  1. Worst pie I ever had was running back from Meadow Lane to Nottingham train station when I was starving and grabbing a curry pie from a newsagent - easily the vilest pie I have bitten into and spat out! As for Greatest XI - I thought we were talking Premiership otherwise where the feck is Pele!!!
  2. Ok to settle things down, I'm going to make a pledge that I will not make any more comments related to Liverpool, Arsenal or Man United until at the earliest next Monday if: - 1) I am not compelled to respond to any unfounded comments on the above, particularly in regard boasting 2) If Mockney is able to start making headway on the Dulwich Hamlets pre-season drinks :))

  4. Yeah right.. and Sky Sports will dedicate their March / April run in to those chasing UEFA Cup spots ;-) It's not about the Big 4, otherwise we'd be talking a hell of a lot more about Chelsea... as I've said before I quite like hearing from West Ham and Spurs fans as after all they're pretty big clubs as well.. but we can only be driven by the discussion. I'm open to discussing other clubs players. BTW, yes read about John Hartson and it don't look good does it for the former Wales, Luton, Arsenal, West Ham, Celtic man but we can only hope he recovers from his cancer which has spread to his brain.
  5. No United myth is too big for this Liverpool fan to chop down! Upturned collars and kung fu tackles will not cloud my judgement - United icon, but world class? Ya 'aving a laugh! What exactly did Eric Cantona do... oh I know he sold lots of French flags outside Old Trafford before Argentina came into fashion. Ah that's right he trained in the afternoon and that is what inspired the United youth to practice their football rather than shoot pool with a beer.. Legend! Of course I've been unfair on Cantona, he was a top player, but what do you expect when you treat a genuine footballing legend like Henry as if he was a two bit player.
  6. Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > matt. Its more about the goals in important games > than the number of goals scored and also the goals > scored when really needed. I dont remember that > many. What i remember is hats of goals against > lesser opposition. Well they don't come much more important than games against Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea - he scored 24 Premiership goals against those three. Whereas Cantona only ever scored one League goal against Liverpool (and that a penalty). Red Devil wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Quite simply Eric changed the culture of the club from nearly > men into the professional winning mentality we have today, and > no amount of goals/assists/appearances can equate with that. Ah right!!! So we're getting there now, we're talking about who was the most iconic rather than merits as a footballer... hmmmmm interesting. Well if you're going to nit pick over supposed flaws in Henry (which I don't agree with btw and I'm a neutral in regard Henry) then where the hell do we start with Cantona!? Cantona's legacy, rightly or wrongly, is his cowardly attack on a loud mouth Palace fan, half his size, in the family stand at Selhurst Park.
  7. Possibly a porter who has visions of grandeur as it seems unlikely that someone of such high esteem would volunteer such high profile information.. of course it may have been the real Doctor Garden living out his fantasy... perhaps time to check the storyline in your latest copy of the Radio Times!?
  8. First drinks I went to was at the Phoenix and I was so close to introducing myself to a table full of chavs... but thankfully I recognised someone on the other table and so saved being thrown out of the window. Next one is at the Plough and because it'll be a good turn out I'd say just head for the largest group.
  9. Well I'm glad the Saints have been saved - although I think they missed a trick moving out of the Dell as that was one hell of a delapidated stadium that must have been worth a lot more points for survival than filling hospitality boxes at St Mary's.
  10. What an excellent resistance by Collingwood and the England lower order. Each ball Monty faced was heart in the mouth time but somehow he blocked and shielded his wicket. It almost felt like a win and the Aussies will be gutted.
  11. >> Davy mentions that he did not reproduce at international level. 48 goals for France ain't bad is it!? >> Also he was a failure in Italy, being sold by Juventus after scoring just >> 3 goals in a season. That was half a season, 20 games when he was 20/21 yrs old on leaving France. >> I have to say Matt, I don't know what his record is against MU, I do >> remember the wonder goal he once scroed but apart from that don't know >> whether you are right in saying he had a good record against MU, He scored "eight goals in 14 Premier League games" for Arsenal against Man U. Not sure of Cup record. Cantona 64 goals in 144 league games for United - Henry 174 goals in 254 league games for Arsenal, and we all know Henry made as many assists as goals whilst does anyone remember Cantona passing more than a dirty look to Andy Cole? ;-) I saw both Cantona and Henry up against Liverpool in the flesh many times and believe me Henry was scary home and away, whereas Cantona was a key player against lesser teams he never dictated play in the same manner against quality sides. Hence why his European record was abysmal. Yes Henry may be past his best now, but in his pomp at Arsenal I'd say he was an unstoppable as Messi is now for Barcelona.
