In this case https://redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com/majority-of-londoners-agree-most-streets-in-central-london-should-be-pedestrian-only/ 2,500 people. Which if this is the source of the "52% of all Londoners support" statement is misleading as it should really say "52% of 2,500 Londoners ..." There's lies, damn lies and statistics

First mate Clean air for dulwich is a twitter group with around 879 followers. The closest I can find to a petition is here https://twitter.com/CleanAirDulwich/status/1311771597943066625?s=09 I agree it's a whitewash if one dulwich and the 2500 plus signature petition aren't represented at the meeting. Can't wait till the local elections as this lot have lost the plot.

Traffic chaos in Dulwich Village - does anyone know the cause?
Spartacus replied to gkb's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hence from now on, the problems in the area will be known as "Covidgate" Can't wait till the movie comes out 🤔 -
Meanwhile Andy Burnham is showing that politicians (at all levels) are playing Russian Roulette with lives whilst they play politics BBC News - Covid alert level: Greater Manchester 'fighting back' against Tier 3 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54557823 As I've said before no one has gotten this global pandemic right.

Why are we moving to tier 2 Friday night and not tonight ? Why is there a delay between announcement and implementation ? It doesn't make sense

Alan Do you remember how tightly China locked down the residents in Wuhan at the beginning of the pandemic ? Interestingly do you also remember how well the residents complied and didn't whip up a media frenzy ? You are entitled to be unhappy with the government but it frustrates me that people look at blaming the government because they wanted to go on holiday or go to the pub rather than following simple rules to stay safe and protect others. As I said we all have our own important part to play in curbing the virus and the media stirring isn't helping IMHO

Boy Imagine the cost of replacing every road sign in the UK from miles to km Still not to worry, we're getting pounds shillings and pence back soon 🤔

Alan Apart from places like New Zealand where the population is low enough to manage a pandemic, how many world wide governments have actually got their response correct and nor made any mistakes at all ? Not many from what I can see and numbers are rising across Europe despite their policies so let's face it, whilst our government hasn't got everything right, they aren't alone in that fact! I guess we could go the way of China and go super strict on freedom but that's not the correct way either 😱

Sigh This is exactly the problem we are facing "It's nor my responsibility that the app failed, or that people can't be traced because they give incorrect details It's the government failing to protect us all from our own stupidity because we fail to follow the rules, we fail to protect our selves or others , we fail to wear masks correctly and we fail spectacularly to take responsibility for our own actions because some bloke went to a castle, a private company didn't do as well as want or people were taking tests when they didn't need to." That sort of rhetoric is exactly why numbers are rising because people assume that it's someone else's issue to deal with. It's not it's ALL OUR ISSUE. Wake up and smell the roses as this is a global pandemic and the government are trying to limit the damage the public are causing. (better to smell the roses than the Lilly's on your grave)

Whilst it is not going to be a popular opinion, the government are doing everything they can to balance the economy and save lives but, and this is a big but, we all need to step up and protect ourselves Contact is how this virus is transmitted, not some government plot to infect us all, so we all have our part to play by following the rules to help defeat this virus and to stop a major disaster. If we don't then no matter what any government does, we will all fail.

I suspect it's not easy to forget having to be ventilated so everytime you go out think about how you are able to and not in ICU fighting for your life which may help you remember 🤔

Good point Blah Blah Everyone can do their bit to help slow the spread. Wear a face mask fully covering your mouth and nose when in shops and other required areas. Wearing it just covering your mouth is as dangerous as not wearing it. Where possible stick to the 2m rule (despite everything the rule is still there with the exception of where it's not practical i.e. going for a haircut or similar activity that needs closer contact.) Wash your hands frequently and for the required time. Use the track and trace app and if you are asked to isolate do so, it may save your or a close family members life. If you show signs of Covid, isolate and book.a test Most of all stay safe, stay alive.

Whilst the letter highlighted by blah blah has some obvious fake names, I am concerned by its contents as they are basically calling for the elderly and vulnerable to be shielded again and for healthy people to catch covid, the so called herd immunity that was so wildly poo pooed 6 months ago. However what the signatures of the letter fail to recognise is that healthy people can get long covid as a result, which leaves them with serious debilitating side effects that may have even longer consequences for their lives and health. https://www.longcovid.org/resources This on top of the cricket games attracting crowds on Rye Lane really concerns me that people have become covid nonchalant which may well come back to bite them !

I see that the BBC also has the video as part of its lead story, not a good image for Peckham or the council. BBC News - Covid: Second national lockdown possible, says top UK scientist https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54498191

Whilst it's disturbing and I hope nothing more comes off it,I can't help feeling that you are describing the opening scene to a Halloween film 😱

@rahrahrah The question you raise about not offering alternatives, as there hasn't or possibly won't be a consultation by the council, anything anyone offered on here is irrelevant and what a lot of people are simply asking for is a proper consultation process on road closures to be run with concerns and views of all not just the few being taken into consideration. Do you think changes that effect so many should be pushed through without a proper and inclusive consultation ?

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Spartacus replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James How can the council continue with the roll-out of LTNs when the emergency services have concerns with their implementation ? https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/police-and-ambulance-service-wont-support-hard-road-closures-as-new-road-changes-unveiled/ -
No support for physical road closures by the emergency services https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/police-and-ambulance-service-wont-support-hard-road-closures-as-new-road-changes-unveiled/ It's about time the council paused and listened to the concerns of the public, businesses and emergency services

Sounds to me James that you want to make Dulwich a gated community to keep the Riff Raff from other boroughs or towns out 😱

Two separate points The improvement in public transport, as mentioned above, is the real solution but it's possible that the cost is too high so the approach is go for the low cost option of penalising car drivers and make them walk and cycle. Very shortsighted IMHO. Second point, has anyone noticed the increased heavy traffic using side roads coming off Lordship Lane where people are trying to bypass the closure or finding other routes to get to their destination ?
-
Ex I'm concerned by your statement " if you're driving 20km then you probably have a few more possibilities that don't affect the overall time of the journey." Are you saying that people can't drive through our back yard to get to wherever but it's okay as they will find routes through other people's backyards ? All well and good but as councils are putting in LTNs in everyone's back yard, then that 10 mile journey (we still use miles not km in this country) will take 2 or 3 times as long, producing more pollution and possibly a higher accident risk for others as frustration boils up. That journey may be essential, it may not but we don't know only the driver does.
