  1. Nah I think AFN is referring to Harriott Harman being next Home Secretary. Gordon Brown is still the right person in charge for Labour - assuming they want to win the next General Election which they should do when you consider the Tories. The way David Cameron has ruthlessly dealt with his own colleagues over expenses suggests he'd not think twice about savaging things like the NHS and Education. Who would you trust Brown or Cameron?
  2. Official name used to be British Isles, but then media nicknamed them the British Lions, so now for political reasons since 2001 they have been officially rebranded the British & Irish Lions. That is fair enough to recognise Ireland's contribution but Lions is so synonymous with English sport it still doesn't sound right. I'd settle for Colonial Dragons ;-)
  3. It's a shame that the provinces/super14 teams they play are stripped of players in the Springboks squad as the novelty of the rout will soon wear thin.
  4. Yes that would make sense the new money bag owners (assuming they've now taken control) would obviously want someone in charge who can deliver moderate success - and of course Harry Redknapp has a proven track record at Fratton Park and would almost certainly walk out on Spurs for the right price. I'd say it's more of a rumour, brace yourself for his imminent return!
  5. UEFA are able to control Champions League squads (both squad size and minimum home grown players) - that same model would be good for the domestic game. Of course this won't stop the big boys having the best players in the world, but it should stop a build up of quality surplus which are being denied to 'lesser' clubs. If and when we have a restriction of squad then the division between big 4 and the rest should be narrowed. With any long term injuries squads could only be reinforced with home grown / home nation u18 players - so players of tomorrow from this country can still come through.
  6. Well England tried that with McClaren and look what happened. I think you want the best talent for the job - people want success today. Was the success of France in 1998 and 2000 because of this system or in spite of it? You could argue since 2000 France have underperformed with this promotion from within when you consider they've had some truly world class players in their team like Zidane and Henry. Managers like Capello and Hiddink are far better being parachuted in than allowing likes of McClaren or Stuart Pearce to work their way through the system. If Spain can get away with it why can't they do the same in the Premiership, stop Managers moving mid-season between Clubs. How much did that bugger up Pompey last season when Harry Redknapp was allowed to down tools and join Spurs?
  7. The squads will inevitably suffer from injuries, but the call for replacements should be limited to u18 players of the club's home nation. That way squad restrictions would enable more home grown youths to break through - rather than likes of Bolton streaming in van loads of continental mercenaries every summer.
  8. I mentioned my thoughts on squad restrictions recently and no one was interested. A subject ignored and shoved under the carpet as not being important. Instead it seems I have stoked the football intelligentsia of East Dulwich with an honest, clean joke about changing colours from Argentina to England! At this point I should say Liverpool were guilty of singing another team's name, back in '92 the Kop went balmy singing 'Leeds, Leeds, Leeds!' ... after Liverpool beat Man U to give Leeds the title. Also on another occasion the old Kop roared mid-game on hearing latest score from Yorkshire, 'Wednesday three, United two - Hallelujah!'

Yes I've read it, I was wrong, I'll hang my head in shame :-$ Perhaps it was a two way deal between MTV and Eminem that to promote his new album with a stage performance he also had to sacrifice his dignity for the Cohen stunt?

  12. Considering everything now get's reported on the EDF the biggest crimes recently seem to have been a woman filling her car with unwanted clothes left outside a charity shop, somerfields promotion rip offs, and the odd pub selling flat beer.. not sure it merits a feature on Crimewatch UK just yet
  13. One for the United fans to sing along to...
  14. They'll be able to attract better players now that Barry has signed and I think we'll see a snowball effect that by August they will be able to entice someone like Kaka (who incidentally has reportedly just signed to Madrid for ?56m - cue photos of Ronaldo crying at swimming pool).
  15. England and the Lions both play on Saturday and Wednesday without any overlap. Saturday ======== 2pm Cheetahs v British & Irish Lions 4pm Kazakhstan v England Wednesday ========= 6.10pm Sharks v British & Irish Lions 8.15pm England v Andorra

Before we can answer that, what kind of Home Secretary do we deserve?
  17. By the time City have finished this summer Barry will be surplus to requirements.
  18. >> Of course I'd rather see England beat Spain Anna - you serious? We got 5 players in the Spanish squad and 1 in the England set-up. With that ratio I want Spain to batter England everytime, but then again I'm not English I'm...
  19. The problem is that the Big 4 clubs each pretty much have 20 internationals on duty for 2 weeks at a time on about 4 occasions each season. We get the players back from Internationals sometimes only 36 hours before a key game. Is not about not liking England, it's about not liking the Club season broken up by International football. World Cups, European Championships are during the post-season and as you say it's great but why the hell do England, Spain, France etc have to play so many pointless matches to qualify. I'd prefer a return to smaller more competitive groups of 5 teams, 4 internationals per season which are played midweek between club fixtures. Why should England get 7 days to prepare for a game when a Club often only gets 48 hours..
  20. Messi is the best since Maradona (perhaps since Pele?), a player without ego, honest and who loves playing football.
  21. He'd already been up on stage to perform... i.e. promoting his new album... Yes read that line again! If he was greedy for more promotion with Cohen then it was a bit lame to say the least. If he was in on the act you'd have seen punches thrown, throttling of Cohen.. or maybe you think Eminem got stage fright? If anything the whole sorry incident will turn people away from buying his new album, so why do it?
  22. Eminem had already performed on stage earlier in the MTV awards so I fail to see what motive he'd have in agreeing to the act? Has Cohen ever performed an act where he has had co-operation from the victim in advance? What Cohen did was stage managed, and no one has said differently, but just because Eminem's minders didn't turn out to be the stereotypical lunatics and start throwing their fists about and stab Cohen in the buttocks, does not mean that bad boy Eminem was an eager participant.
  23. I once spoke to a Tamil who aired a few gripes, one of which was that in the north of Sri Lanka where the Tamil's are mostly situated the education examination system is more difficult to be successful than in the south. He said this ensured Tamil's found it more difficult to break into the professions as their grades would be inferior to the Sinhalese. Having said that the only way I can see them attracting the attention of this government is to actually protest outside of the capital so that MPs have the opportunity to visit them and claim some fresh expenses.
  24. I don't think Eminem was aparty to the stage managed stunt, it made him look a right tit and would only harm his image... having said that was it as bad as wearing a tea cosy on the Jonathan Ross show!?
