I'd guess Steven Gerrard (if he was talking about current players) but I'd not discount Carragher as he was also close to Houllier. Either way they are very bitter comments by Houllier about both Evans and Benitez - no need for that from a former Manager.

Michael Owen must be gutted he didn't do another 12 months at Newcastle as he'd now be a nailed on certainty to re-join Liverpool but as it is he burnt his bridges by going over to the dark side. Not sure Joe Cole would have come to Anfield if Rafa had been in charge - so fair play to the man who was apparently once a school PE teacher in SE22!

Great to see the Reds bringing in Joe Cole (pending medical) - and that now makes it 14 players currently on Liverpool's books that were at this World Cup, and another 8 who have previously played for the Reds (Heskey, Crouch, Mark Gonzalas, Alonso, Arbeloa, Kewell, Alou Diarra, Anelka). One more player past or present and that would represent an WC entire squad - 1/32nd of total WC representation.

DJKQ - Just thought Webb stopped play bit too often. Even when Alonso was put to ground by the Karate kid, Xavi who saw it all took ball and released winger down the flank and it was 3 on 2 but the Ref stopped play. Too many moments like that when he could have handed out the cards after seeing the game develop.

I think he went to Celtic as they are not required to pay compensation unlike an English club (as he is u-23). I suspect he will be there for one season then back in the PL.

Thought the Ref was poor last night and spoiled the game, whether because of his reputation from the Premiership I don't know but he had no authority on the game. It's a World Cup final and there will be late tackles early in the match but instead of using his discretion he continually nipped the flow of the game. Yet when it came to giving a second yellow card to Puyol or Robben he decided to use his discretion.

Simply put at the point the ball is passed to a player, he is offside if he was in the opposition half at the moment of the pass AND the pass is made by a team mate AND the pass is forward AND there are less than 2 opposing players between him and the goal line. Otherise the player is onside.

Very impressed with Germany, different style to Spain, but very positive in how the play football. From what I've seen last few weeks I think they'll beat Spain on Wednesday night. Although it is a simple concept, how many teams do you actually see making the right decisions of pass at the right time and to a player unmarked.. rather than dawdling and passing it down cul-de-sacs. They are a well oiled counter attacking team. I think for the neutral this has been a great World Cup.

That was a diabolical defensive performance from England - time and again they were torn apart with simple flicks. You can almost excuse the first two goals as players being nervous and caught up in the emotion but the final two goals are a real black mark against this regime. Glen Johnson should have flattened the forward with a challenge (and taken a yellow card for the team) rather than attempting a girly toe poke and as for Gareth Barry on the fourth goal he should never play for England again.