  12. I'm just very surprised Mick with your comments about Henry, particularly that you'd rather Cantona than Henry. I think we all recognise that both were top players - but I'd not expect even a diehard United fan to disagree with Henry being number 1. I'm not sure what you mean either about not delivering when the chips were down, as he had a fantastic record against United, and often turned games for Arsenal against them and also likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool. Yes he may be a cog in the Barcelona team but to be a cog in the Barcelona team especially upfront you need to be pretty damn good. From what I remember of Cantona the only thing he ever did in European competition was have a Turkish policeman put a baton across his head in the tunnel at Galatasaray.
  13. I'm simply staggered by this revision of history, I'm gonna have to sit down and catch my breath I'm worn out from laughing... will comment later
  14. Here you go, problem solved, the Japanese have invented a scanner to measure that staff are smiling enough as it will "measure the smile's curvature to ensure it is broad enough." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8146078.stm
  15. How many League Titles have Torres and Gerrard won is such a weak argument... nevertheless how many European titles did Cantona win again!?... @...... @....... SP, I very much doubt Refs were actually being bunged money by United - but what may prove to be more significant than Ronaldo leaving is the retirement this summer of both Mike Riley and Steve Bennett (hallajuah!!). Red devil, you may wish to add some beef to the bones of your flimsy remarks, but can you elborate on what you mean by the team that twice taught you a lesson in how to play football last season is shit!?
  16. Shearer will do what's best for him.. If I were Newcastle I'd bring back Joe Kinnear - the Championship trenches need an old campaigner at the helm
  17. Who said Cantona wasn't a great player for United? I simply said he was not fit to lace the boots of Henry, much like a lot of other so called world class players pronounced to us by the media. United have had a few world class players under Ferguson but Eric Cantona was most certainly not one of them! Cantona might have been one of the best players in the Premiership during his time in England but just because this was during the period of Carlton Palmer, Geoff Thomas, Nigel Clough and Fash the Bash does not mean he was on a par with Stanley Matthews either. Anyway, I was just picking up on the remarks that Henry was a 'sunshine player' who'd not quite 'made the grade'. This is not anti-United bashing either - it's merely a pre-season warm up ;-)
  18. Cantona was a disgrace who was lucky not have been banged up in prison - but then I'd expect a Man U fan to demand a knighthood! The Cantona myth is not something I buy into just because he played for United. I'd even say Ronaldo was a better footballer when you cut through all that nonsensical poetry crap he came up with about the seagulls which seems to have added to the legend, LOL. You cannot compare world class players like Torres and Gerrard with a player who couldn't even get into the French international team at a time when they were worse than England.
  19. Don't think they're any less smiley or friendly than other pubs in East Dulwich.. best way to make barstaff smile more is just give 'em a pay rise! Then happy punters will further fill the tils!
  20. I'm guessing the Aussies will declare at Tea - and play the afternoon session like 20/20 so they have a chance to bowl out England in 4 sessions. Might have watched some of it but want to see the Currie Cup this afternoon.
  21. I rented a van in 2006 from Thrifty near Vauxhall and was a good price - you might also try Enterprise in Lewisham
  22. Few years back got a taxi in the early hours in Maida Vale and there were 3 of us and before I could open my mouth - the other two said Deptford and Peckham, 'sorry lads just finishing for the night'.. waited another 30 minutes, this time I said 'East Dulwich - goose green end' then when safely on our way told the cabbie 'via Deptford and Peckham'.. haha he did not like the sudden detour!
  23. You serious Mick? Henry is a great player - best to ever grace the Premiership by a country mile. Cantona is not fit to lace his boots. We'll have to see about Glen Johnson, not sure he's that good defensively but then I might be overly critical of his time at Chelsea. The key thing at Liverpool will be his defending as he'll soon have to toe the line about not charging forward.
  24. Blinking eck!! What is worse being famous or looking like someone famous!!
  25. I rented a van a few years back and something to take into consideration is you have no rear mirror (no back or rear side windows) - which may sound like no big deal but when you're at the mercy of just your wing mirrors you really miss being in a car for knowing the traffic behind you.
