Huguenot Wrote: Not sure what age has to do with the price of fish though? No, that does make sense H. as my perceptions and experiences as a 54-year-old who has witnessed an enormous Cultural change in London and England and, indeed, Britain must be different from, say, a 24-year-old. Accordingly, many in my list will be from my formative and impressionable early years in The 1960's/1970's which many here will not have experienced.

The ratio is Thousands-to-One! That is, in great part, to the fact that many Black people feel that there are not perceived as "English" by the indigenous population. Gordon and the Labour party are of course petrified of the rise of Englishness .... Not just them either! Vive Le Revolucion! (just joking) "just"B)

Flotsam and Jetsam. It is a great shame if older Posters choose to leave. Forums are fascinating places and can tell you something, over a period of time, about a persons character, inner strength, personality and intelligence. Coming from a very solid Working-Class Southwark environment and visiting Greyhound and Football Stadia on thousands of occasions and always standing my ground (in what can be an extremely hostile setting) means that I, automatically assume there will be "Banter" and severe disagreement sometimes which need not be unpleasant, but which WILL be vociferous and challenging. Its like breathing to me and any criticism, whilst initially taken on board, has been "water off a ducks back" for, at least, the last 30 years now. It saddens me that some posters run away (for that is how it is often perceived) because someone firmly disagrees with them! I can only assume that these posters do NOT have to deal everyday with the endless "blaggers"/ "lowlife" / "teefs" / "chancers" / "fraudsters" / "assh+++a" who are all around us in "most" of our everyday existences. Its a sign of strength of character, imo, if one does stay and state their opinion firmly, and not drift away if the going gets tough, having said which, no-one should endure personal attacks or maliciousness or rudeness.

How could I forget??? Self-Depreciation : The confidence and inner strength to mock yourself and the intelligence to sometimes do it to take "the wind out of the sails" of potential protagionists.

FelicityNormal Wrote: Negativity.........I positively disagree with this, for starters.. Greyness in terms of complexion, spirit and weather...... our complexion is getting darker, our spirit is indominitable and it was 57 Degrees t'other day, in February! Soggy food........Some of the greatest variety in The World in London to choose from.(Not all "British" though)...:)) Bizarre, unfounded sense of superiority.....Well we did produce the finest Legal Document of them all, The Magna Carta nearly 800 years ago in Runnymede and by the 16th Century we had the Finest Universities in the World (with The Sorbonne) and The "Mother Of All Parliaments and The finest Theatres in the World. The ratio of the things we invented to our population, compared to any other Nation was, at one time, the highest in The World, I would have thought, by some distance. Sarcasm....Nah! Satire, oddball, dark, dry, deadpan, black and a myriad of other types of humour can be found in Britain, generally acknowledged as the Home Of Comedy Worldwide through the latter part of the 20th Century. Apathy....Can't be bothered to reply to that... Dampness and moistness......Our Men CAN be "damp".Our Women, lets leave it there, shall we... Enjoyment of seeing others fail.....Schadenfreude! That word suggests other Nations posses the same trait....

Geezer approaches this youth who is Fishing in Burgess Park Lake. You won't catch anything there My Son, he, unhelpfully, advises. Yes, I will! says the Youth. I'll come back in 3 hours and I'll bet you an Even Fiver that you don't catch any fish! You're on, says the Youth. Geezer returns 3 hours later and to his astonishment he sees the Youth has caught a Big, Flat Fish. I've Won the bet, says the Youth...Pay Up! Geezer hands over a ?1. Whats this, a lousy ?1?:X says the Youth..It should be a ?5! Don't you realise you only get one-fifth of the odds for a Plaice Son!:)).......

Love your anecdotes and how true, in general, that last comment is/was. Seen the same syndrome all my life, with some exceptions in built-up areas.

I'd happily hunt and waste some of those s**gs in Prisons. Save the honest taxpayer about 100 large a year, as well. Not keen, at all, on killing any innocent Animal, I have to say. If I lived in the heart of the Country I might have a different perspective.

I have to say one of the joys of living where I do is that my local area is free to park for 2 hours, so all shopping is catered for. There are several parades of Shops (Sherwood Parade, The Green and THe Oval) where it is always free and I can, literally, park outside my local Co-op supermarket by the entrance. Would hate the hassle of Traffic Nazi's.
