That's so sad . Thank goodness things have improved a little now . Though I think being sectioned is never easy and always traumatic for all involved .

Is it possible to become a member of some sort of sports club that allows access to a local swimming pool ? I've looked at timetables for Peckham and Dulwich Fusion and the general swim periods don't work for me . I know Dulwich College have a pool but would prefer one within walking distance to me ?

Uncle Ben .Renata posted this on the Underhill Rd tree thread . Re: Friday 7th June: Tree lopping has stopped re: brow of Underhill Rd Posted by Renata Hamvas June 10, 10:46AM Dear all is it the avenue of poplars? See email below or other trees (horse chestnuts are mentioned above). The poplars are being removed due to disease/safety reasons. I had a surgery at ED Community Centre on Saturday, the next Peckham Rye one isn't until 27th June, so please pm me or email me about this, Renata Dear Councillors Edwards, Hamvas and Mills. I am writing to advise you of necessary works to an avenue of poplars in Camberwell New Cemetery. The Poplar trees in question have been surveyed by an external consultant as part of the strategy target for surveying all of our parks trees. Unfortunately the poplar trees in question were found to be in a poor condition that represented a high risk to the users of the cemetery and the park. The decision to remove these trees was not taken lightly and we fully appreciate the impact such a large number of trees can have when they are felled all together. The issues here are that a large number of the lower trunks are decayed. This means that there is little or no internal wood to support the weight of the tree canopies. The wood would have been decayed by a fungal pathogen leaving it in a pulpy condition over a number of years. The reason for removing all of the trees is due to fact that once we start to remove the heavily decayed ones we expose the others to wind loading that they would not have been used to and their rooting systems will not be as wind firm. This means they are highly susceptible to wind throw and could fail at any point. It is very difficult to quantify how long a decayed tree or a tree susceptible to wind throw could stand for and unfortunately because of that reason we are not in a position to retain them. The altered state of the wood due to the fungi means that there is no treatment available to reverse the process of wood decaying fungi. Because we recognise the impact this will have, we have already identified a planting scheme to replace these trees. This will consist of native mixed species to reduce the future risk of pathogen attack by having a mono culture avenue. We intend to under plant with woodland flora to create an additional interest. I would like to stress that this decision is one that is taken with regret. Kind regards. -------------------- Cllr Renata Hamvas Labour Councillor For Peckham Rye Ward [email protected] 02075255223 Ward Surgeries 1st Friday, 6.30-7.30pm Rye Hill Park TRA Hall, Peckham Rye SE15 2nd Saturday,10-11am East Dulwich Community Centre, Darrell Rd SE22 4th Thursday (3rd in December), 6.30-7.30pm Nunhead Library, Gordon Rd SE15 Peckhamryelabour.blogspot.com

Rye Lane is a very busy thoroughfare and I admire how the bus drivers cope with the narrow road and deliveries . But they do cope , I use this road every day ,and while the traffic can be slow it is moving . The shops do have to have deliveries . It's busy but it all seems to function .

I don't mean this unkindly ,but I think it's important to face up to the reality of the shortage of local secondary school places . This has always ( well ,last 3 decades ) been the case ,with the recent improvement seen at Harris Girls ED , Kingsdale and The Charter improving the situation . I can't see the situation changing ,there is a shortage/dearth of suitable sites ,and with all the secondary schools being their own admissions authorities and the majority controlled by sponsors there is very little hope of parents influencing choice of eg mixed sex style of any new schools . It is ,and has been for many years ,common for a lot of 11 year olds to travel long distances . I think it's a shame but it is doeable ,we have good transport links ,many travel in groups and most schools let them have a mobile phone so it as at least possible to stay in touch .

I love alley ways and old connecting footpaths . Makes me sad to see them closed off ,though I guess it's a security thing . You used to be able to walk down a long footpath in Court Lane and come out ( I think ) near Barclays Bank . The Court Lane end was at the west junction of Court Lane Gardens and Court Lane .

Right... and what do you make of this bit ? It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park at the place where you are being collected or dropped.
-
Not sure I understand your point stacey -lynn ? minder and any other blue badge users taking the holder to hospital for appointments etc remember that you can ( and many ,many do ) park on a double yellow line ,so long as you dont cause an obstruction .
-
And once more for luck the badge holder DOES NOT HAVE TO BE IN THE CAR if they are being picked up or dropped off .
-
minder ( and angelabbie ) the blue badge can be used for picking up or dropping off the holder The badge is for your use and benefit only. It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park at the place where you are being collected or dropped.

liliol you have all my sympathy . We've had this happen to us as well and it's distressing and very difficult to get help. I can't help thinking it would be helpful if Southwark were to publish guidelines as to what to do in this situation . Or if they do perhaps we could be directed to them . -

Have PM'd you Mens . -
Absolutely right fl0wer ,it's to get the work done more cheaply , presumably same reason for pollarding trees in full leaf last August as no other reason makes sense . No doubt if Southwark thought things through they could save even more money by adopting the approach you suggest . An approach which would have multiple benefits . But I'm not holding my breath .
-
" Officers and their contractors have stated the 12 trees are diseased " - yeah right ,lets hope their professional judgement has improved on that used to decide that lime trees be pollarded in August putting the trees under unnecessary stress and devastating all the insects etc dependent on the foliage . And as for the visual effect etc that we mere inhabitants of the borough might enjoy - well who cares ?
-
Ta very much guys .
-
not specific enough I'm afraid woodrot ,could be anywhere in HML from that description .
-
This is going to sound really stupid but for the life of me I cant figure out where in HML this is ? can someone put me out of my misery ?
