  1. Seeing as no NEW question has been asked... During the 1980s, West Ham scored 8 goals past Newcastle in one League game at Upton Park - who was the Newcastle goalkeeper that night who is also in the records as having played for England but NOT as a goalkeeper?
  2. That's harsh, I'd hardly say Jacqui Smith was a bombshell
  3. Steve Bennett is a tw*t
  4. Mark Hughes got to grips with a Swindon Town fan who was in the front row of the stand. Eric Cantona did his cowardly kung-fu impression on a guy at Crystal Palace. As for Ince he also charged into the crowd at Selhurst Park. Yes Jamie Carragher was also a muppet throwing a coin into the crowd at Highbury, just like Drogba recently, it is totally unacceptable.
  5. All before my time but weren't all teams blessed with thugs during this era? Is this the same reason people have a dislike for Man United - as who'll ever forget the mid-nineties United team when you had likes of Mark Hughes, Paul Ince and Eric Cantona physically confronting supporters in the crowd never mind leave stud marks all over the opposition - or Peter Schemichal with his less than cordial race relations with Ian Wright. Anyway, another point about Revie, did he really bribe officials during his time at Leeds as some have suggested? I find that odd considering they lost more finals than they won, as surely that is the time to bribe a ref, no?
  6. During the 10 seasons Revie managed Leeds United in the top flight (1964 to 1974), Leeds United won 7 major trophies and were Runners-up 10 times. That is pretty hot stuff - no other Manager gets anywhere near that record. If only winning counts, then tell me another Manager during this period who won more major trophies than Revie during this time frame? Don Revie was a great manager whether you liked his methods or not the record books are pretty convincing. This was at a time when money was more evenly spread as can be seen by the fact that during this 10 year period, 7 different clubs won the Championship.
  7. I think all 4 English teams have extremely tough Champions League matches in 2 weeks time. I have to admit that if Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea all get knocked out then I will be delighted. If I had to put money one of the 4 reaching the QF, then it would be Chelsea beating Juventus.
  8. I'm boycotting the FA Cup all together.

When you discount Estate Agents / Restaurants / Pubs as not being Shops - plus it's ALL male staff, it sort of does point the finger!?!

Felicity - why don't you request that the Administrator disables his username -- and then cross-references the IP address he uses, out of hours, from being able to access this Forum? I am assuming he is making contact via PMs - if it's also by mobile then add him to your mobile block list.
  11. Anything is possible in a Final with nerves and strokes of luck, but to beat them over 2 legs is going to be nigh on impossible. Having said that, the Premiership team best equipped to beat Barcelona over 2 legs is probably Liverpool with their conservative style of play - but even then Barcelona could easily sweep Liverpool aside.
  12. From reading all the posts, and some cross referencing, it does sound like there is a problem unless of course it is an orchestrated attempt by some newly formed south London feminist group to take the high ground. Which seems highly unlikely. I don't think the Police will be too interested when you consider 'the man with the suitcase' is still at large. Of course for us guys, the natural instinct is to assume this 'lothario' is innocent as it gives the gentlemen of East Dulwich a bad name. However, imagine if these 'lotharios' batted for both sides, would we then be so quick to palm it all off as crap?
  13. I like Heskey and I wish Rafa had signed him during the transfer window. The complaint against Heskey is more the resultant football that comes by having him in the team.
  14. Nah I don't go along with that theory Piers, look at the pass Alonso made last night for David Villa, or the goals scored for Brazil by Elano and Robinho. It's a bit like Craig Burley, on Setanta Sports, blaming Liverpool's zonal marking for conceding goals without addressing why all the other teams in the league who man mark don't keep clean sheets every week.. What worries me about Capello, btw I'm very happy to see England lose, is why are the likes of Heskey, Crouch and Carlton Cole getting minutes on the pitch ahead of players like Michael Owen (when fit)? The one thing which I find very odd is how on earth David James is England's number 1... extraodinary! We all know David James still switches off in games, and the higher the pressure the more likely he'll fumble the ball. Capello may get England to the World Cup final or semi final... but with David James in goal it's an accident waiting to happen! I'll never forget how David James single handedly cost Liverpool the title in 1996/97 season and then came out with a bag of excuses regarding his Nintendo was to blame... hopeless!
  15. Interesting point about Torres, but I think that's a little to do with lack of confidence compared with last season, him snatching at chances.
