent group to ensure that small deviations can?t skew the data.) 3. Local data on drivers in and around East Dulwich including those who pass through. 4. A pre implementation traffic and pollution survey for all roads in the area to show either the overall improvement or the displacement to non LTN roads.
  3. legalalien Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I see on Twitter that Ealing MP Dr Rupa Haq is > raising the issue of the LTNs in Parliament today > > https://calendar.parliament.uk/ Did anyone take the time to watch this ? It was on from about 6.25 and the conclusion I got was that the minister in charge was asked about the lack of wider consultations, the issues of keeping London open for movement of goods and so on but as she is a cyclist the scheme will get a second set of funding and councils must prove that they are consulting otherwise they won't get all the money they want. Seemed a bit sad that she wasn't taking concerns on board and was determined to continue rolling out funding to London and other councils.
  4. Nigello Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks to too many people making journeys that > could be made on foot or on a bicycle, this > morning..... Interesting, and you know that they ALL could use alternative methods to get to their destination how exactly ? I'm hoping you knocked on every car window and asked how long / far their journey is and if they could use alternative methods but I expect it is the usual finger in the air scientific conclusion made on assumptions and lack of local and realistic baseline data ?
  5. Not only in need of least repair but they have treated them to the special council bulldozer experience !
  6. OneEaling have launched a legal challenge and crowd funding page. One to watch and possibly emulate to put pressure on councils across London!
  7. Blah Blah, I'm curious How are you going to explain how Santa is able to visit every house despite a covid ban on visiting other people's houses potentially in place at Christmas ?
  8. Can't believe how quickly Christmas Adverts are here this year. Halloween has literally just been put in its grave and the adverts have started. Commercialisation at its finest !
  9. They've had enough in Crystal Palace Maybe we should do the same if it gets results
  10. I'm guessing the song for this weekend is "boom shake shake da room" !
  11. Thanks for the input Robin and welcome back Can you post or point to the alternative suggestions so they can be discussed ?
  12. Fishbiscuits did you complete the survey to tell Westminster that ?

  14. Westminster are proposing to reduce the number of spots where street performers can operate down to 15 with only a few allowed PA systems. This has been pushed through by only 1,800 complaints in a year. Yet millions of Londoners and tourists have been watching and enjoying these performances for years (centuries) They are asking for responses via a short survey to be completed by this Sunday. Are you in favour of against reducing the number of pitches, types of performances and potentially driving Street Performers out of the capital? The survey and more information is here : https://www.westminster.gov.uk/busking Personally I've spent my whole life secretly enjoying seeing the Street Performers around places like Covent Garden and admired their bravery in getting up and entertaining the masses and I for one don't want to see them gone or restricted. Do you ?

  16. The documents show how easy it is for people to think it's a war on car ownership A borough wide CPZ. Lobbying the GLA to expand the ULEZ to the M25 as parts of southwark will be outside it when expanded to the south circular. A borough wide school streets programme. Aiming to drive down private vehicle usage so that by 2030 only a limited number of EV vehicles are in common use. (Support limited to car clubs, EV bicycles and scooters, EV commercial freight , EV public transport). Adopt a target to halve petrol and diesel journeys by 2025 and by 90% by 2030. Lobby the GLA to introduce a road usage charge. Timed closures for high pedestrian footfall areas. Repurposing 10% of kerbside car storage to cycle storage within the next 18 months. Roll-out secure bike storage in the tens of thousands directly replacing car storage spaces. Adopting a borough wide program of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. Develop a LTN programme that gives a competitive advantage for cargo bikes which can pass through permeable filters whereas motor vehicles may be taking a more circuitous route. Increase the cost of car parking for all motor vehicles. Basically I would call this a war on motorists... why not go the whole hog and force the closure of all petrol stations so even if you do own a car, you can't drive it. Absolutely no consideration for those who can't cycle or walk (the elderly, disabled, with very young children) These measures will effectively make all the areas in Southwark into small enclaves where the local residents don't travel to the neighbouring enclave and distrust strangers from it. This madness has to stop as its no longer about environmental issues as these measures even try to limit the number of clean vehicles. Welcome to the new communist southwark state comrade !
  17. Not sure this is the right place, but the BBC are showing an article today about TfL's finances BBC News - Why Transport for London's finances are far from healthy https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-54652907 One thing that struck me is that bus use was at a peak in 2014 but declined since. TfL blame this on people not using buses "It seems the big reason is the decline in bus travel for leisure and non-work reasons. Less people are getting on a bus to go shopping." As a thought, I seem to remember that in 2014 buses went fully cashless so the ability to just hop on and pay was lost, and people were asked to use Oyster or contactless which a lot of people didn't like doing. As a regular bus user, it seemed that before March, buses were packed most of the day which put people off getting one if they could go by other methods (walking, cycling or car) and yet TfL say numbers were down which leads to two questions in my head 1. Are they only counting paying passengers in their numbers which implies more people are fare dodging 2. Has the prevalence of internet shopping actually cut the number of people going out shopping ? Guess it's not easy to juggle demand and capacity but I for one would choose other methods over using overcrowded buses to get to work if I could.
  18. Spring time, I really don't know where I can film sheep outside in the SE22 borders, to follow up on your suggestion. Especially not any "sexy" ones dressed up for a night out in the hay 😱 Any suggestions as you brought sheep into the conversation ?

    Welsh Aid

This morning the Welsh went into a full lockdown. Now they need your help, it's very simple to do and best of all you don't need to donate financially. If you have any friends in Wales or you are in contact with any Welsh people on social media show them you care by sharing a video of what being outside looks like. If you can , make them feel at home by adding phrases like Boyo or Taff to your message. In exchange they will show you gratitude in their native language. This morning I was told "mynd ar goll" which made my heart melt.
  20. You are correct Nigello and because of local voting empathy that's how we end up with a council who walk over their electorate. Maybe / hopefully it will change come the next local election and councillors will be in place who actually care what the majority want rather than the vocal minority.
  21. Also, try posting messages to the councillors social media accounts. Although I believe Tim at Franklins has been blocked by a few of them after raising questions.
  22. This is a news article from Lewisham showing how much their bus gates installed as part of their LTN make https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/18810571.lewisham-council-get-millions-lee-green-ltn-fines/ Once they are in here Southwark will find every reason under the sun to keep them after the 18 month trial has completed. It's not just about reducing pollution and traffic IMHO , it's about revenue generation for the council as well.

    eco tips

I also guess Don't eat yellow snow near a compost heap is very much at the forefront of my mind 😱
  24. Just imagine if it is extended, businesses in East Dulwich would be unfairly disadvantaged by businesses just the other side of the South Circular (Sydenham for example) as people will shop there or at out of town centres rather than driving a few yard more (figuratively) and pay a congestion charge, a ULEZ charge and any CPZ charges (that may eventually be introduced). It will potentially result in a tragic loss of our high street IMHO. Found this online today https://www.change.org/p/petition-the-extension-of-congestion-charge
  25. Also recommendation 8 Adopt a local target to halve petrol and diesel road journeys by 2025, and by 90% by 2030, and encourage London Councils and the Mayor to do likewise. The LTN implementation will do that but what happens when we all go electric , will there be any roads left to use ? 🤔