  16. Will a bidding war now break out between the News Of The World and the Daily Mail to get the exclusives on the Lordship Lane Kennel club ;-) - how many shops are operating as fronts for afternoon pursuits whilst 'late lunch' is dangled over the door. It's an eye opener if you ever walk down Lordship Lane during a week day, the number of young mums pushing their prams up and down Lordship Lane without a shopping bag in sight... now it all starts to make sense! ;-) I've always wanted to have my own shop - but had always been held back by what to sell, now I know it's gonna be me!! And yes I will be imposing safeguards starting with a 2 foot wide door entrance ;-) Sorry if anyone finds any of that offensive, it just sort of rolled off the keyboard :-$ oops...
  17. England were very poor. As industrious as they were in Berlin, tonight they were yet again exposed in midfield when playing a quality team ... no ideas, no composure, no technique and no control. Why is it every England Manager packs the central midfield with players who are just looking to make a Hollywood pass or bone crunching tackle? England need someone in the centre of midfield who can keep it ticking over with little one twos, dictate play, and juggle the ball under pressure. For me the one player who has the potential to this job, when fit, is Joe Cole. If Cole was Italian, Spanish, Argentine, Brazilian or Dutch I'm pretty sure they'd make him the heart beat of the midfield rather than wasting him on the flank. Until the engine room is sorted out (if ever), England will never be able to compete in a tournament. They might get the occasional one off win against big boys like Argentina (2002) or Holland (1996) but to sustain that in the knockout stages hard work and luck is not enough as eventually they will get kicked out by a team that matches England's strengths but also knows how to play football... which is usually how England get knocked out in a quarter final.
  18. Oooops neither did I... I even took one of the EDF photographer myself, using his camera, and I somehow cut the top of his head off (not literally I should add)...
  19. >> Some may attack me for this, but Kenny Dalgish falls in to the same category as far as I'm concerned. Not sure about that Keef, seems a bit harsh. He won the double in his first season (85/86) following Hysel which was no small feat. His biggest legacy as a Manager, on the field, was putting together the 87/88 attacking vintage of John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, John Aldridge, Ray Houghton. Remember this was the first season without Ian Rush - and many pundits had predicted Liverpool's downfall and was the catalyst for Evertonians street parties that summer. That Liverpool vintage just missed out on the double by a whisker 3 consecutive seasons 87/88 to 89/90 - and most probably would have picked up a few more European Cups. Probably the best team in the history of English football. I had the pleasure of seeing that team a number of times during the 87/88 season - and I remember my first glimpse of John Barnes as Liverpool destroyed top of the table QPR 4-0 at Anfield with a masterclass in football led by the unstoppable John Barnes. What a team! Of course I wouldn't bracket Dalglish alongside the very best which in my opinion (in England) are Bob Paisley, Herbert Chapman, Bill Shankly, Don Revie, Arsene Wenger and Matt Busby.... and grudgingly Alex Ferguson..
  20. ..and John Barnes wonders why no one will offer him a a job as a Manager... bit like why Roy Evans has never been offered a Manager's job since he was eased out of the door at Anfield, back in 1998, by Gerard Houllier. Some ex-players are simply never going to make it as a Manager - did anyway ever seriously think Tony Adams would return to Arsenal to take over from Wenger?
  21. I once read that the food your body is best equipped to handle is what you were raised on as a kid. It was sort of saying that someone who had a healthy upbringing is more likely to suffer if in later life they start eating junk - whereas it would not have the same effect on someone raised on pizzas, chips and other junk if they continued on that path of junk. Found it quite surprising but not sure if anyone agrees or have read similar - and no it was not in a McDonalds pamplet ;-)
  22. Good luck to Joe Kinnear who is having a heart bypass surgery on Friday, 'earlier this month Kinnear delayed signing a contract extension'.
  23. I did say "relatively speaking" ;-)
  24. Wikipedia is great :) "Villa's form improved substantially following O'Neill's appointment. They had the longest unbeaten start of any Premiership side in 2006-07 (9 games), not losing a league game until 28 October." "The 2007-08 season was a fantastic season for O'Neill and Aston Villa" But besides that I guess it also depends on who was the previous governor.. which at Villa was the much maligned David O'Leary!
  25. I'm not sure continuity breeds success, I think it's more like success breeds continuity. The managers mentioned Wenger, Moyes and O'Neill have relatively speaking had instant success on arrival and continued it - and that is why unlike other managers, such as Glenn Roeder, Bruce Rioch, Hoddle, Pardew, Scolari, Adams who had the polar opposite effect, they have not been sacked. We can talk about Ferguson being given time to win his first trophy which I think was three and half years (1990) but back in the late eighties failing managers were given more time than today.
